I went to school with wealthy kids and our teachers were legit old money. Sometimes dressing old money doesn’t mean that you’re trying to fool people, but that you’re trying to fit in. You are also spot on, a few of my teachers were English gentry who took up teaching for income to pay for the upkeep of their estates and dressed understated and practically. Before dressing high-low was a thing in fashion, my teachers would mix things they inherited (coats, bags, jewellery) with practical blouses and shirts they bought in bulk or made themselves. I really admired that aesthetic and how put together they always were, even in the tropical heat. It was years later when I realised it was their self confidence that also made what they wore seem classy and elegant.
Yes, self confidence is the most important thing! And what I love about this style is that it really enhances our natural beauty and femininity, so it's an instant boost to our self esteem.
100% correct that the Old Money aesthetic is simply classic, tailored and polished style. Aristocratic circles are certainly not the end all, be all of social aspirations, (they are just humans like the rest of us). However, dressing this way lifts my confidence, commands a certain level of respect when I’m out in the world, and overall elevates my mood. And to be completely honest, it looks incredibly beautiful! Thank you for bringing up the costume jewelry topic. I’ve read that the wealthiest of people wouldn’t dare wear their finest items in public. Suppose they were robbed, suppose it drew too much attention. Coco Chanel was said to have preferred faux pearls over the authentic. Another great video Mariana! My favorite part is seeing the outfits you create and how you style them. So many incredible options.
there’s nothing wrong with wanting to look like a particular group of people that you aspire to be like and look like. dress like the person you want to become
I once worked in a company that had a secretary that was very disrespectful. She accused me of being "fake rich." I wore wool suits from Saks, silk blouses and cashmere. (My clothes were bought at 70% off.) While I wasn't super wealthy, I lived in a doorman building, traveled to Europe and dined out at fine restaurants. I never wore fakes. Guess she was just jealous.
A few days ago I watched "The age od Adaline". I am amazed with the character played by Blake Lively. All her wardrobe was brilliant and hair styles. There was some part of old Hollywood and classic chic. I am so inspired.
I love this movie and yes the wardrobe was flawless. I love how she kept touches of past decades in her modern wear, and even her speech pattern was a reflection of the when she grew up. Such a great film!
I ride. And I dont ever wear a plaid blazer with elbow patches when I ride, but I will wear my riding pants and boots with a sweater and blazer after I leave the barn. I don’t think it looks weird to take equestrian elements outside of the riding arena. Having said that, I do think tennis clothes outside of the court read as costumey. I love your videos, your style and your personality. You are the only youtuber whose style I resonate with. ❤️
When I think of pearls I always am reminded of this woman I worked with that was always very rude to me for no reason at all. Absolutely none. She approached me and touched my pearl necklace and said “oh, they are real.” 😂 I couldn’t believe her. Anyway. The pearls were also a gift set my mother gifted me and said “every girl should have a set of pearls.” If you can afford them great, if you can’t that’s still fine. As long as when you wear them YOU feel beautiful, that’s all that matters.
I know a woman who is always asking me if my jewelry and silk-looking clothes are “real”, or how much they cost. The implication is that I wear too many expensive things, it’s always followed up by a lecture on how frugal she is. It’s so embarrassing, I don’t know what to say. She is a confrontational person who always demands answers and puts people down, but I can’t avoid her, she’s a relative by marriage.
@@kimberlyperrotis8962 how horrible people can be with things that are absolutely none of their business. I took your advice on the long leather gloves with a cape and when I got them I bought a cape-jacket, which I’ve always wanted. Cold-arm problem solved and it looks great. I love the Old Money, or what I just call Classic, aesthetic. Thanks for the long gloves/cape tip and the follow-up in this aesthetic. I would love it if all you did was the Old Money aesthetic!

