Love the2nd apt too but the 1st was a good practical choice!!! Wonderful how they bought the fur babies over!!! Great couple and blessings to ur future family!!!
House 1 is definitely dated and much older but is very spacious and bright. Could use some good old love to help it out. House 2 is a really beautiful wonderful gorgeous spacious home big time. House 3 is definitely smaller and more cramped but is very modern too. It is a good starter home.
Great video. Interesting to see how the other half lives. I have 4 motor bikes and 2 cars, so flats, are out for me. I purchased my home anyway. Even though they wouldn't like the way my home is furnished, owning beats renting. You can make the larger space I have, anything you want. Next door to me was rented for a while, it was $150 a month, for a two story, building. I would never rent anything like these guys have. But I'm cheap!
Just got back to Canada from Cambodia a month ago. Seeing this video makes me miss Cambodia. I would love to return to Cambodia very soon. I wish there was a way we can follow this couple's life in Cambodia. Best wishes to them both.
Foreigners are 100% eligible to own a freehold condominium in Cambodia. Some helpful link below for more details: www.investphnompenh.com/buying-properties-in-cambodia-foreigners-guide/
$500? you can't even find a ghetto 3rd floors attic that have no kitchen, not to mention pool and all that here in America for $500. For that price , you have to rent a room share with other individuals for that price in the U.S. No wonder many people here are on the street we called them homeless.
Yes, you can. I had a two bedroom 900 sq ft in a good area for $579 just a few years ago. Large, eat-in kitchen, 2 pools. Would have been cheaper for one bedroom. The only downside was laundry was not in-unit, so you have to use a portable one if you don't want to go out to do laundry in the facilities. There were cheaper ones that weren't as nice or large in areas that weren't quite as nice--but not ghetto by any means. It just depends on the area. We were in a suburb 20 minutes from the city. Go further out to the rural areas, it'll get even cheaper. Location, location, location.
You can totally find something at that price point. You just need to move out of major cities. I took a job in a really nice university town in the Midwest. There were 2 bedrooms for that price. I paid 700 and got a four bedroom house on a huge lot with snow removal and gardening. No pool, though.
Actually, $800 is over the price market in Cambodia. I had my own apartment just a few blocks from riverside, and it was only $270. It had everything you need.
I liked the 3rd house. Although it was only 1 bedroom, for 500 with those amenities (pool, gym, and entertainment area), it was worth it plus they are renting not buying. Would have stayed there for a year or two and saved enough to get a more permanent place closer to work.
what about having to deal with so much traffic everyday? By the time you get home, you're too tired to do anything with your partner. It's a great choice for single guys and ladies.
@tammybristol1094 I get what you mean but renting is supposed to be for a short while, get a feel of where you are moving to and then buy because that is way more investment than handing cash to someone every month for theirs. They don't have kids yet so I see no reason why 1 bedroom won't be enough. Besides, there are weekends and public holidays so one won't go to work every day.
@hayaglamazonluxe In my comment, I mentioned staying there for a year or 2 to save money to buy. How long will depend on when they intend to start having kids.
Rules for cheap living in place like Cambodia: 1: Live without air conditioning. This means no insulation is needed in the walls. It also guarantees you WAY better air quality. Many people don't open their windows much and use those ridiculous wall mounted air conditioners. In a time of COVID this is pure insanity. (I realize this was posted long before COVID.) The downside is with the windows open you'll need to choose a quiet area. Sleep with earplugs or build a sleeping chamber with sound absorbing ventilation. 2: Don't expect EVERYTHING you had from home to be replicated there. Learn to adapt. The people live fine without some of our conveniences. You won't die without them all. 3: Do NOT drive your own vehicle as you're at the mercy of the authorities if there's any accident or problems. Get a local to drive you. Its cheap. And much less stressful. Also you can work in the car while you're being driven. 4: Use running/speed walking as a form of transportation. Or get a bike. 5: Finally: Live simply. The main thing most people need is internet. After that its gravy. 6: Its usually a terrible idea to buy before spending at least several months in an area and also after exploring the country. Its just a bad idea to buy period. It traps you in that area. And what a nightmare trying to sell if you're not a local.
When you live in an apartment that is also in Phnom Penh, have an outdated kitchen, live right next to a busy restaurant, have somebody rent the lower floor, have horrible wifi, have an outdoor area with an open roof where pigeons poop on, a bathroom the size of a big elevator, has no swimming pool, and having to share a bedroom with my sister-who is twenty mind you, I'd say you're lucky.
I'd get the thousand dollar place. For those talking about a mortgage they have to pay in Tuscon, they are clearly going to rent it out. The only true major consideration is the traffic. Southeast Asian traffic is a killer!
The 2nd apartment was $1k p/m ....thenguy sounded Australian, you can't even rent a room in Melbourne for that money. He's also a pilot , so he must be on decent $$$$$$. I wouldn't want to go for a drink with him , you would spend all night trying to get him to pay for a round.
What does working at a university have to do with using a gas oven? I never used one in my life or ever had one. Not every place has them in the state's or Canada.
He lacks "character." What's the problem with the "budget." A thousand a month shouldn't be a problem with both of them working. Are wages super low in Cambodia?
Peter, it's not very low for foreigners. For the locals, yes, wages are low. A foreign (white person) English teacher without a University degree can make up to $1,200 U.S a month. That's way more than the locals average $130/month. The woman in this video is a director at her school so I'm pretty sure she's going to be bringing in more than $1,200/month. In addition to her husband's salary, they can easily afford apartment #2.
Kimbuja don’t assume foreigners always make a lot more $$$ in Southeast Asia. They will make more but peanuts in comparison to their salaries in America, Canada, Australia, etc. They have a mortgage in Arizona so their salaries have to pay the mortgage AND rent.
So Phil got his way..lovely choice 😒. I mean its not like you couldn't of made the 2nd house a home by DECORATING it. But 200 is going to break his piggy bank.. Yawn
Living in Cambodia is like living in Long Beach CA Lol. Not much of a difference. You got palm trees, rows of houses near shops, bakeries, restaurants. etc.
800 dollars per month is ALOT of money in that country. The average cambodian makes about 200 per month in that city. At the time of filming you could get a similar apartment in Tucson for the same amount of money.
Just a passport and valid visa. You can purchase a Visa on arrival and then extend it from within the country. If you're working, your employer will need to write you a verification of employment letter for you to obtain a work permit. It's really easy and there are agencies that can help you out. For the visa and work permit plan on it costing $500 per year.
Love the2nd apt too but the 1st was a good practical choice!!! Wonderful how they bought the fur babies over!!! Great couple and blessings to ur future family!!!
I'm making my return to Cambodia for the first time in 43 years. Love to meet you guys for lunch. Derrick
House 1 is definitely dated and much older but is very spacious and bright. Could use some good old love to help it out. House 2 is a really beautiful wonderful gorgeous spacious home big time. House 3 is definitely smaller and more cramped but is very modern too. It is a good starter home.

