It's not abandoned. It is privately owned but they leave it open for people to use. Volunteers help with maintaining the place. There used to be a 1940s bread loaf trailer to the left of the shed.
Wonderhussy is a You Tube Einstein. She shares her wonderful adventures of Death Valley and the Mohave, from hot springs to cabins. Her respect for the environment, as well as, her passion for her hobby is most commendable. The only click bait here is she is easy on the eyes. So, if you are a hater, shut the front door...

Nice newspaper find. The front page mentions Watergate and the coming fuel crisis. It reminds me of when I was a kid, sitting in the station wagon and waiting with my parents in a line of cars to buy gas at 5:30 am. That's history!

i lived in vegas from 1990 - 2007, also drove a white 4x4 forerunner and my favorite pastime was leaving town and exploring mother nature. vegas is a wonderful hub for outdoor opportunities; arizona, utah, california and nevada are such beautiful states to explore, camp, hike and of course smoke and drink...

The black stuff you call mining wast is tar used a belt dressing. All the machinery driven by the big flat belts need something sticky to make them grip to the flat faced pulleys.

I remember they had an old shower head nailed to the tree by the water holding pond. Did you check out the out house? If I recall that had some cool murals and a neat paper holder. It has been a few years and things can change rapidly up there now days with the internet.

I did TV commercials for Alan Hale's Lobster Barrel in the 1980s.
OldProVidios Was the Lobster Barrel a chain of restaurants in California?

I tripped on a power cord. The large stage light tipped over, landing in the table. It just missed Alan Hale, who was sitting ar the table. The barn door of the light sliced the edge of the beautiful cake that had been placed in front of Alan. The slice of mostly icing fell into his lap.
I was shaking, the rest of the crew were silent.
Alan slowly took off that captain's hat, looked at me an shouted, "GILLIGAN!"

November 1973 was slighly prior to when the Arab Oil Enbargo occurred. Gas where I lived went from approx. 29 cents/gallon to approx. 55 cents/gallon. Seemed like alot then...
You are my favorite part of the video. I watch these videos of these cabins in the nowhere, and I always wish I was just stupid rich and I could go out there, refurbish them and stock them up. I think it would be fun to just make rounds in the spring and fall and restock each one. But I realize that too could entice the "rats, snakes, and mice" if you know what I mean. I would never want to contribute to the crime in the desert. But I like this cabin. It's a keeper.

I think the hoses on the roof are set up to be heated by the sun and feed the tank.
There's also a propane tank hook-up if you want to fire it up, just add your tank.
