Even as a kid growing up in 90s I felt rangelaa music and song picturization very fresh and modern compare to contemporary Hindi films
Rangeela is on jio cinema app
Oh man 'Rangeela' was not just a film it's nostalgia for my parents, they always say how excited they were because it was Rahman's music, RGV's god damn film. Dad had a huge crush on Urmila and Mum on Aamir and still continues to... They always keep telling the dialogues and say that is a Cult Classic. We as a family love that film and that had passed on for generations! Loved your take on it Sucharita ❤
A.R Rahman at that time was in the form of his life, everything he touched turned into pure gold like Midas, a huge portion of the credit of Rangeela's quality goes to Rahman's songs which at that time was so so fresh compared to the typical bollywood products.
she did not mention him at all
My family used to change the channel whenever a song from Rangeela was playing, due to the bold attires of Urmila. This made me utterly curious as a kid. Finally when I was able to watch Urmila in those mesmerising songs, I was flabbergasted by the way Urmila carried herself without a glimpse of vulgarity. She will forever me my childhood love ❤️.
Love u Saroj Ji , will forever be the definition of Bollywood Dancing.
Urmila is simply the 90s super diva star , who is pure talent and excels in EVERY department. I miss her on big screen.
This is undoubtedly the best flick of RGV.
R.i.p saroj ji .....a extremely talented woman ALLAH bless her soul
there are soo many things i could talk about Rangeela. will just mention a couple things.. Rangeela was the FIRST audio cassette i bought in my life and listened for a month without changing. Tanha Tanha and Tip Tip barsa paani i feel are the sexiest song picturised yet and these two song made my pre teen years very very colorful. i had dreams ( you know what kind ) of Raveena and Urmila for many months. music holds even today film probably not so much. wish it had more real ending. even then i couldnt fathom a movie star Urmila would fall for a nobdy Aamir.
This is much better movie than the review you have given...Aamir's one of the best performance...she has not even mentioned
She did mentioned but her perspective was about over all movie rather focusing one actor
Even as a kid growing up in 90s I felt rangelaa music and song picturization very fresh and modern compare to contemporary Hindi films
As a 90's kid, I agree.
Please don't dont stop this series! Even if it does not get much views... Continue it! It's ammmmazing!
I watched it today and wow wow wow
Urmila's her smile her voice her cuteness her figure her physique her dance 💃 just wow she totally nailed it
FC there are lots of underappreciated gems from the 90s - Enough have been said about classics like Dch, Rdb,tzp instead you should pick lesser discussed films such as sarfarosh, pati patni aur Woh, hazaroon khayaishen aise , love sex aur dhokha, Mr and Mss Iyer, English August, Bombay boys, Is Raat ke subah Nahi, Sardari begum, Naseem , zubeida , A train to Pakistan, Zakhm, 1947 earth, chameli, mein Madhuri Dixit banna chahti hoon, darna mana hai, Iqbal, door, socha na tha etc
With each passing year it becomes painfully obvious how swayed Sucharita is by stories that revolve around women. The way I see it, Rangeela wasn't even a women-centric film. It was quite simply a refreshing take on the story of an underdog with wide starry eyes and charming naivety. In that sense it was similar to Khamoshi (SLB's first film) and Annie's story arc but with a more fantastical treatment.
While this was still an entertaining review, to gloss over the pitch perfect performance of Aamir Khan or the subdued yet stately presence of Jackie Shroff does the film a huge disservice. In fact, this was quite possibly the first time in the 90s where an A-list Hindi film hero like Aamir Khan underwent a complete image makeover to bring an element of authenticity to his character - something that wasn't very common in those times.
I remember as a 90s kid more than 90% of the indian population are unable to absorb the music of "Mangta hai kya"song (from Rangeela) when it was released in TVs. It was later become a slow poisoning music and became hit.. ARR is seriously way ahead of generation..
I cant find the song you mentioned. Is it the one from hindustani?