When it comes to jewelry, I think you can absolutely look chic with costume jewelry if you pick the right materials. My whole jewelry collection, although small at the moment, is a mix of fine and carefully chosen costume jewelry. I.e. I have a bracelet and a ring made out of stainless steel in gold, both pieces are years old (I bought them when I was a college student) and I wore them a lot and they still look brand new. So, some materials can be super durable even if they're not the real thing. Some brass pieces are also an example. Btw, great overall tips and those comments at the start of the video about fooling wealthy people are hilarious. :D
Yay! You mentioned finding amazing pieces at garage/yard sales ! For 5+ years I have spent every Saturday cruising for both garage and estate sales in my hometown. Some of my better finds have been real pearls (free), a floor length wool coat with a fur collar ($15), and timeless accessories such as brooches and sun hats (all less than $1). People clean out relatives' houses all the time and you can find lovely, classic trinkets and baubles for pennies on the dollar. Cheers, ladies!
Absolutely right about the fake jewelry. I have pieces from my mom from the 50s and 60s that I wear today. The pieces have not tarnished or lost luster. Monet, Napier, and quite a few others were of superb quality.
I loved your “old money aesthetic” video, I totally got your reason for recording it 😄 some people take things way too personal. Thank you for sharing your earrings, I love vintage jewelry.
Great follow up to the Old Money aesthetic video( which got me to your wonderful channel!). I recently discovered Massimo Dutti and I love their style..Please do show your costume jewellery collection. I would love to take some tips! ❤️
I loved this video and the one the comments were made on. People need to relax. You are right it is simply a look…take it or leave it. Congrats on your Max Mara coat. It is beautiful. You have a great personality and great style.
I love your videos and it never occurred to me that there is anything wrong with enjoying an old money aesthetic. I love classic, timeless pieces and appreciate your perspective. I would love to know where you bought your top. It is lovely. Delightful cut and a gorgeous color! Thank you, Mariana, for bringing everyone back down to earth so we can enjoy an aesthetic that is so beautiful. ❤
My grandmother gave me two pearl necklaces when I was in my late 20’s and back then I didn’t dress in a way that I can accessorize with pearls but I always kept them in the vintage jewelry back she gave me as well so now I’m glad I have them I just need to find my style now in my mid 40’s!
Instead of old money I prefer quiet elegance which is achievable for anyone who chooses it no matter your income or status. The people I know from old money aren’t overt. If you are something you don’t have to advertise it. No obvious designer wear but simple, classic polished and practical clothing.
I love your style! It didn’t come off as you trying to teach people to be fake. People have nothing better to do than to put others down in the comment section. Don’t worry about it because it helps your algorithm! That’s how I found you and I’m now a new subscriber!

I consider myself "Old Money" though not technically? My parents grew up in the Gilded Age of Cuba. Even as far as my Grandmother that was not Wealthy, hung out with her Wealthy cousins and ended up getting engaged to Barcadi, "the Barcardi" on a Dinner cruise! And both my Mom and Dad were both schooled on the finer things, which was handed down to me. My Mom took fashion very seriously, as she dressed Classic Chic and was on the edge of Snobby..just a bit. As she hung around with her Wealthy friends as well as my Dad at the Yatch Clubs in Miami. I grew up around it until I got Married. And now at 64, I've done a 360 and no longer wear Trendy styles? I call it, "Trashy" now? I have spent 5-6 years building my own Classic capsule wardrobe and even making plans to return to Miami where this type of fashion style is highly appreciated and accepted!💐 Love your Channel. Glad I found it today! (I can truly relate)
LoL people take things so seriously these days...I don´t think is weird to wear riding boots, actually I wear them during winter with a turtleneck and tight pants, and a matching leather bag, it looks amazing!!! besides I feel so elevated and different from the rest of the crowd. By the way, I love your look today, simple but classy.
One thing about pearls, they die, I inherited pearl earrings from my grandmother and just sent them to get replaced because the bottom pearls died. It lasted for decades but they did eventually.
I have bought pre loved jewellery for years and years, I have also shopped the charity shops but of late I have taken it a step further and started to buy vintage. I have managed to buy some beautiful pieces that I would never have been able to buy at the full retail prices. I love classic old money style. I would not want to go out and see someone wearing the exact same outfit as me. As a person I feel I an unique so I want my outfits to be unique as well. A nice strand of real pearls are on my wish list.
Love your channel and viewpoint! And have loved the classic style all my life, after experimenting all through my younger years, I always come back to simple classics. 💜
Have you ever watched American Viscountess CZcams channel? She's an American that married into English aristrocacy. She is super laid back, almost to the point that you wonder what they must think of her. Their family property is in constant repair and they are practically begging people to visit their property. This was another great video.

