I’ve had a Ferrari red Linea Micra for nine months. It’s my fourth espresso machine (after a thermoblock and two E61s) and by far the best one I have ever owned or used. Moreover, it makes the best espresso I have ever tasted. The steam wand is a non-issue; all that’s required is a slightly different angle of initial attack and then it functions normally and very powerfully. It works with both small and large pitchers. It’s nothing more than a slight change in workflow that feels intuitive after one or two tries. Cup clearance is also a non-issue. I use a bottomless portafilter and all my notNeutral Lino cups fit on top of an Acaia Lunar 2021.
There is also the La Marzocco intangible: the machine feels beautifully crafted, extremely competent and consistent, and is simply a joy to use.
Excellent feedback! Now how about a Linea Silver Ferrari?
I have had my blue one now for maybe 6-7 weeks and have no regrets. Coming from an e61 that took 30-40 minutes to heat up to the 5-7 minute heat up of Micra has been such a welcome change. It's a no mess, no fuss machine, it just does what it is supposed to do and it does it well.
The investment is in your time and the confidence that LM brings to your experience. Hard to put a price on that... or may you can! Hahaha
@@HoneycombManila it was a pretty big decision, I considered many different options, but it has been the right decision for me. Fast heat up, quiet, takes up minimal space, does what it is supposed to and looks good. What's not to love!
@@sueburgess8593how is the height? Can u use all the cups
Thanks a million. You’ve sold me on the machine 😮
Glad I could help! Not a salesman tho 😅 but for real, it's a great unit.
Great video man!
Glad you liked it!
Great presentation, no coffee snobbery, just straight-up. You could have been talking about a new car, or anything for that matter, which is refreshing.
Glad you enjoyed. Thanks for watching!
That yellow looks great. I went the “safe” route and have the grey one on the way. I do like the painted backsplash plate on the grey colour, but I have to say that yellow would’ve been my choice if I was feeling brave.
It's gotta look nice in your home!
Hey Man, great video! White micra owner here! Crowd sourcing and getting mixed recommendations, any thoughts on back flushing with water everyday for a home used machine? Averaging 3-4 pulls only per day. Is 5 sec on 5 sec off in 5 sets still optimal?
Would like to hear from you. Thanks!
Great question. Me, I backflush every day, but I only use the detergent once a week for low volume, home machines.
Great review, is there another machine you would recommend that competes with this quality for a more mid range price, say under $2-$2,200 USD? Thanks!
At that price point, look to an e61 group head machine like a Lelit Bianca or a Rocket brand machine.
I love my Rocket Giotto Type V. It often gets looked over coz of the vibra pump, but I actually like it because of that feature. 5+ years later, I have no regrets and little maintenance.
@@HoneycombManila Great, Thank You!
I’m extremely interested in this machine but have 2 questions:
1. When you say 5-6 shots, doubles or singles?
2. What’s the fight below the porta filter? Can you still put a scale in there for example?
Oh a third one,
3. Would you recommend this for a small coffee shop with around 10-15 cups in a day
1. Doubles. I think in modern coffee, we're generally always talking doubles.
2. If you are using large circumference cappuccino or latte cups, you can put a acaia lunar scale, but anything bigger is a problem.
3. I would, if you can justify the purchase. 15 cups isn't gonna pay for the machine, so it's not great business to burn this amount of money unless it's serving another purpose, such as interior decor. Of course, it's also an asset that can be sold to recoup some of the expense.
@@HoneycombManila got it, thanks for the advice, and on the second I meant Height not fight, sorry about that, I was wondering if it’s around the same space as found on a flair 58 for example which is what I currently own.
@@knguros9415 i own a flair and a micra, i can say flair has more clearance height
Hi , nice video !!
Need help in deciding amongst micra & mini to buy.
In reference to you video,
How much time does micra & mini takes to retain temperature after 6 & 20 back to back shots respectively ?
Want to Buy it for my coffee desk Commercial Use.