@@tibbntfui ..No no.. It is from the same Rangeela movie.. Sorry that was my typographical error..Its MANGTA HAI KYA from Rangeela
You r exceptional my friend. You hit points of the film, probably even RGV didnt know he was. RANGEELA was a CULT CLASSIC. Twenty years from now also, munna saying aisa kuch la jo aang to lage, will still be in your mind.
After watching the flim I feel she is the most underrated actress ❤️ her eyes omg it speaks alot ✌️
thoroughly entertaining and full Paisa vasool movie of 1995... just brought back so many memories! lovely songs... great choreography and ofcourse aamir khan's acting!! those were the days.....😔... simpler times! thanks for taking us back....
Sucharita, your Time Machine videos have inspired me to rewatch some of these iconic movies. Watched Dil Se the same week you reviewed it. And was just hoping for Rangeela next and here it is!
Great video! Loved the part about the depiction of Jackie’s character v/s Aamir’s.
I remember it was my first year in college and we had the freedom to watch movies like never before ... we bunked college a lot and watched all the movies you listed in this review as major releases of the year ... most were duds .... ppl went crazy over DDLJ but I loved Rangeela over DDLJ (which i found even at the age of 16 pseudo moralistic and misogynistic and still do 🙄)
One of my fav films ever. I wish you had talked about the performances a bit more. I think this is one of Aamir Khan's best performances ever. The scene where he sells the tickets at the theatre and the hotel scenes where he asks for the fan to be turned don, are Hindi movie cult classics, IMO.
I am glad u spoke about this gem. Rangeela :) Thank you! And yes, Urmila is exquisite!
R a n g e e e e l a a R e e . . . .
Oh! how can I forget those opening beats of the film.
It was Eros Cinema at Church Gate, where I saw it. To my surprise, as it was my first movie in Bombay, before the movie started, there was a huge gust of fog followed by a full throttle opening beats of the title song in newly introduced Dolby Sound!
I was a cinema disciple then, and getting this treatment for a cine goer was just out of the world.
It was the commercial cinema at it's best. The class in the mass appeal of Rangeela was unmatched.
Ram Gopal Verma and Rehman arrived in Bollywood with a Bang through it.
This movie was remade in Hollywood also by the name Win A Date with Tad Hamilton
I.
Still.
Play.
This
Soundtrack.
Even.
Today!!!!
LOVED, loveddddddd this movie!!!
Rangeela and DDLJ were the best films that took SRK and Aamir Khan to the next level. As great as DDLJ is, Rangeela has better performances from an acting standpoint while DDLJ has more memorable dialogues and songs. 1995 was a great year for films!
This is some brilliant writing and perspective, kudos to sucharita
Urmila is a classic.... Brilliant performance.. Pure Indian Beauty. 💝
Thank you for this Sucharita. I'm going to watch this soon
I remember drawing Rangeelas title name in my notebook. Girls my age were hooked to Bollywood & it’s glamour.
I was 11 when this movie released and haaaaay Urmila! Tanha tanha 😍
Rangeela one of the best romantic musicals ever made.
I remember when I was a kid
I used to dance to Tanha Tanha. It's such a nostalgic movie.
I actually thought of typing this film in the comments to suggest u to review... And its really shock that u picked it...
Rangeela days were my beautiful childhood all sweet memories im from madurai down south T. N my love for hindi and hindi cinema all started from rangeela i feel myself very blessed to born on that magical A. R. Rajman era i bet rangeela sound tracks were ahead of a century ... no one can touch that pinnacle .. as the title sounds rangeela was my colourful bachpan if god gives me a wish i ask him to take back to that age that era that year plz ...
Hey sucharita u just explained it so well i literally felt like reading a article
Just finished half way.. was itching to watch it after RGVs chat with Anupama.. loved your review..
I think AR Rahman’s music from the 90s are way better than what he does today. His 90s music has withstood the test of time, one won’t even know they’re from the 90s.
Why nobody is talking about MANGTA HAI KYA??????????
