    I think this good. Mlb need to stop paying these dudes ridiculous amount of money for 7 years to 10 years. These type of deals never turn out good and ultimately teams regret the contract within 5 years of the deal. Also handicaps the teams future. Yes players should get paid no doubt but max deals should be 5 years and range between 100m to 150m. Thats more than enough. Its good that owners and teams are smarting up

      they gotta pay them no choice. If the teams make more money the players deserve more money. Ill agree on the # of years though that shits ridiculous. 5 years a team can do but fuckin 8???

      MLB is drastically moving towards the NBA free agency style. Now in the NBA, players don't get contracts over 5 years

      I totally agree with u. Baseball contracts should max out like nba contracts, 4/5 yrs. Since its baseball max out at 35/40 mil a yr only for the top players

      I'm of two minds because I don't begrudge the players trying to get their cut of the pie they give their bodies and time for, but some of the contracts really don't make any sense. Yeah, you can be good in baseball to age 35 or beyond if you don't build up a lot of injuries, but frankly any contracts over 6 years long or MAYBE $25 million a year for up to 4 years seem illogical to me unless someone hits with Stanton's power, Altuve's eye and fields like Lindor.

    Listening to this now, the JD Martinez deal may go down as one of the best bargains of all-time.

    The players are to blame.. everyone is crying that Bryce Harper is still on the free-agent block. Him not signing is causing other slowdowns for outfielders. However, Harper was offered 10 years at three hundred million dollars before the offseason even started. Manny Machado has had an offer from the White Sox for over a month. Him not signing is causing a slow down for third baseman and shortstop. It's not on the teams so, it's on the players!

    This has a lot to do with the steroid era coming to an end. Since players aren’t able to play to their age 36, 37, 38, etc signing a player at age 30 to a 7-8 year deal is just bad business. Too many of these contracts blew up in their faces. Plus with the big market teams not wanting to go over the salary cap it’s creating a perfect storm.

    I completely agree with the MLB. For years we’ve seen almost every deal for 8-10 years fail after the first 3-4 years. Players need to realize that if your over 30 they shouldn’t get any deal over 5-6 years.

    Thank you 🙏🏼. Players need to play the sport for the love of the game not the money. They are privileged to get paid tons of money for what they love to do.

    • @TheFruitney
      @TheFruitney Před 6 lety +1

      It not that simple my friend. Owners are making billions off of you over the course of your career. On top of that, you stop making money once you retire. A player has the right to try and make as much money as possible throughout the course of his career and an owner has the right to pay or not pay such a player. I think $300 Million dollar contracts are absurd for any player in baseball; I dont care how good they are. Ask the Angels about Puljos or ask the Rangers/Yankees about Arod.

    • @bravom80
      @bravom80 Před 6 lety

      Abraham Hassan that’s my point exactly. Players have been spoiled with crazy contracts and remember that players make money out side of their contracts with commercials and endorsements. Micheal Jordan probably made more money retired than as an athlete, same with Lebron who makes more money in endorsements than his contract. Yes owners make billions but they have the right to say that certain players can’t make more than what they ask for. Next thing you know 400mil contracts would be the norm

    • @TheFruitney
      @TheFruitney Před 6 lety

      hey you cant begrudge a player and his agent for trying to get max value. Not everyone can be Jordan so that a bit unfair but i feel you

      rockybluekiller profesional athletes get to where they are because of the love of the game. They spent their whole life getting to where they wanted to be and get paid really well. I wish they paid me at least 1 million at my job. These guys get paid 5-10 million per year if they are decent and 20 million plus if they are great plus endorsements. They have to be less selfish and if you are getting 20-25mil per year, take it because that’s a crap load a year

  • @robertopanameno479
    @robertopanameno479 Před 6 lety +1

    Jd Martinez is not worth 30mil/year, teams get screwed for doing these long contracts and the players don't pan out, example Jacoby elsbury who is a bench warmer is getting payed almost as much Stanton.

    • @robertopanameno479
      @robertopanameno479 Před 6 lety

      ShowiestZebra I don't think Stanton is worth what hes making now, but that's the contract the Marlins gave him, he's more than likely not going to always stay in new york, I can see him getting traded to the dodgers in a few years. My point is players are getting overpaid for long-term contracts and it screws the teams over.

      15 at the most. Dave dombrowski is learning from his mistakes and as much as I hate the red sox, i have to commend them for not giving in to ridiculous contract demands. Agents are overvaluing their players and hurting them in the long run.

      The so many players hit homeruns last season is because Manfred has distributed juiced balls in the MLB.Manfred is destroying the game,that world series was a joke Verlander himself said there was something wrong with the balls they were given.