Utilitiy : Avg 60cups /day sold (for Hot & Cold ) beverages
For both: I think 60 will probably be too many. 30 cups a day is probably ok.
Unfortunately, I don't have either on hand anymore to get an accurate answer for you, but generally speaking, both are not ideal for a full commercial setting. However, let's say you have a shoe store with a little coffee corner for your customers to come hang out, either machine will do.
Very nice review! Thank you for that! I’m on the fence… i’d like to own a la marzocco, but the mini is just too big for my kitchen, and i think that tiny wand on the micra will drive me nuts… :/ i drink cappuccino and cortado (small amount of milk).
Glad this helped. If you do go for it, know that what you can do is to use an extremely tiny pitcher with the micra. For small spaces and budgets, the Rocket Giotto Type V and Breville Bambino Plus are two favorites. If you have a bigger budget, I still REALLY love my Decent Espresso Machine. Each of those are best in pricing category, as is the Micra.
The Wand is atrocious, you aren't wrong
@@HoneycombManilawhat is the max height for the cups in cm?
Any experience with the La Marzocco lux d by Mazzer grinder?
Yeah. Unfortunately, I'm not really a fan of that grinder. I haven't really met a mazzer I like. There's always some problem. For example, the Mazzer Robur is amazing, but the burrs are so big that it generates a lot of waste. For smaller mazzers, the problem tends to be clumping.
@@HoneycombManilaThansk for the reply. That helps a lot the Eureka Specialita looks very attractive. Many choices out there!
You mean the Mignon Specialista? Yeah, it's pretty ok. We recently concluded our national barista championships and Eureka Atom was the sponsor. Steer clear of that grinder! Seems like every barista had some sort of problem. It clumps and has so much retention. As much as 4.5 grams difference between shots!
It’s a great machine … biggest negative is there is not enough room if you use a scale.
It seems so obvious.
how much is a latte at a cafe in Manila ?
That's an interesting question! Here in Honeycomb, our cafe's standard latte costs Php120, or around 2 USD. But most or many specialty coffee cafes have their latte's priced at around Php160, which is around 3 USD.
@@HoneycombManila considering the average person in the Philippines makes less than 10 dollars per day …
Great review! but only decent sound quality, I suggest investing in better microphone.
Working on it!
I'm disagree. Yo cannot pull more than 6-7 shots straight one after another. But if the machine rest for some minutes then that cycle will restart. So another 6-7 shots.
Interesting take. I suppose we are having different experiences. Thank you for the input.
Linea Micra owner here. Machine is a complete piece of crap. Randomly leaks clear water from the grouphead or portafilter into the cup below for no rhyme or reason. I'm sick of it. What the hell is La Marzocco's problem? No QA?
Whoa, that sucks. I didn't encounter this and I would return mine immediately to the distributor if that happened. It's a pretty penny and you deserve to get your money's worth.
Why haven’t you reached out to La Marzocco Technical Support, which is terrific by the way. Change the brew head gasket. It’s a simple fix. That happened to me a few months after heavy use, and I freaked out until a calmer head prevailed and I realized what was happening. Consumable part, inexpensive replacement. Use the silicon gaskets from La Marzocco.
This is probably the absolute worst machine I've ever used. I've had it for seven months. I've had a rotary pump go and now it doesn't turn on anymore and I'm servicing it again it's complete garbage Honestly, whoever is thinking about getting this machine stay away it is totally not worth it.
Excellent feedback. It's important to hear this perspective. Did you not receive any support from the brand? It should still be on warranty, yes?
Yes, I did receive warranty from the company and they came and picked it up but they take absolutely forever to get it back to me. Last time you was over a month and a half I'm sure it'll be the same this time at the end of the day, I spent all that money for reliability
You're absolutely right. You pay a premium and should get premium support. What country are you in?
I'm in Toronto Canada
Not the comment I was hoping for 😮. Am thinking to purchase