Because most people are still figuring out the lyrics
because nahi MANGTA...
It really is one of the most underrated songs of Rahman. The piano melody unbelievably surreal
Also you are very skilled and joyful anchor Suchitra! I always have a smile on my face when I listen to your reviews! Thank you!
How the day turns out to be surprising
1. Landed on this video
2. Heard Shekar Kapoor's name somewhere
3. Started wondering what's he up to these days
4. Went to his wiki page
5. Ended up on Elizabeth: The Golden Age page
6. Realized AR Rahman did the music with Craig Armstrong for this movie
7. Learnt that the music used in the Man of Steel trailer was from the Storm track of Elizabeth: The Golden Age which is credited to ARR
8. Epicness of the music and that trailer - Mind blown
My God My Inspiration My Philosopher My Life My Rgv🔥
Absolutely luved your review of this classic movie 🍿
never thought of parallel between Rangeela And La La Land.... Absolutely the energy of the central character is mostly the same in both movies apart from other things... La La Land gave Hollywood a tru Beautiful hardcore Musical extravaganza after Decades... wonder if bollywood gets one this decade like rangeela but for this generation
Love u suchi💝
AR Rahman ♥️
Pls watch more movies😅😅😅... Its wonderful to hear ur views....😍😍😍
How does RGV go from this to aag?his talent almost magically disappeared a while after the noughties started. Was he even making these initial movies?!
His hits are unintentional flops are planned..
Like Anurag Kashyap recently said - Ramu has isolated himself and is cut-off from everybody. And when you are in that state, you lose touch with what works and what doesn't.
forget aag, the duds he is making now are cringe fest
The soundtrack for Rangeela is pure gold. From Yaaro, to Aye rama to Tanha Tanha.
I had the same opinion about the movie's ending. It was an unnecessary resolution. Sort of playing it safe.
Kya baat hai. Bahut hi badhiya review and thoughts! This movie is special to me in many ways, one of the earliest movies I saw in theatre as a just about teenager. Being a Bombayite, my heart beats for the city so well captured in this movie and then finally Urmila neh is movie se hamare jaise kahiyo ko jawaan kar diya 😉
I really love aebum enjoy the tarika you talk to hum log , i don't know why that always blow mera dimag.... Thankyou 😂😂😂
Rangeela is my favorite movie!! Thanks for reviewing!!
Don’t think Sucharita likes Aamir Khan! This movie belonged as much to him if not more to Urmila and I am surprised how she did not mention any special things about Aamir! No one could ever imagine Aamir doing the Tapori role! He not only nailed the look, he completely owned the character! I remember watching it in theatre and every time he entered the scene, people were clapping and whistling! He was worthy of all the awards that year because he broke the mold and raised his own bar higher!
U r awesome.i love time machine reviews.waiting for next.the dil se review was great,it had me in splits.love ur work.
But Sucharita, Mili's love for Munna doesn't come out of nowhere. He may have never been sure of it, but for Mili, she almost takes Munna for granted. And it's when he leaves that it hits her. I thought Urmila was so damn good in that scene. But I did spare a tear for poor Jackie. :)
Loved your review!! Made me think of things I conveniently ignored when I used to watch this. Also,
You’re so freaking adorable ☺️
Loved this thoughtfully written video essay
Did you not know or simply chose to ignore the fact that Steven Kapoor was actually spoofing Vinod Chopra, you know for obvious reasons.
Interestingly, Anupama herself mentioned that in her review of Rangeela!
I think everyone has their perspective. So it's not a sin
OMG and how fresh the songs from this movie. I love Munna he is a confident but sweet softy guy who respect women and not being creepy or stalker like hindi movie heroes back then he Left Milli when he found out what is best for her. I mean such a beautiful movie it was. Urmela was just perfect for this movie how good she is as an actress again Bollywood wasted the talent like her by giving mediocre movie to her (mostly). Shifali Shah's character was actually inspired by Sridevi in real life and tbh it was too funny.
