Vasiliev wasn´t young in this video, yet he displays such power and energy. Even being a bravura solo both him and Soloviev don´t lose the point as characters and artists.

I like his prince´s personality, something shine through choreograph and himself. That´s a Prince I would like to wake me up with a kiss.

This is the greatest comment EVER written in describing the essence of this character and what is celebrated in a truly Royal Prince. BRAVO!!!

MrQbenDanny Lilac chooses him for this task not by chance. The Prince should possess the qualities. Aurora needs an equal. But I can only think this makes sense when I see a dancer like Dowell here. I look at him and know he's good and intelligent, sensitive but heroic.

I love V.Vasiliev, for me unsurpassed! Rudy' solo reflects his frenzied style, overwhelmed by frenetically resolved steps...

Dowell and Soloviev are the best male dancers to live

Dowell and Ashton are my choice. Nureyev gives us his trademark tortured dancing, though why the Prince should be so tortured is a mystery to me. Sleeping Beauty is an allegory and the Prince is the epitome of classical virtues, and all that emoting feels wrong. The exaggerated rond de jambes(sp?) look ridiculous. I also like the others, though Vogel is too romantic here.

I blame Rudi for introducing exaggerated movement, and I blame all modern day dancers even more for jumping on the bandwagon without thinking twice. They seem incapable of doing a graceful and elegant rond de jambe, it looks like they aim to touch their nose with their knee.
SB is an allegory but Rudi's take on it isn't, he was incapable of abstraction. I don't mind a novel approach if the chore fits, but this one doesn't. It doesn't fit a Prince, it doesn't tell me what his problem is, and, most important, it doesn't tell me why should Aurora be the solution to all his unspecified woes. It looks like an eclectic classroom exercise made difficult on no purpose :( He was at his best dancing ballets he did not mess with...

I like what Ashton did with the sarabande better than what Rudi did with it. Dowell is wonderful.
Yes, Rudi's solo is a 'mood' variation too though you wouldn't know it from the chore :( It's the music. The chore is step chasing step and going circles... it has no structure. It's exhausting to watch. What does it say about the Prince? That he is hyperactive?
Don't like the Bolshoi's much, it doesn't fit my mental image about Desire.

Real dancers like these are disappearing. Even in imperfection there is art if it is done with all yourself. Now we have a lot of incredible technicians of ballet that do a lot of pirouettes and incredible jumps. But we have no real artists like Yuri Soloviev or Anthony Dowell.

I don't understand the point of comparing these completely disparate pieces. Soloviev and Vasiliev were/are great artists, but what they're dancing has zero to do with the others. Love seeing Dowell at his peak and Rudi's is... well, just a mess.
