Fritz showed a lot of guts and composure.
Over 4 hours for an R1 match, but Fritz showed incredible resolve after an ankle injury early in the 2nd set to clinch the win. What a topsy turvy match 4-6 6-3 3-6 6-2 6-4. FDA was NOT approved by Fritz who broke 7 times including the ENTIRE 4th set. That's ultimately what did it. Imagine not holding serve for an entire set! Fritz also prevailed with better serving, more winners, fewer errors, better groundstrokes, & was way less fatigued during the final two sets. This isn't the Challengers. You're dealing with the Slams, now. Whole different level of tennis. Bravo, USA thanks you!

I’m always surprised that the guys with bigger frames like Medvedev, Zverev or Fritz have such passive game-styles, you’d think with they’re height, leverage and shoulders that they’d really go after the ball but they tend to prefer rallying instead.

2024 is a key year for Fritz. He is 27 soon, but in over 32 major tournaments has only reached as far as the quarters, twice. And a couple of quarter final appearances in over 32 majors does not a star or legend make. No matter what your Instagram followers may say.

I’d like to see him doing well, he seems like a good guy but I can’t see him getting close to winning a major. The other top guys are much more well-rounded, with Taylor there’s so much for them to exploit - his movement, his mentality, his hesitancy to really go after the ball. Hopefully he proves me wrong 🙏🏻
Never understood why the so called highlights show both first and second serves of a double fault.
Maybe it was a pivotal moment in the match where the momentum switched? I dunno
