Canon, HDR PQ and why to experiment with HEIFs

  • Canon allows you to shoot in HEIF format and experiment with the new generation of HDR formats (HDR PQ). It's a great option, but one that's easy to overlook - which is a shame.     Sadly. I am not able to open those files on my Samsung phone. Can you watch those files on iphone? Macbook? How about macbook pro XDR dispaly? I also shoot videos in PQ. And it preserves highlights much better. However, i have to recode it from PQ to PQ in davinci so that youtube can recognize HDR. That is weird.

      Hi! Well, yes, opening HEIFs can be really tricky and generally, it is really mostly a tool to capture "real" HDR for viewing on HDR monitors... So its usage is limited - but still, I believe it is a very valuable format which will gain a lot of attention in the future...
