We need more videos like this, with engineers and designers who are standing behind these awesome products 👍

Interesting talk. I love hearing the reasoning behind a product design.
    Thanks.

Would you comment on the issue of the overheat issue that renders the stove useless? The bits of lead that melt and clog the gas line when it gets “too warm”.

I've used this stove hundreds of times and it still runs since I bought it back 10 years ago or so. Would you comment on some details on how you got the gas line clogged?

The first stove i had, used couple of times in the minus C and it works. Also in the mountains of Spain in the early spring and having the storm rests coming up from the gulf of Mexico didnt stop this little devil. And its also nice to be the first one to have ones coffee ready 😅👌

I have every MSR stove that was offered for sale, beginning with the #9, and I love them all. My most favorite, for all the bases it covers, is the MSR X-GK EX. But, when we really want to cook something delicate and more gourmet-like, we go with the MSR Universal, OR the MSR Reactor, combined with the Windburner (remote canister) stove. That duo can do it all, from quick boiling, to actual cooking, and simmering! The Windburner simmers very well, and we can even get the Reactor to simmer, too, and cooked sausages and even oatmeal on that stove. Between the two, there is little you cannot cook up when camping. By the way, I once tested the Windburner (Windboiler, original name) against a JetBoil, and the MSR stove blew the JB away in every single facet of the testing!! I stopped using the JB at that time, and have never fired it up since then. The MSR stoves? They get the nod every single time, unless I am wanting to take some of the old classic, brass kerosene stoves from Optimus, Primus, Radius, et.al.. Otherwise, it's MSR all the way!

      You seem really knowledgeable.
Can you help me with deciding if the msr whisper light is a better choice over the xgk? On paper the have almost identical boil times and fuel usage. Only difference is the xgk is slightly heavier.
Use case. Winter melting lots of snow for all meals and water. Temps around -5c - -35c

@@calvinloney5996 , Thanks for giving me a shout, and for your kind words. As for using one of these stoves for melting snow, for water, I'd take the X-GK (properly maintained!), over the Whisperlite. The WPL is a nice little stove, but not designed to burn multiple fuels, whereas the X-GK can offer you strong, reliable performance, up high, and in deep cold. It will need a windscreen such as the one it came with, or course, and it's best to insulate the stove and fuel from the cold ground. I would use Coleman Fuel, or even better, Water White, K-1 deodorized Kerosene. With Coleman Fuel, you can prime the stove with it's own fuel. With Kerosene, though you "can" do the same, following MSR's instructions, using some Methylated Spirits (Alcohol stove fuel) is FAR cleaner, and works a treat! If you prime with Kerosene, the stove will be a smoky, sooty, and nasty mess, If using Kerosene, I always have a small, leak-proof bottle of Meths, for priming. The stove will burn hot and with a strong blue flame! Just my own way of doing it, and I'm sure others will chime in with their own methods. I'd suggest doing some testing to get used to the stove, no matter which you choose. And, if you will be camping up hit for a while be sure to take spare O-rings and a maintenance kit for whichever stove you take. I hope that helps, and good luck on your decision, and your adventures! God Bless!

Any ideas or plans on involving the burner being locked into the pot with a sleeve that the gas canister fits into? the whole thing acting as one solid unit? only the canister being switched out? Very interested in this design! any ideas?

Could MSR develop a Guardian water purifier that is half the size of the Guardian and half the price !! A mini guardian but with the same protection..

I got this. Used it a few times, and now it produces only a blue flame that blows off just looking at it. Very expensive, and stopped working after light use a few times, boiling water. Not worth the money at all. I tried to contact MSR from europe, impossible.
