I came for the dance moves I've seen on TikTok, but that lyric had me in a chokehold for the rest of the song. I'm going to go watch this right now.

My teacher’s would walk in to class and announce to all that “they weep for the future, because you are it” & “I will see you all soon selling pencils in the street” and the best was in HS, my friend and I were 2 of 3 latinos in the whole school and one teacher would refer to us as “the Menendez Brothers”.
The soundtrack was very poignant. I work with children who have lackluster parents, and these songs struck a chord.
I don’t care if you hate this movie. I have four sons under ten and let me tell you, we can barely get out the door for school without an absolute meltdown. The fact that they were able to choreograph this so perfectly with young children is absolutely astounding to watch.

I literally don't know how ANYONE can dislike this movie. This damn thing was FIRE! I listen to the soundtrack often but my son LOVES when this plays in the car. We be jammin'. The movie was amazing and I wish more people would love it like the original. It blew away all my expectations. They put in the work for this one and deserve so much more love. I'm glad this was made
The only thing I dislike about this movie is how hateble they made Trunchbull, Pam Ferris' version was better imo

I'm not saying this is a bad movie, obviously everyone is very talented, all the choreography looks neat. However people in latin america hated this version haha, Matilda is one of those movies a lot of families saw on tv on sundays while eating at grandma house. To me is very nostalgic and the original had also an amazing dub made by some of the most beloved dub artists of Mexico. When Netflix change the whole concept and adapt the musical instead of the classic. Many people disliked the movie immediatly.
Also at least in México musicals are not a very popular genre.
Like i said i'm not saying is a bad movie just for reasons beyond this film a lot of people in latin america hate it.

@@jackofhearts5542Oh my god same!! Haven't seen it, but as there were so much focus on the sad looking girl, I wondered if it was her.
You can tell these kids are LOVING what they do. So often with child actors you can sort of feel that they're not into it, its just something their parents want them to do or that the director coaxed the best they could to get the performance. This whole musical is a perfect example of kids who WANT TO be there and love it. They're so clearly having so much fun and its so obvious that this movie was shot in a way that was fun for them, that made them comfortable and let them play.
I love how instead of singing with the other children, Matilda just has this smug look on her face like “heck yeah I just did that”
Seeing everyone else singing and finally being free was enough of the reward for her.
I love the detail that Hortensia seems to be leading the rebellion for the older kids while Bruce leads it for the younger kids. You can also tell she’s more rebellious from the beginning because of the beret (she’s the only person in Cruchem Hall to wear a hat that isn’t the school uniform), not to mention the pins on her dress AND the mismatched socks. Seems like she’s been plotting a rebellion for a while and she’s finally gotten the chance to co-lead one! The costume designers definitely knew what they were doing for Hortensia!
The pins on her dress are also super reminescent of military badges giving her a veteran feel.
Just my theory, but I think the Trunchbull was a little intimidated by Hortensia. Like any bully, Trunchbull picked on the smallest and weakest kids. She just never counted on Matilda.
I also like the fact that her beret is bright red- a contrast from the uniforms gray and neutral tones!
Like she was doing these little bits of rebellion before but was unable to lead the entire school until Matilda arrived. Probably without much support, she was probably like a shell shocked weary vet still in the fight but desensitized to it. Matilda's anger was new and fresh and just what she and the other students and teachers needed to push them.

0:25 so much emotion in that shot. Not a single word yet she portrayed joy,thrill,sorrow. Wow.
That part made me sob, you can tell the emotion in Bruce’s voice singing about the chokey and him doubting himself made Matilda feel things too😭 she feels sorry for them.
Man, that long take from 1:19 to 1:39 is incredible.

Horsentia is now a reformed person. That she's no longer a bully anymore because of Agatha Trunchbull's torment and rules.
The addition of the lines “You mighta' thought we were weak but we're strong, you mighta' thought we would break, but you're wrong, because you finally pushed us too far” is absolute genius and should be added into the stage musical. I, for one, loved all of the changes in the film version.

