    Rabbits can be just as loving, affectionate, and loyal as a dog. It all depends on how much time you are willing to invest in gaining their trust and to form a bond with them. Once they bond to you, you are their special human and adore you and crave your attention and love. They are very routine animals as well so once you do something they will remember and expect it the same way every day. They are just such a unique and special pet that I have always enjoyed having. I will never go back to a dog. I love my bunbuns!

      TBF to the lady that said this rabbits are seen differently over in Australia. They’re seen more as dangerous pests due to their infestation severely damaging the ecology over there. It’s actually illegal to own a rabbit as a pet in Queensland so that could be why it was so weird to her.

      That is so true. I had a budgie, and being a first time bird owner I picked up a book at the store explaining how to care for them. It said you can teach them to speak, but don't expect them to be able to learn more than a few simple words. He spoke in full sentences and had an amazing vocabulary that could match any parrot. I also decided to save a feeder mouse and keep him as a pet. Again, I did my research to better understand him. Apparently because they are not hand raised it said they could never be completely tamed, and would never allow you to pet them. The little guy I have now nearly falls asleep sitting in my hand while I scratch his head. And, I can assure you each and everyone one of them has had their own very unique personality. I never believe what I read anymore or put any limitations on what they can learn. The only thing that limits an animals potential is the lack of effort made by the person who adopts them to really understand them.

      I think the contrast is what makes makes Bugs so good as a 'rabbit'. But there is some truth in how ornery rabbits can be, they tend to be nuisance animals for farmers and some of the public and they're tricksy to catch. That might have lead them to his tricksy behaviors, but his personality definitely seems to be a fun "big contrast" with rabbits. Rabbits are prey and easily scared, Bugs is this bigger-than-life unafraid disposition that makes us root for him and feel satisfied when we see the success of his tricky behaviors.
      I would guess he was designed alongside Elmer the hunter, because it's also fun to laugh at 'idiot' men who get outsmarted by a rabbit.

    It's a bit sad that this is something so ''out of the ordinary''. I just see a normal rabbit over there. Rabbits do not belong in a cage; if you put your dog or cat in a cage all day it would do nothing either, they'll be depressed and angry. Rabbits need to free roam, and can be easily trained to do their needs in a sandbox like cats. Of course they can also be friendly and playful, and are capable of learning tricks and go on walks in their own way. The idea of rabbit = cage is so out of date! They are also very sociable animals so if you treat them well they'll bond with you, they do not do very well alone, so if you don't have enough time for it you should get two buns.

    I have two twin Netherland dwarf buns, each is the size of my foot. One is snow white with blue eyes, and the other is mink coloured. Absolutely stunning. They are the best, most beautiful, breathtaking, and fun creatures on earth, bar none. I'd never ever want a dog or cat after having lived with these two angels. No cage, no pen, no dumping them in the backyard. They live in my house, eat blueberries, bananas, apples, and herbs to their hearts' desire, and every second of the day I fall in love with them all over again. God bless and protect all bunnies, best blessing of God ever.

    • @Bork_Cruk
      @Bork_Cruk Před 3 lety +21

      Yeah, we should try and turn animals into something that benefits us, instead of letting them be themselves. Rabbits are already paying a terrible price for such attitudes, lop eared rabbits like smudge are extremely prone to ear infections and dental issues.

    • @mw-cy1zf
      @mw-cy1zf Před 3 lety +1

      @@Bork_Cruk and the way loads of them are kept is so unnatural just because it fits our lifestyle better (sterile homes, no digging, single buns, only pellets and hay...) :(

    • @Bork_Cruk
      @Bork_Cruk Před 3 lety +2

      @mari Any time you are trying to select for particular traits, you are narrowing the gene pool. Lops suffer because they have lop ears, which is an inherent health issue. As are shorter faces. Of course you take a "better" approach to breeding. But as you say, the best thing would be to breed to an unrelated rabbit. What rabbit would be most unrelated? One of a totally different breed. That would broaden the gene pool, whereas trying to maintain particular traits inherently narrows it.
      It should be enough of a privilege to care for a rabbit and give it love, regardless of how cuddly, cute, obedient, etc. it is. Animals should not be consumer products.

    • @Bork_Cruk
      @Bork_Cruk Před 3 lety +2

      @@mw-cy1zf Correct. Unfortunately it is better for rabbit health to be kept inside because in many countries now introduced diseases that are carried by mosquitoes and other vectors can kill them. Rabbits can live happily indoors, but it's a lot more work to provide them with an adequate environment where they can dig and chew and run. And as you say, they should have a rabbit companion! Some rabbits are better alone (just won't bond with any other rabbits), but most are much happier when bonded.
      I think hay is good, pellets are unnecessary unless the rabbit is losing weight. And fresh grass is superior to the leafy greens that humans eat.
