Just to clear one thing, the 11th form is exclusive to tomioka as he made that form himself and only he can use it. The original water breathing only has 10 forms

Just to clarify, 11th form allows Giyu to move so fast while destroying the attacks from his enemy, normal people can't even see him moving. Also Giyu cannot use it 11th form that oftenly because his blood pressure goes so low everytime he uses it.
Correction, no he's not suddenly faster than light. The technique can only be used whilst standing in place, allowing the user to concentrate their sword slashes to deflect enemy attacks. Which is why it's called "Dead Calm".

Also Remember, only Giyu himself can (or atleast nows how to) perform Dead Calm, the 11th form.
It was confirmed by the author in an extra LN panel that people who see breathing forms do actually see, feel and hear the element, however the elements aren’t actually there. It’s a common misconception the elements aren’t even visible, which they are, they just don’t actually exist. That’s also the reason none of the breathing styles have long ranged attacks (not counting moves used from afar, I mean moves where the user doesn’t even get close)
So how come Rengoku burnt the tissues of the First Lower Moon in the train?

Water breathing: 2nd form improved, lateral water wheel, on the spider mountain we see tanjiro chop down a tree from a range, meaning in the anime the elements might actually exsist (strangely)
I feel like they do exist it’s just more of an aura type thing and that’s why some people who are strong enough or who have special senses can see them. I think this would also explain how mfs can hear and smell things like kindness or justice on a person. Before he was strong enough to actually see auras or whatever it is, characters like tanjiro and zenitsu could still somewhat perceive them because of their special senses

With the breathing I like to think it's less summoning and more they are their but dissappear after the move so that's why they can't just summon water dragons its triggered by that specific form

1. Zenitsu against the spider demon, he actually heard the thunder clap
2. The dragon from tanjiros constant flux actually hits the string
3. During Magen train, rengoku 9th form created a giant explosion which blocked out the vision of tanjiro and the boys with smoke
4. ( in the manga tokito hides in a cloud of mist at the final battle

Well to put in simplier The Water Breathing 11th form Lull is standing still while absorbing all the impacts and strikes. It's like how drop something on water and while it descends under water the motion is geting slower and slower like how water absorbs falling impacts and floats in the surface

If all water forms combine with another style it creates new forms. Fun fact: Insect Breathing is actually it’s own form similar to the original styles Water, Thunder, Fire, Wind, Earth, & Moon. It is derived from Water breathing as far as oxygen is concentrated to the joints & arms for quick flowing attacks. It also uses lighting for speed with the oxygen being focused on the legs with total concentration. Shinobu couldn’t master her arms so she focused it to her feet. At some points it would appear like she’s flying. It explains why her full speed is unmatched without the slayer mark. The Flower form is a form of continuous close range strikes and is physically demanding. It places emphasis on the eyes to dodged most close range techniques.
Lastly, instead of slashing it is a style focused on stabbing. It is also the second fastest style and safer than the Thunder. Which Thunder is Legs, Water is Joints & Arms, Wind air waves, Fire is close range air waves and slashes, & Earth is full body concentration to mainly muscles. Sun full body concentration to the full body causing the body to stiffen to its limits (only one person could master it before Tanjiro & his father). Moon, periodic full body concentration. Allowing the body to rest in between techniques.

Well for the Giyu not being animated with you could argue that when Nezuko regen her legged she regenerated her shoe which was an animation error. That said it's 100% just an special effect as even the Author has already stated it's just for visuals to not only entertain the audience but to give the audience a better idea of how the forms work. The only one's this rule doesn't apply so much to are the new upper moon 6, upper moon 1(due to their demon powers) and that time Tanjiro used Nezuko's blood flame are on his sword.

I've heard a lot of back and forth on whether the breathing elements are visual cues or not. There are a few times where the elemental breathing styles have interacted with objects in the environment.
Or enemy attacks like Yahaba's arrows. I have a headcanon that the visual effects are like an illusion that can be interacted with, with the exception being Sun Breathing, which can actually produce flames.