That first hallway shot, man. That is HARD to get right. If you look really closely you can see how much work went into creating the effect of Bruce moving forward down that middle aisle. The camera and the kids would have had to be perfectly in sync. All of it was amazing, but the organization and precision that it took to make that shot work is just out of this world.
the synchronization at 2:00 is simply crazy. i played it several times and they are all dead on.
I love the touch of the old teachers at 2:18 celebrating as well. They look so happy it warms my heart.
Instead of try to stop them they smile and suport them let them enjoying his freedom is so adorable
I swear the other teachers in Matilda barely show up and for being a school you don’t see them. I say this as you cannot find one in the original movie. Not important plot wise but just weird

I like that you actually see them. We don't see other teachers at Crunchem Hall/Big Friendly School very often. In the book, there's a young male teacher who becomes Headmaster but he's never been in any other variation. Actually, I always prefer Miss Honey becoming the headmistress because she takes a more proactive role in making the school pleasant, happy, and Trunchbull free.
The way the girl in the red beret looks so joyous when dancing is so heartwarming for me, these kids are amazing actors!
That's why I like the Matilda the Musical. The children there really sing well, and their synchronized dancing is amazing. A low bow.

I love the inclusion of the older children. The attitude they displayed in the alphabet song is just what this school did to them, but they weren’t the villains and are just as happy as the young kids abt Trunchbull being gone
That was something I noticed as well! At the beginning they were sorta painted as bad guys but after Trunchbull was gone they were the same as the other kids
Even the teachers were overjoyed at the children finally being able to be free of her horrible influence.

Trunchbull is actually pretty awesome for an old lady. She is the stereotypical Victorian era school master. At least these kids aren't setting fire to the school building so I'm fine. These kids as usual forget that school is run by government and they can do what they want when they put someone like Trunchbull in charge.

NAH imagine the rehearsels for this one scene... Like it must have taken many hours to get it down to this one take or many takes they put together. I learned entire scenes like this is not one shot it is many.
This is arguably the best part of the entire musical, and they didn't just deliver. They tore it down, ate it up, and made it their own!!
When i watched this for the first time I cried because of how well done this scene was.

Most child actors get the part because they were talented at the audition, barely any child actors get parts because they know someone who knows someone ffs.

There's a subtle moment where Matilda hears the words "a little bit naughty" and she smiles in recognition of her initial song, then looks sad as the lyrics go on to refer to the Chokey. That's so impactful to me.
Also the reference to Revolting Rhymes is a nice Roald Dahl callback.

I'm a preschool teacher in Texas and I have one of my students always sings this song with an accent and all.
So now all my kiddos sing along with her. I had to come on CZcams to check out this song and I'm amazed with this whole production ❤😊.

I love how the teachers are cheering them on. They were prisoners too because if they opposed the Trunchbull...they would lose their jobs. This video always makes me tear up because of all the kids had to go through and now they are free. I am always amazed at the choreography and how these kids nailed the heck out of it!

I really like what the movie did with Bruce, it makes the fact that he starts the song mean something. Somewhere, I have a piece of paper that was Bruce's homework that the kids threw during this song. He's not a great student lol.

I caught a glimpse of her dancing in a preview and watched the whole musical just to see her lol. I am a choreographer who has worked with lots of young people and I really enjoyed seeing all of these dedicated, talented and strong kids.
To have that many child actors that coordinated with their dancing is just incredible!

I used to be with the Australian Girls Choir and a couple years back we got to perform a medley of the songs from this musical. We got a standing ovation and did 3 encores that day. Heaps of fun and it's written very well.

Only allowing myself to watch one quadrant of the screen makes so many “draw attention” moments. There is so much in these scene that I could watch it for months and see new stuff.

The true stars of this whole production are each and every child in this film. I am so impressed with the amount of talent in this production. They did not go easy with this choreography and these kids delivered. The actress that played Matilda was just as great. Just so amazing

Not to take away from the insanely talented kiddos but The directing and Videography of this is also so good, Its soo fantastically done, each scene is set up so perfectly and just elevates this whole performance. Super good stuff

she is a dance prodigy, world champion is multiple tournaments. and a great actress too. her dance and performance is something i cant comprehend, so energetic and charismatic. i just cant stop watching

@@DismemberedHatthese kids are professionals. Don’t under estimate them. I teach dance and a 10 year old focused child could learn this and execute it to this level in two weeks tops. Maybe less.
