My overview end experience with my T7 from kinda working to running like a champ! If you are a "Tommy is the devil" or "Tommy is a god", move along please. Neither is true.
I see that you've said you're just a "tinkerer." But bro, you're correctly diagnosing every issue on a nearly unobtainable gun lol. Then, you're replacing and fabricating working parts for most modern pdw on the planet 😂😂 Bravo brother lol. Give yourself some credit.
Fascinating video! I respect your willingness to work out issues on your own and learn about the platform. Your hard work paid off because now you’re on of the few Americans with a working mp7!
It's a brand new gun made from scratch by one dude. You can't expect something like this to not have teething pains upon release, it's completely unreasonable. As long as Tommy is fixing the guns, that's what's important.
@@mountedpatrolman no I think if you’re charging someone 3500 dollars you should be releasing a product that works. He clearly wasn’t ready to bring these to the market. He failed big time.
@@Conan361 If you're talking about a big company like Sig, Colt or even PSA, that's a realistic expectation. However, this one dude is building a gun everyone and their brother has been lusting for, for decades. It's just him in his small shop, there is no massive infrastructure for him to run full cycle of life testing on these. Most people went into this knowing that they would be test dummies to iron the kinks out. It was the same way with his own G36 versions. Tommy has always taken care of problems with his guns, there's no reason not to believe that he will get everything ironed out and working, in fact most of the people I've seen had guns that were broken now has them up and running. People need to be happy someone is making an unobtanium gun, and if you don't want to deal with initial problems just wait to buy the gun, or you can just send yours back till they get fixed, there will be a few hundred people that would happily take it. Tommy may have a short fuse and rub people the wrong way, but he's always stood behind his product and made things right.
@@mountedpatrolman exactly. I don’t know if I’ll buy one but you gotta cut him some slack. He’s doing something that no one else has done. Give him time, he is still working on the t7 and sorting out the issues. Very soon we’ll have an extremely dependable clone that is actually obtainable. Cut him some slack, if you don’t want to buy one until the issues are sorted out then don’t. So tired of the whining and moaning from people
I could have waited a few days for the replacement one to arrive but had the means to make one. Agreed it would have been nice to not have any issues but am just glad it was fixable.
Outstanding review. Even more impressive that you diagnosed and addressed each issue to the point of manufacturing or adjusting existing parts for each malfunction. Your video is a template for anyone who has gotten a T7 and is having the same issue. Well done!
Just saw your post over on the forum. Not some weird stalker but I’m following this whole thing as closely as possible. I have over 2k in accessories and plan on buying this firearm eventually. Hopefully maybe a gen 2. I’m no where near as handy as you but the more info I have in case of issues, I’ll know the right people to ask or contact for help. Great video and I’m a new subscriber
This video needed to be posted, great job being thorough and not just making another it doesn’t work video. A lot of work, but I understand these are new to the market and with Tommy helping and standing behind the product I would not hesitate to buy one.
Thanks. I really don't have a dog in this fight either way. I just wanted an MP7 at home lol. I was sick of seeing the "Tommy is the Devil" as much as the "Tommy is a God so don't dare criticize anything" comments. One "dogstar" POS on the forums was particularly an A-Hole but he seems to have been knocked down a notch.
So, essentially everything that could've failed, did. And if it wasn't for you essentially being a gunsmith and having that knowledge, this gun would most likely still remain unusable. A $3500 gun before taxes with this many issues, no thanks. I'll pass all day long.
Thanks. I felt it was a bit too much "talking head" and not the dynamic, over produced clicky title but just wanted to give a fair accounting of my experience.
Sounds like you rebuilt the entirety of the internals. Lol. Still going with this is a $3000 paperweight to anyone less mechanically inclined than you.
Tom was great when I got my TG36K. Very quick to respond. Is it me or does it seem like when these first came out that all around it wasn't common knowledge that the gas could be adjusted?
@techspy2008 any advice on removing the piston? Also have you given any thought to making another piston, or one of the other custom parts for someone interested in buying them?
Every video I've seen is people getting it and it fails then sending it back to Tommy who says it works fine before sending it out with no work done and it still functions like shit.
I know there are at least a couple that came back still with issues but I think the majority came back fixed. Still, it would have been nice to not have to send them back in the first place.
