- I'm officially in my recap era lol. In between Netflix dating dramas, I decided to cleanse my palate and binge season two of Abbott Elementary after not watching it since it premiered (I had my reasons!!). What I discovered was that while it wasn't the funniest show I'd ever seen (or am currently watching)...it is the best one.

Hello! You may hear some loud noises in the background at a point in this video, and that's because Sebastian (my dog) was playing Ultimate Puppy Warrior by himself in the background...he eventually calmed down though so you may not notice his banging and clapping at all! For me what I think what sets Abbott apart is that they have black actors who aren’t playing caricatures of blackness or displaying trauma porn. Their stories don’t revolve around the oppression of white people. They are whole people with whole lives and multi-dimensional personalities. And that’s something we haven’t had since the 90s. They haven’t let a full cast of brown women and men play feel-good drama since the 90s

Yes! I've gotten so tired of black media currently doing all of this. So to see abbot do something that feels organic in a way is amazing
I think Abbott Elementary's humor is subtle but very funny to me, from the janitor's outlandish one-liners to Greg's facial expressions alone 😂
Compared to like a laugh out loud comedy sometimes I don’t catch the jokes until later and chuckle

Abbott Elem is a very good show that has me cracking up every time- It's the quirkiness & awkwardness of Janine, the ineptness but confidence of Ava, etc Overall, the characters in general mesh without meshing as well. I enjoy it each time I watch.
Abott Elementary is every day events dramatized. I like the fact she didn’t jump into a relationship Gregory someone she works with. It’s good TV I think this show will have many seasons.

It’s wholesome and there’s not alot of shows today that are wholesome .
I know ppl want Jeanine &. Gregory to be together but i don’t think they’ll get together until maybe the 3rd/4th season
I find Abbot hilarious but it could because I don't have a background in teaching. I agree it is a feel good show and that is something we're missing in TV. I can't remember a time when I could put on a show that everyone could watch and get something from it.

Abbott Elementary is like Bob's Burgers for me. Not always funny but really nice and wholesome. A few lessons dropped in there, a few aaaaw moments and funny characters.

Fun fact: I’m a Philly elementary teacher and one of my students is cousins with Quinta, and cuz of this we got to see that student in the season finale!!! That was the coolest thing ever and also very surreal as if this show ain’t accurate enough already lol sometimes so accurate it hurts…haha..ha…*laughs in teacher burnout*
I love Abbott because it’s a show I can enjoy and relax. I love that it’s not over the top and grounded in reality. Ever character reminds me of a teacher I once had.

Yes! Definitely recommend Grand Crew I just realized season 2 was out and was not alot of promo for it 😢 every show I like gets cancelled so I’m rooting for it and Abbott

Abbott Elementary is just sooooooo good! The characters are tangible and fresh. The show provides great lessons without feeling pThe movement of the characters feel practical and realistic and there are elements in each show that just make me smile and laugh out loud. Nothing else on TV impacts me as much. I love, love, LOVE Abbott Elementary!
I adore Abbott Elementary, and I also don't always laugh out loud (sometimes I do), but some of the jokes are very witty. I love the little one-liners. What resonates with me the most are the characters, and I'm a sucker for the slow burn dynamic of Jeanine and Gregory.
Like that line Ava had about the boy with the high waters??!! I died on that one... but then you also got to see Ava keeping extra clothes in her desk for kids that got picked on which made me like her sooooo much.. I love this show!

Abbott Elementary is a very thoughtful and relatable show. Everyone who has matriculated through or taught in a public school instantly recognizes the scenarios displayed in the show.
The last show that made me laugh out loud was the first season on “South Side”. It made my mama laugh out loud too.

