I never heard of her before this moment and I fell in love with her immediately. How extraordinarily generous of her to share so openly her life through her experience with haute couture. Her gratitude and lack of affect only enhance her natural beauty and grace. I am so happy I came across this documentary. I won't soon forget her.

Betsy is extraordinary and I love her, but hearing her say that the work is not as good nowadays, I do think she hasn’t really kept up with contemporary Haute Couture...
It was different before, for sure, because times change, but the way Haute Couture is made today is just as exquisite as it was before. It’s purpose has changed a little, but at least Haute Couture as the highest level of clothes hasn’t lost a single bit of its dignity and it is still a privilege reserved for very few people, particularly in the context of mass produces clothes.
When Haute Couture is produced just for the likes and shares on social media, then it’s no good.
Haute Couture is clothing, first and foremost and contemporary couture still produces extraordinary garments for women who can appreciate them.

You are so right. Haute Couture is still largely made by hand, and exquisitely made. I think she's actually referring (perhaps unknowingly) to her pre "social media," "reality tv" era in general, where the average person appreciated good taste. Overall, (couture or not) people on the street dressed much better back then. Look at NYC street photos in the 1950s compared to now.

She spent her whole life buying expensive clothes and wearing them. What a waste of a life. She wasn't a designer, a muse, an artist, a philanthropist, activist. She did nothing with her privilege. She shopped.

Betsey Bloomingdale had beautifully made, expensive clothes, but let's be honest - she looked very ordinary in them. Compared to ladies like Nan Kempner, Jackie Kennedy, Princess Grace, Audrey Hepburn, etc... who could wear a sack and still look chic.
