  • Today, Lawman Guitars has for you...
A 1959 Old Kraftsman by Kay Professional Series Arch top Electric Guitar with the cool Kay Pancake Case Pickup that sounds amazing and the original Kay Soft shell Case.
These guitars were made by Kay for the spiegel catalog.
They were sold from 1952 thru 1959. There is no indication of what year this one is, so I am calling it a 1959. It could be any year from 1952 thru 1959.
They are VERY high quality. Solid Carved Spruce Tops and Maple back and sides. The sides are very "Flamey" Maple and it gives this guitar a really nice bright sound. Not muddy at all.
The Kluson Single Line Original Tuners also give credence to the age. See pics.
This cool guitar has been around but not wear on the back of the neck or the frets. It is in terrific shape..
It has the awesome sounding Kay Pancake Case Pickup, original knobs and wiring harness, Original Kluson Single Line tuners, tailpiece and even Bridge..
We had to replace the original pots, they were shot, a new nut and the Pick guard is a very nice reproduction. After that its all there and works well.
This Rockin' Axe is made to be played. I couldn't believe the sound from the Kay Pickup. Fat, Full and in your Face...
The neck angle on this guitar is awesome. No sore fingers playing this one. Even I could play this guitar all night.
Low comfy action on this guitar. I sell a ton of Kay guitars with these pickups. My customers love them as do I.
The guitar ships in the original great fitting case shown. It is very clean but needed some repairs. I got it back together with my glue gun. It will stay together but should be put under the bed. Not a case for travelling.

Whether it's the pickups or the acoustic signature of the body, that guitar has a magnificent sound. It's right up there with the hollow Gretsch of the past. It's something a solid guitar wishes it could have.

I have the regular non electric version of this Old Kraftsman from around 1955. It's a great guitar. It's got the same color sunburst. Super cool.

Still have it? Any chance you're looking to make some room and might let it go?

Nice sound and tone on the Kay Pick-up. It seems like a lot of modern day pick-ups are so bright and difficult to get that ole bassy thick sound of the older pick-up that came from the era where this guitar comes from.

Check out Vaughn Skow from Nashville, he custom builds P90 pickups designed for acoustics like this. They are KILLER.

I'm a Kay collector. you are holding a guitar that's truly sentimental to me. It was my second guitar (my first was a 65 Kay 1150 rare orange sunburst) I purchased the '59 KM in a music store for $65.00 including an amp, hard case, books etc and I started a 50 year career playing guitar. I was told it sold at sears for about $35.00 back in the early sixties. That was the widest rear bough I ever saw on any guitar, But I'm tall so it fit my arms well when playing seated. I wish I still had it!

Go ahead and plug that amp in! They're indestructible. Ummm 1st: Better check the cord and replace it if its gone stiff or shows cracks, or brittleness. No need blowing up the house because of a faulty cord. Replace it from $3.00 and up. Also: The RGA 5v4ga Amp tube is a usual bad one. find them on ebay for $6-10.00. Guitar? Yes the headstock is the key, Prob an old sears model. Shame about the paint. Did you try a commercial stripper yet? Sometimes they'll take off just the house paint used. Or, it'll take all the paint off, in which case you'll have a chance to do it in over correctly in your color(s).

The top is heat pressed, not carved. Also, the top is laminated spruce, not maple.

That's a beauty! Why does it have acoustic strings on with an electric guitar pickup?

  • @BlueberryStinkFinger62

nice video...no not true about the serial numbers many company's for one reason or another did not put serial numbers on all their guitars and they wern't cheap...i dont know why they did that but they did