Dude I am pretty sure the effects are real. The mangaka stated that the demon slayers arent actually manipulating elements but their styles actually do have effects. This explains how most of the mist, wind, water, and insect moves work. Idk who told you the effects arent real.
Well I think his logic on this comes from the manga and demon slayer movie in rengokus fight with akaza upper moon 3 because if rengoku was actually generating flames like he does with his different forms then akaza would be getting burnt and his clothes would be incinerated

I just realized that all the breathing forms incorporate something from Sun Breathing, Water Breathing is the principles behind Sun Breathing’s user.
You find similarities, and then (SPOILER)
Constant Flux is the secret to the final form of Sun Breathing. (Ascending in power as you continue the motions.) All of the forms have some similarities to Sun Breathing’s forms and the ones that don’t like Form 5 are meant to teach the user something (like what Tanjiro learned so he could beat Akaza).
It’s literally something made to teach the next Sun Breathing user.
I’m pretty sure the effects are fake but the user can see them because the breathing they use is gonna make them feel high but that’s just a theory

That’s the anime’s fault showing Kyojuro blocked air type with only one swing. While in the manga Kyojuro swings his sword multiple time to block those shockwaves.
If the elements were real then the air type would be covered with Rengoku's flames and burn him
Some theory suggest when he breaths in and out while using the the booming flame undulation some people say the air he realeses blocks akaza Shockwave firing towards him plus the elements effects aren't real it was confirmed by the auther because it would be confusing as to why this characters have supernatural powers with them with no explanation as to where this powers came from plus you can't just say it's because when they breath they summon water and fire so your saying if I breath like a demon slayer I would summon water in my hands
I mean not a drop of water can be it disappear after being used lol. But I’d like to think it’s there cause makes fight cooler and also make sense cause they are facing abnormal enemies. Imagine if demons didn’t really have those powers but it’s put to make their slashes and things make sense. How stop air blast with sword or cut supernaturally strong strings and webs that can brake steel . It’s just stupid. But since can choose to think it’s real makes everyone happy while using it as a art form or the technique is also good.

The people who want the effects to be just straight magic have no media literacy and don’t understand stylization lmao. Yeah In the anime sometimes it looks illogical compared to the manga but that’s just STYLIZATION LOL it’s about looking cool Demon Slayer isn’t a high concept hard to understand genius property. If it’s just magic it totally defeats the theme of defeating an inhuman threat by working hard and excelling by human means.

Kokushibo merged his demon art with his sword so it isn't a breathing btw the visual can be' his bda,
For the other breathings we never see for exemple water drops or anything on the ground after a fight, or the forest would be' flooded after Giyu 11 form.
For Sanemi wind well is just as every anime shockwaves and air slashed bit instead of just white is mixed with a bit of green

@@mr.intruder1536 My thoughts have changed over a year, but first season really didn't do well to make it known it was just swordsmanship and visualization. It's much more clear now. Other is that it could've taken the route where the humans need to train and have the determination to learn these skills. Where as demons took the cop-out to gain power just by eating other people.

I think it's kinda weird how the elements aren't really there. Of course, it makes sense for some of them, like the 11th form of water. Because Giyu can't really summon a whole tide of water.
But it's weird because Zenitsu literally leaves marks on the floor when he charges, and there's an actual "thunder clap" noise when he does.
I think the elements should definetly be real, because it's also a good way to show proficiency. Like Murata is also a water user, but you can't really see the water when he uses the forms because he's bad at it.
The whole point of this series is that normal humans have to fight demons that have supernatural powers with nothing but their skill and determination. It would be lose all impact if humans had same supernatural powers as demons.

Thunder breathing is focusing on pure speed so fast that it sounds like thunder or lightning (and the author straight up said that the effects aren’t real) the only ones that are real is the effects of the demons who use breath styles because they infused the blood demon art in them

@Merlin is that obvious or is tanjiro teaching himself through ancestral memories... we cannot assume something just because one believes it to be obvious, the books mention neither so the question is, how is he able to pick up all these types of breathing styles with zero knowledge of the moves. The latest episode points to his ancestral roots as he combines to breathing styles
@Merlin ps, urokodaki only trained his bod and, explained breathing technique. Tanjiro then trained abit with former students and possibly learned the moves from them but again it was never shown nor spoken about. Shortly after slicing the boulder, tanjiro is sent to the exam and has already picked up 4 water breathing moves

The effects are real for example when zenitsu do the thunder breathing thr spider demon stated that the ground was vibrating (mind you zenitsu was standing still). Or when rengoku used his breathing accelerate himself to speed were he was faster than a car. Or when inosuke was slicing the lower 1 demon tentacles, his sword clear didn't make it through but was able to cut it clean off but the visual was shown going going through the entire tentacles. Or when tanjiro used clear blue sky his attack hit some tentacles that were meters away from his swords impact