I LOVE Abbott. I do laugh out loud at Ava’s ridiculousness because she has the best lines. I’ve seen every episode at least 3-4 times because it is now the show I put on to take a nap, do work, or just to have something feel-good playing in the background.
12:43 I got so scared cuz I am a Black Ms. Frizzle and some people love it, some people find it annoying. Today it was raining so I wore my rainy cloud earrings and made a rain themed outfit. So sometimes I get judged by my colorful, creative outfits. Thankfully I had the best mentor teacher who told me “You’re not weird. You’re a fashionista to me.” ❤️🥺
I actually love it. It's not my style per say (I was very utilitarian) but I've known a couple Black Ms. Frizzle's and you can feel their energy. Their clothing reflects their joy in the workplace.
I'd 100% agree that Abbott isn't laugh out loud like The Office. But I stuck with it because it's so endearing. It brings a sweetness to my week. I thought I was getting a black Jim n Pam but their chemistry was missing for S1 and half of S2. But by the end of S2 I'm like Oooooooooooooo! I'm here for it! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

It’s definitely a feel good show. Mrs. Howard reminds me so much of my mom. It’s wild to see honestly. Mannerisms, style, and care. She and Ava are my favorite characters. I agree, it’s not a LOL show but man I feel warm after watching it. Thanks for sharing.

I love Abbot, it's funny and I enjoy the different characters and storylines.
I actually liked some of Janine's outfits😄 Not her shoes though and also not a big fan of her hair style. But I loved the hair styles of the kids at Abbott, all those afro's and puffs I think it is very cute. It's a great show and can't wit for the next season.

How you described Jury Duty reminds me of the reality show from early 2000s called The Joe Schmo Show. A “regular Joe” who is placed with a bunch of actors to compete in a fake reality show competition. Look at YT vids about it, it was something else…Kristen Wiig from SNL played a “therapist” on it. Joe ended up being a super sweet and genuine guy.
Regarding Abbott Elementary, it is definitely a feel good show for me. It’s not rolling down the aisle hilarious. It’s cozy, realistic and relatable on multiple levels. Great video!

I needed this today; loved your review! I find Abbott very funny, agree season 2 wasn't as funny as the 1st but they took risks and we got to know the characters more. I looked forward to each episode and I hope for as long as the actors/writers/network agree, this show sees the longevity that we all deserve.
Thank you so much for your review! Because I thought I was so weird thinking that the show is not really funny, especially when you compare to other mockumentaries shows like the office. But you’re so right, it’s a great show for all of the reasons that you pointed out! Whenever I’m sitting and watching a show, waiting for it to be funny, I leave, bored and disappointed. But whenever I just allow myself to take in the show as a whole, it really is fun to watch! We need more Ava, though. She’s where I get the most laughs!

I first learned of this show because of your initial video; my MS daughters and I watch together, and we ❤!
Although, I a absolutely love the show, I did not find it laugh out loud funny either...which was fine by me cause every show doesn't have to be funny/funny for me. However, I actually did find it funny after I started rewatching the episodes. A lot fo the jokes are so fast that I miss them the first time around.

Best on TV? Idk if it’s that but I love the show. I think the cast is dope and they all have chemistry and their characters play well off each other and I’m super proud of Quinta. But you’re right it’s all the little things that work. Still I would love to see Quinta push some absurd comedy. I mean, we know she can. She’s done it before in stand up and on buzzfeed.

Didn't finish the video yet but speaking of Jury Duty, which I've never seen, this premise sounds very similar to a reality show years ago from Spike TV that YTber T1J talked about a year ago called The Joe Schmo Show, which ive also never seen. 😅Hope there isn't a lawsuit!

I definitely enjoy the simplicity and lightheartedness that Abbott Elementary brings. Leave the stressful, trauma porn to the HBO and Showtime networks lol.
I laughed out loud so hard multiple times, had to pause the episode multiple times to end laughing until I could watch again. But Yeah I Still agree with the strong points.

I just couldn't get into Abbot Elementary. I tried twice 😭😭
I would like to agree. The first season had me loving it in droves. I couldn't get enough. But after the end of the second season, everyone is too much of caricature. The characters aren't evolving in ways out of their box. Gregory is too hesitant, Janine is a character that doesn't really know how to speak in ways that are important to her, Jacob is continuing to be a self confidence mess, and Ava is still the same comedy relief. Just my thoughts. Love the subject of the show. It's incredibly important in this day and age of education privatization. I want it to be different but that's the nature of paying attention to anything. You can't always get what you want. I'll still give it more of a chance.

Chile, get thyself to ABC On Demand channel ASAP! The last time I consistently watched a sitcom was probably in the mid 90s. They just are not funny to me. Abbott, however, is a bird of a different kind. It does make me laugh out loud and keeps me smiling thinking about the episode well after it goes off. Dare I say, it makes me happy.