Thank you for honoring Saroj Khan
Sucharita,
Please make a video on RGV.
What an icon. Will never ever ever forget Rangeela and Satya.
Urmila was a classic of her time
Always love for Rangeela
I miss urmila.. very good actress
how nicely done Sucharita and you so well and accurately captured the essence...
This was a beautiful review. I loved it 😍
aaj chaliye phir rangeela phir se dekh hi leti hu... it reminds me of my childhood memories
What music and dance in this movie😇😢 silly ending tho, no one would believe that a successful debut film actress would run to claim her true love, a street urchin.. and this love she realises in the last two mins, lol.. unreal, but they wanted a 'happy ending' I guess.
Madam you Explain RANGEELA VERY NICE 👍💃
Hey, sucharita, it's on Jio Cinema, man
I love you more in this lockdown version.
Please also review old regional movies and their technicality (music, photography, choreography) which are all way ahead of Bollywood.. Tell Bollywood how old their ideology are..
Sucharita I like when you talk about female characters in movies but also talk about the performance of Aamir, one of the best to come out
Urmila♥️
Try watching Daud. This is masterpiece very few got to understand enjoy. I am sure your kind of person would have enjoyed it or will enjoy.
I love watching this breakdown of older movies. Can you please do this for Zakhm and SLB's Khamoshi? I really want to know your view.
what a brilliant retrospective review!
Rangeela was like kagaz ke phool 😆
RGV has showed the truth in the movie.
Eros I believe has a streaming service of their own hence I think that is why u won't find their movies elsewhere.
Please review 'Salaam Bombay' in this time machine series. I think you'll put some thoughtful aspect that we could understand more about that fantastic film. Please Sucharita!!!
I remember watching in theatre and people going crazy for tanha tanha song.. all credit to RGV for making best use of Urmila and Rehman
Best movie Rangeela
same similarity I felt for aankhon dekhi and bird-man whose climax was very close to eachother...
Do a Time Machine about Satya, Chupke Chupke , and Golmaal also .....😊
I pray our old RGV come again
Waiting for Dil Chahta hain, Rang De Basanti and Lage Raho Munnabhai Time machine!
Nice Review. Just one correction, Andaz Apna Apna was directed by Raj Kumar Santoshi not RGV.
I dont think she was talking about the director when she compared the 2 films. She was talking about the fact that both films kind of parodied Hindi cinema tropes.
Gone are the days when people used to watch movies as movies and not comparing to the real world. Logic and imagination can't always go hand in hand.
Sarfarosh ... Pls review that also sucha...
And now he is making movie with Mia malkova😂
GST..😂😂😂
He will do what ever he wants
@Ashley D yesssss
Sucharita you are amazing. Hope Saroj ji is resting in peace, making heaven her dance floor. Thank you, Master ji. You were wonderful ❣️
Rangeela>>>> La la land
I still do not understand why did Aamir khan not win the best actor award. Yes DDLJ is a really good film, but this was a complex role and this was a tapori act for the ages.
He did not even get a nomination for best actor for Rangeela(got that for Akele Hum Akele Tum)
I often wonder why RGV never made it to the top shelf of directors. He has a different take on cinema making.
Enjoyed your review
We miss that RGV. Great review!
Great video 👍
Rangeela is a landmark movie
Just being picky and because after noticing it couldn't unsee it. The face makeup is a shade darker than her neck. Maybe it is the lighting and home ambiance wala jugad. But it is not the case in her previous time machine videos. On a different note, Rangeela as desi La la Land is very good reference.
I was too soon to comment but wow, just wow. This review is so much more than what I expected. I want to see Sucharita review more films and call out classism, casual sexism, the glorification of a problematic thing that we just grew up being okay with. Looking forward to more such reviews.
Rangeela was remade by Hollywood as win a date with tad hamilton
Am I the only one identifying potter books by cover in the bookshelf at the back?!
Can u do a time machine of "Judaai".. another great movie of 90's. Paresh rawal comedy sridevi best performance no doubt
