hello Michael, ive just come across you channel and it has been very helpful. I recently bought a home and in it was an old safe with this locking Menckenism in it a s&g 6730. Fortunately for me the safe was open but locked, I was able to figure out the combination by watching the plates as i spun the dial. In the process of doing this I removed the lever and spring to get a better view of when the wheels were aligned properly. When I put it all back together I realized the lever was not being pulled down anymore by the spring (it was stuck up) I was able to get it to work by just barely loosening the screw that holds it in place. My question...is that the proper way to install that screw, not tightening it all the way down? Thank you in advance if you are willing to answer that for me i dont want to put it all back together and have that screw become to loose
Michael do you have a instructional video on finding the existing combination on a Sergeant ang Greenleaf series 300 lock? Door on the safe is unlocked
I have a Liberty safe,.. it has worked flawless for years,...the combination got compromised/ stolen from my father. Money was stolen from my safe,.. I bought a key and changed it,... then it worked for a year I went on vacation and came home and it would not open. After 3 months it opened. I figure,...they beat on it with a rubber hammer trying to open it with the old combination? I tried putting on 2 more Ebay New locks in one box there was a Amazon tag? One when trying to set the combination,.... wouldn't turn a complete revolution? The other just did not set and it did not turn smooth,... it was binding? But both locks when putting in the 4 screws was a tight binding fit? So I put the old one back on and it spins like ball bearings,... it just don't work.
i iost my combination for my group 2 lock , its a Gardex safe. Fortunately my door is open but in the locked position . is it possible to find my combination by turning the dial because i can see where my wheels are lining up ?
As safe as houses mate, seriously. The number of people outside the locksmithing community who can manipulate one of these things open is vanishingly small. Just make sure it is serviced regularly and that you don't try to change the combination yourself and mess it up, and it'll work like a dream.
Thank you for the clear, concise explanations of safe lock operation. Another fine episode.
Good demonstration Michael looking forward to the next one.
These videos are fantastic!

We can thank James Sargent for the lever/fence design patented in 1866.

so I just watched episode 91 and now 102 is playing. How do I get the whole list in sequence?
Where is the spring hiding? the lever in not falling down at all when the all 3 wheels are at the same place.

Excellent Zachary - a million thanks. Amended.
I just bought a Summit Safe with the S&G 2 lock and am curious about the security.