Thank you for watching! To me buying pants is a nightmare!! Nothing ever fits me properly. 😫 Right now I’m on the hunt for a good seamstress to get them made to measure.
Nooo, you have to wear it! Maybe try not wearing it as a set, because it can look more conservative that way. I also love wearing them when I have a sexier black dress on, because they counterbalance the sultriness a little bit.
I believe we do have A LOT of fantastic costume jewelry here in Brazil that have amazing design and all my colleagues in Europe always ask love the jewelry I wear. It’s mostly from Luiza Dias 111 or Arqvo. I also love a new option that is becoming quite popular in Brazil that is silver jewelry with 18k gold finish, for example by Jamming and even Monte Carlo 😘

And to finish, I love your energy, the way you talk, your style (of course 😊) and I am so happy to find your chanel ! Keep going thank you 💕
Vintage/used sounds better than it is. I have never been able to find a single wool blazer on those sites, for example, they’re all polyester crap. If I wanted that, I’d just go to Zara.
Hi, Nicole! These are vintage, but I found a pair that’s kind of similar here: kennethjaylane.com/collections/metallic-finish-earrings/products/polished-gold-shrimp-earring
Equestrian here: riding is about comfort. Nobody wears tweed elbow patch jacket on daily rides, jodhpur and boots yes but also legging and shorter booties . I used to compete in dressage which is really where dressing up matters. However, the dress code is extremely strict and you won't see any tweed there either.
I can assure you that multiple rows of real pearls are very heavy and somewhat uncomfortable to wear. The same goes for very large real pearls. At the end of the day you just want them off.
It's from Mango! The exact same one from the 90's look, but in beige. Here's the link 😉: shop.mango.com/us/women/t-shirts-and-tops-t-shirts/long-sleeve-t-shirt-with-ruffles_27013260.html?c=05
It takes more character to dress old money than it does to dress new money, because new money is so obvious with the bragging. Old money is more chill and elegant, and not actually focusing on the money (and technically, you don't need much money to dress old money, as Mariana explained.)
Regarding the riding outfit......it looks a bit too much if you go overboard with the look and add all of the pieces .It can look like you are trying too hard which is a giveaway that you are not old money. With costume jewelry......a well made piece and look better than a skimpy piece of genuine jewelry. I enjoy your videos and lets just have fun with it!
Thank you, Rosemarie! Yes, we have to remember to have fun with fashion! Of course we need to be practical, but adding some flare is never a bad thing 😉 as to the equestrian outfit, that’s great advice: wear the pieces separately!
Oh noooo! I looked at the site and it’s sold out 😩 but i did find this one that looks phenomenal, and has similar material, shade and collar shape to mine: us.intrend.it/p-2014010003001-riposto-camel
You don’t wear equestrian to a restaurant. Not sure why they said that if they did. You’re spot on. You wear it while doing outdoor activities. (Bonfire, camping, possibly even for a gardening, going to the park with your kid or kid you’re babysitting.)
Thrifting appears to be mystified into something that is not. Not specifically in this video. I mean generally speaking. If you go to a thrift store you will mostly find items that were purchased then donated in the last couple of years. Not ages ago. Yes. There are stores specializing in vintage but they are rare and true vintage is very expensive. Nonetheless, thrifting is still a good idea for both the budget and the environment.
The equestrian stuff is a little weird to me. I’m a rider and wouldn’t ever wear my riding boots (dressage, so they have a long shaft) outside of the arena. Even for barn chores I take them off. While my boots are the best on horseback, they are not made for walking, especially if they’re less than 4 months old hahah. All riders know how new boots feel in your knees, it’s terrible! So when I see people in ‚riding boots‘ it immediately looks like a costume to me. I get wearing riding pants, I do too, but equestrian inspired boots look very weird to me personally
Mariana, I think you are adorable! I love your videos and I love the Classic and Old Money styles. However I am vintage so I have to be careful not to look dowdy, for instance I love pearls too but I think they can look frumpy on a 70 year old. What do you think?
Hi, Janie! To make them less conservative, my advice would be to style them in a more relaxed way. For instance, instead of wearing them over a closed-up shirt, you could try it with a silk shirt, keeping the first buttons open and the necklace underneath, in contact with your skin. Also pairing them with brighter and bolder colors (jewel tones, primary colors), instead of with pastels and neutrals, will create a style contrast and make your looks a bit more modern. And you can always try pearls in more organic shapes (like Freshwater or Baroque). Hope this helps 😉
Hi Susan! I think it all depends on the type of jewelry. Gold is great if you want to wear a bolder piece, put daintier styles look very sophisticated in silver or white gold.
Hi Becky! The nail polish is by Londontown. It’s their Illuminating Nail Concealer: www.londontownusa.com/collections/nail-care/products/pink-illuminating-nail-concealer