@@techspy2008 I've yet too see the majority come back 100% functional. Even the ones that work most of the time but fail every fourth mag or so it's ridiculous for a $3500 gun

Great review pretty damn objective and thats missing from youtube reviews. Love what Tommy does and think its cool service but everyone needs to remember buying a 1st gen anything or preordering anything youre asking for issues and it is not an HK no matter how much you pay. I think honestly HK USA should partner with him and let him run a "special products" division like Andreas Preuninger at Porsche who runs their GT division. They could make money hand over fist and keep the HK fans happy everyone would win.
Thanks. Not really sure what HK is thinking on this. They prob don't care about the relativly small $ it would produce. But they did bring back the SL8 so...
I've never seen someone tinker with their guns issues to such an extent. What do you or what did you do for a living? I hope to someday have the knowledge and means to be as capable as you've shown yourself to be. Great work on getting the T7 to work and thanks for taking us through your process.
Hey question for you, are you noticing any kind of cratering on your primers? I have seen it on multiple T7’s and am trying to collect info to see if theres a tolerance issue on the bolts tommy is using. I know you cant really respond with pictures here, but i am interested to see how many of them do. Its good to see these guns running, but the normal user doesnt have the ability to machine their own parts, if the piston is mushrooming, it sounds like it wasnt hardened properly to withstand that.
The work that you've done is really excellent work. In a perfect world, these modifications would not have needed to be done on a gun that is close to 5-6K. I've had to do finish work on some PSA uppers, but it's easier to not be mad about some machine cleanup when it's a 180 dollar upper.
I feel like your optic solution is really bad. The reticle height on that optic is about two of your hand widths above the bore. That type of mounting solution is meant for weapons like the m4 where their is not much rail height over bore, not the mp7 where the barrel is way far away from the rail
I’ve always wanted an mp7 and a honey badger I own a honey badger now it’s the highest quality firearm I’ve ever handled and it runs flawlessly, the mp7 will never come to the market I’ll never own it, not buying a clone that doesn’t work and I’m not rich I’m not forking over an arm and a leg for the ammo that’s almost unobtanium psa is coming out with the x5.7 I’ll probably snag one of those although overpriced 5.7 can actually be found and is pretty readily available where I’m at what a shame, I might consider the t7 10 years down the road when and if they fix it and only if ammo starts to exist for it
I was actually suprised at how available the 4.6 ammo is. I have bought some that was less than 5.7. Still, both are a cool round and I may add a PS90 to the collection soon.
Sounds like the guy needs to have a serious conversation with his BCG oem. I'd be fucking pissed if this happened as a customer and as a person trying to sell a product that relies on OEM parts
Whoa GT is contacting u. I saw this video when it first came out and it’s a damn shame this guy had to fabricate his own parts. Pretty sure I saw him on the HK forum as well. Maybe everyone should just send their t7s to this guy for the repairs
My take, as a tinkerer type, is that this is a perfect product for the OG HK collector crowd from the 90's and 00's (and I presume are still out there today) used to building clone-correct H&K stuff from parts kits and an assortment of US made compliance parts, and who are used to paying an absolute fortune for those parts from various random sources in order to eventually assemble something remotely close to original spec. For them buying the T7 is worth it just for the polymer receiver, and a few other parts. The fact it ostensibly is a complete gun is bonus. I been there, done that, with an SL8-G36 conversion and a HK-91 build. For that demographic, this is an excellent product in that it supplies all the core parts including the unobtanium parts like the polymer receiver and so-on. To that crowd, if they could spend $4000 to get a stripped semi-auto MP7 receiver from H&K, they would without hesitation. For them, months of fiddling to get it to work is fine, the main goal is to support Tommy as he made the investments and spent the time to bring that community access to these parts. They will then be able to, as a community, work with their own tools, Tommy, and other gunsmiths, and figure out the problems; until, as a community, they all have working little MP7s. That has got to be entirely the motive here. Selling to people outside that circle helps to expand the circle (and fund things of course) but Tommy likely wasn't aiming his launch and support network at the non-HK crowd who expect everything to just be ready-for-war quality out of the gate. This was for the builder crowd Tommy came from, where they were sending hm rifles that cost $2000 plus parts kits that would cost $2000 and be willing to wait months for those to be turned into some hybrid at a cost of over $1000 for the service. There are people with disposable income who wanted unobtanium, and are willing to wait however long it takes for it.
Since the fixes posted in this video I haven't had a single malfunction. I run mag after mag with no issue. So much so it gets too hot to handle and I have to let it cool down for awhile.
The sad part is he’s probably going to show you shooting it and say “see I told you they work fine” I’ll never buy his stuff. I’ll stick with my b&t tp9 it’s ran flawlessly since day one.
