  • In Todays video we dive into the differences between the very controversial debate on which Toyota Big Brake Caliper is better. In my opinion both are great options over the stock OEM floating caliper but what it really clamps down to is which ones suites your needs more?

    Slotted disks are not necessarily meant to cool better, they are meant to transfer brake dust more efficiently and degrade your brake pad more evenly. The “wiping” improves brake bite by removing the brake dust. But awesome video man!

      I didn't even think of that, thanks for sharing the knowledge!

    Which caliper is convenient to fit more wheel options? Like which 1 is more bulkier?

    • @AustinKamuela
      @AustinKamuela  Před 4 měsíci

      The Supra TT caliper is slightly bulkier than the LS400, the minimum wheel spec is a 17 inch for the LS400 and the minimum wheel spec for a Supra TT is a 18 inch

    How mutch more do these stick out than stock ? i'd like to do this upgrade on GS430 but not sure if my wheel will fit can't use spacers cause wheel is coing to rub on the fender arc distance from the stock caliper to the wheel spokes is around 10mm

      As long as the wheels are bigger than 17's they will be able to clear. Also just remember that for GS chassis, you need to install the center adjustment to install these calipers correctly. I know for a fact that Megan racing sells some for the GS and IS300 platforms

      @@AustinKamuelaI don't want to keep correcting you 😂 But "Anything" over 17 will not necessarily fit. Especially with TT calipers. Spoke design, backspacing pad, and offest need to all be considered... And on the GS300 the Supra TT calipers only need the dust shield cut, with the LS400 calipers you'll need roll center adjusters.

    Hey how have or did the ebay tt calipers hold up so far?

    • @AustinKamuela
      @AustinKamuela  Před 5 měsíci

      Mine aren't ebay calipers, I got them from Rockauto and they haven't failed me so far

    USDM Stock MKIV Supra TT came with 17" wheels from the factory... not sure who told you that you need 18" wheels to run those brake calipers.

    • @AustinKamuela
      @AustinKamuela  Před 3 měsíci

      I am personally running 18" wheels and the clearance is minimal....... The USDM stock Supra TT wheels are spec'd for the bigger calipers but other 17" wheels that aren't spec'd for the Supra might not fit. Thanks for the input though!

    • @shadyshinichi2JZ
      @shadyshinichi2JZ Před 3 měsíci

      I believe that can be said for most wheels, even 19" and up. But as far as the wheel diameter with respect to the barrel, 17" will clear.
      The face or disc of the wheel needs to be able to accommodate the larger caliper. I.E. my custom Work wheels for my 98 Supra Turbo, I went with R-Disc to ensure clearance of the caliper.

      I've had my 1998 Supra Turbo since 2006 which had the OEM 17" and now 2 sets of 18" wheels and my girlfriend has a 1998 NA Supra since 2019 with 16" wheels but has custom 18" wheels waiting with TT powdercoated calipers on standby.

    What rims are you running to clear the callipers

    • @AustinKamuela
      @AustinKamuela  Před 4 měsíci

      I am running 2012 Lexus IS300 wheels, they are 18 x 8.5 if I'm not mistaken and the calipers clear ever so tightly but I have had no problems with my wheel fitment so far

    As far as the calipers go they’re honestly the same it doesn’t matter what they are meant for. 4pot is 4pot regardless 😂

      @Justjustin_z Před měsícem

      @@AustinKamuela the only difference between the two is a weight difference the Supra forum covers this making the ls400 better overall. Also the price difference is crazy between the two sets.

    • @AustinKamuela
      @AustinKamuela  Před měsícem

      @@Justjustin_z weight is definitely not the only difference between the two, I have experienced the stopping power of both, in my personal SC with the Supra brakes and a friends SC who has the LS400 brakes. A forum is great to get the idea of overall performance but experiencing the stopping power of both in a hands on realistic sense. Theres no doubt the Supra caliper is better but everyone has different opinons. Also the price of both Supra and LS400 remanufactered calipers are extremely similiar but if you try to source them brand new, thats where the price difference vastly changes

      @@AustinKamuela Yupp yall are driving sc300s 🤷🏽‍♂️ not actual supras. Everything plays a factor in stopping power. Fluid, SS braided lines, and bleeding them but at the end of the day they are both 4 pot brakes 🤦🏽‍♂️. It’s just an opinion at this point driver feel and butt dynos don’t mean much at the end of the day.