Vintage/used sounds better than it is. I have never been able to find a single wool blazer on those sites, for example, they’re all polyester crap. If I wanted that, I’d just go to Zara.
so elegant style with long black leather gloves, nice fashion idea-can you show as some more long leather gloves fashion ideas in the next video?
Love your earning always - what are you wearing in this video? Would love to see a post on earnings!
Hi Karine! Well, so it's almost as if a tweed blazer with elbow patches isn't even equestrian, which means I absolutely can wear it for lunch 😂
The coat and the gloves! ✨ Amazing!
I can assure you that multiple rows of real pearls are very heavy and somewhat uncomfortable to wear. The same goes for very large real pearls. At the end of the day you just want them off.
Really enjoyed this, very inspiring thank you! 😀
Thank you, Rachel! ☺️
Great video!
Thanks!
Where is your top from? I love the neckline
Money does not buy happiness but it does make misery better than if you didn't have it.
Ugh can we hang out? 😭 That Princess Diaries comment absolutely got me ❤️
Mia Thermopolis is an ICON!!!!!!
We love you
Aaaw, Agnieszka!! Thank you!! 🥰
Well spoken!
Loved this, where is the top you are wearing from?
It’s from Mango! The exact one listed in the description box, but in cream. So glad you liked the video 😊
Cannot find the wool coat 😭😭😭😭. Love your videos!
Oh noooo! I looked at the site and it’s sold out 😩 but i did find this one that looks phenomenal, and has similar material, shade and collar shape to mine: us.intrend.it/p-2014010003001-riposto-camel
Hi Mariana, what beige top are you wearing for most of the video? Thank you!
Hi Nadine! It's from Mango, but I'm not sure they have it anymore. If I come across it in the coming season, I'll send you a link ;)
A wonderful video. I love the nautical look on men and women. Thank you.
Love your look in this video!
Can you do mens videos with old money?
Are u wearing ur top backwards?
looking poor and being rich beats the hell out of any look and being poor!! Prove me wrong!
Old money aesthetic is whispering, new money aesthetic is screaming
No, pearls are forever! From a 65 year old who has always loved them.
Do you ever wear silver or white gold jewelry? Would you consider that "old money"?
Hi Susan! I think it all depends on the type of jewelry. Gold is great if you want to wear a bolder piece, put daintier styles look very sophisticated in silver or white gold.

Your camel coat looks fabulous
Please share your nailpolish
Hi Becky! The nail polish is by Londontown. It’s their Illuminating Nail Concealer:

Sadly Massimo Dutti runs tiny and I don't fit in any of it :(
❤️❤️❤️
😍😍😍
What is up with the trend of clasping hands while making a CZcams video?! Not classy.
Custom jewelry is not classy, disregarding the price
🤨🤐
You are fantastic!
Thank you, Elle!! 😊
