What’s the reason why hazardous vehicles have to stop? Is it because a train still might be coming even though the lift gates are up?

Great video, I attempted to take hazmat test when I was getting my cdl permit and it’s the only test they (dmv Florida) would not allow me to take. They said I can only take it if I have a hazmat job pending, and that the endorsement will only be valid for 30 days. If I don’t have employment in that time frame, I’d have to re-test. I can’t get any help with this question of if this is true or if the lady was just not allowing me to test, for some reason, and now I’m almost finished with cdl school. Scheduled another date at dmv to test layer this month, going to attempt hazmat endorsement again since I already have tanker and twic out the way. Any idea where it states this for Florida, that you cannot get hazmat endorsement prior to getting your cdl? Thanks!!

I think you need to have your cdl liscens for 1 year. Than you can go get your hazmat

I actually ended up getting the hazmat endorsement once I obtained my cdl. There was no waiting period at all, and the hardest part was scheduling a date at the dmv office because since covid they no longer accept walk-in appointments. Once you take and pass the road test, you can take the endorsement test for hazmat. Once you pass that test, they take your fingerprints for a background check. After the background check is completed, they send the new cdl in the mail with the hazmat endorsement and you can store the previous cdl in a safe place. If you’re not driving a hazmat commercial vehicle, you don’t need to carry the hazmat endorsement cdl. It’s good for 5 years, after that you’re required to re-test if you’re wanting to keep the hazmat endorsement cdl. Some companies will pay for the background check if they require a hazmat endorsement to work there. It was roughly $90 here in Florida for the background check.

@@omjup7972 gotcha okay thank you. Do you know on how to get hired by a company with no experience? I’m in Florida as well and just got my cdl but every company says 1 year experience.

Yeah it’s actually a lot easier than you think, for example, if you have your hazmat/tanker endorsements you can drive for Schneider Bulk out of Houston or Coraopolis with no experience. I went to Houston and went through extensive training, pm me with any questions on that. But a lot of companies locally will hire with no experience if you’re willing to do the work, like septic tank drivers or waste management in general.

When I come to a stop do I have to apply my parking brakes or do I have to just stop with my truck in gear?
