Its crazy to rip a wrist pin out of the piston, but when I was racing jr dragsters we ran 3 1/4 bore single cylinder flat head engines. All billet blocks, and internals. One time I split a billet rod straight in half down the center. It started at the wrist pin, and continued to split all the way to the crank. It was a crazy thing to see, and no one else at the track had ever seen one go like that.

When i had my old ek coupe i put RUFF R358 on it. Had a meaty stance and they never had an issue. They’d look amazing on yours

Common issue of th y7/y8 d16s, they have 1 oil port per rod on the crank as the older z6/a6 have 2 per rod, y7/y8 never hold up with much abuse unless heavily modified by drilling out the holes bigger on crank and bearings, most budget boosted hondas run z6/a6 block and arp rod bolts

I remember blowing up my d16a6 had a hole between cyl 2 and 3. Still drove it 26 miles home on two cyl no oil and no coolaint... A month later when I went to k swap the crx the d still fired right up..
Edit: Now I'm in the midst of awd swapping my ep3 good luck bro and don't get discouraged it's alot of work.

i find this hilarious because i bought a honda civic EX with the d16y8 and it had a ebay turbo kit (not to mention the two step tune it had) and it sent two of the four rods to mars and now rebuilding a b18b1 and boosting it and going to pop that in there. its gonna be dope
Found and watched this car in one day, and I miss it... It'd be super cool in a later color than offered in that year, example 2004 Civic blue.
Dude raise that chain up a couple links on that hoist. (The hook part). It helps get the engine over the core support.

Evan, Your going to need that manifold for the manual swap. Keep it. Save the head still looks good, just send it to a machine shop. It's salvageable Port and Polish Valves Springs and retainers and its golden.

You need a 96-00 Manual intake manifold also for the manual swap. Also the manual ecu
Has it got coded keys?
Formula1 Fan no chipped keys, but since the intake manifold is different the ecu doesn’t read the IAC, so it makes the cars idle retarded and jumpy.

Those other “ cracks “ are cast markings. The trans casing and block will have cast markings. If they aren’t on the other side then you good and it’s not a crack.

Did you ever clean out the metal shavings in the oil pan from when you put the oil return drain in? I'm wondering if the oil pick up got clogged and starved the engine of oil. Those pistons looked like they melted a bit so it might have gotten really hot. That along with stock bottom end and boost is never a good combo lol
