in-character improv can be very difficult when the audience passes through quickly. It is really difficult for the customer to actually make out what is being said much of the time, mostly due to distraction.

Whenever I need a laugh I just watch the standup antics of Universal's Megatron. I hate theme parks but these two guys (the voice and the act) make it almost worth jumping out to LA just to see him do his thing!