What crazy prices. U can live in a comparable far cheaper than this. U don't mive to Cambodia to pay 850 a month
I'm Cambodian-American and I can't even see myself living in Cambodia lol. Nice place to visit though!!! Would love to go back soon!
When *I* stepped on the airplane is Cambodia, I thought I was having an asthma attack. In fact, it was the extreme polution and humidity.
$855 You can buy your own house by paying installment there in Phnom Penh. it will be yours in about 10 years
Are foreigners allowed to buy in Phnom Penh? I was born in Vietnam--though a US National--and there are restrictions for ownership there.
Foreigners are 100% eligible to own a freehold condominium in Cambodia.
Some helpful link below for more details: www.investphnompenh.com/buying-properties-in-cambodia-foreigners-guide/
What your article just described are typical restrictions. I would advise any foreigner to proceed with caution.
500 hundred for a furnished apartments, gym, pool, and walking distance to the russian market, I'll stop complaining the agents did a good job
that apt was embarrassing.
Kinda expensive for Cambodia
I don’t blame Sophia. If I’m working , I want what I want. Phil can stick with $800 if he paying for everything

I like the third house, they could move to a bigger house when they children.
Actually, $800 is over the price market in Cambodia. I had my own apartment just a few blocks from riverside, and it was only $270. It had everything you need.
house hunters always inflates the prices for the show
@@veedub2798 how do you know?
I don't understand how one could jump into a bed with shoes on!

Just plain lack of courtesy and self centered personality, nice guy but oblivious to respect for other’s property.
Hope fully the construction finish soon? Hah yeah never. The counstruction near my house been taking place for 10 years
You just can’t beat that. Plus the weather warm all year round.
I liked the 3rd house. Although it was only 1 bedroom, for 500 with those amenities (pool, gym, and entertainment area), it was worth it plus they are renting not buying. Would have stayed there for a year or two and saved enough to get a more permanent place closer to work.

The 1bedroom is tight for them considering they want kids.

Dublado em português ok !👍 o Brasil agradece e eu também ☺ 🇧🇷
This couple is super annoying but the estate agent is lovely. I really appreciate that they featured a local estate agent.

I wish "Bill and Hillary" really would move to Cambodia.
What you talking about
When you live in an apartment that is also in Phnom Penh, have an outdated kitchen, live right next to a busy restaurant, have somebody rent the lower floor, have horrible wifi, have an outdoor area with an open roof where pigeons poop on, a bathroom the size of a big elevator, has no swimming pool, and having to share a bedroom with my sister-who is twenty mind you, I'd say you're lucky.
Great choice. Wish them the best. I could only spend $500.

She works @ a university and she needs someone to show her how to use a gas oven?
What does working at a university have to do with using a gas oven? I never used one in my life or ever had one. Not every place has them in the state's or Canada.
You know many places typically use electric not gas.

yes super low super super
it is still one of the poorest countries in the world

Phnom penh 120$/month and countryside can be half of it

electic oven ; how do you do if you got power cut !!! need to have a back up generator in your building !!! then GAS is maybe a good option !!!
So Phil got his way..lovely choice 😒. I mean its not like you couldn't of made the 2nd house a home by DECORATING it. But 200 is going to break his piggy bank.. Yawn
Per month. Plus the cost of decorating. And 2 hour commute per day that can be spent enjoying life.
why he shake her hand like that at the decision...very awkward
When people agree they shake hands , I think.
Living in Cambodia is like living in Long Beach CA Lol. Not much of a difference. You got palm trees, rows of houses near shops, bakeries, restaurants. etc.
