Back when Eric was the cool, popular older brother.
I have to say that the goofball later on became my favorite character though.
i think Eric was cool back then Becuz that how Cory saw him , then as he got older, she starter see his brother, how he actually is.
Chris Jarma How can Cory's perspective affect how we watched Eric behaved usually. We as an audience saw him being a cool guy who acted Normal around even when Cory wasn't around and then suddenly from season 3 he started getting a little bit dumber as time passed.

When I first started wating this show thats what I thought and because of that I kept getting shawn and eric mixed up because they looked so similar with the haircuts. I hadn't got the faces memorized so i kept getting confused who was who.
I definitely remember that being the style, a lot of older guys had it in my school when I was in kindergarten haha (k-12 school)

No show will ever top this one. They tackled real issues and depicted real families. They gave us all the mentor we would need from the start of the show, onward: Mr. Feeny. It taught us to listen to reason when things go wrong, ask for help when you need it, look beyond yourself and try to see the whole picture, and to understand that not everything is going to be perfect. All you can do is try your best and be there for someone else.
loodiamexican i definitely had my own Mr. Feeny type teacher, he was the toughest I ever had and I’ve always been thankful. This was my all time favorite show, it really makes me miss the 90’s.
At 6:22 when Eric starts to sing "Amazing Grace" 🙃😂 He's one of my favourite characters from the show! 🌍 so funny.

Derek Mathews same, honestly. I know it’s an unpopular opinion but I liked Eric way better in the earlier seasons before he became the crazy goofy dimwit. Even though Will Friedle nailed it, I just didn’t find Eric that funny later on. It seemed like the writers were trying too hard.
Eric is one of the best tv charecters I hate when people say he got dumber he showed even in the last season he was very bright he's the one that saved their friendships when it almost ended he didn't get dumber he just got goofier and he's senator on gmw that takes brains

Eric was so much better in seasons 1-2 where he was an ok student but had some depth. Later he became basically a cartoon character with no depth.
Blame the writers for that more than anything. They all got kind of dumber as the show went, with Cory especially getting very neurotic towards the end.

I loved the show through the middle seasons, but stopped watching the last seasons because I didn’t find the over-acting funny. It became too over the top for me.

Sorry, I wasn't old enough to watch this show when this came out. I only know Will Friedle when Kim Possible came out and that's how I got to know his other projects. Too bad he rarely acts on screen. Damn panic attacks.
In a recent interview, Will said he was the first choice to be Eric but he got sick on the day they were filming the pilot so the producers decided to hire their second choice but the actor was too short and was almost the same height as Ben Savage so they decided to wait till he got better. Could the other guy have been Jason Marsden??

All of the Matthews children changed so much over the years.
Yeah they did. Even Cory changed. Cory was so into sports in the first season. At the end he played basketball with his dad once in a while but was never talking about sports like he did as a child. It’s like he completely lost interest after a while.

Wish they would of kept him this way and then showed growth as he progressed. His dumb character did make some of the later season funny but I still missed this Eric.

personally season 1 and 2 are my least favorite Erics. Season 3-6 were my favorites, by 7 he became so stupid it hurt
I totally agree. Season 3-6 Eric was the best. Long hair and pretty dumb but a good heart. Season 7 was a COMPLETE moron. Though he still had some funny moments still.
