Can You Beat the Pit of 100 Trials Without Mario?

- Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door expanded a lot on the partner mechanics from the first game- so much in fact, that partners can actually hold their own! Last time, I tackled the entire main story without using Mario in battle, and this time I wanted to try my hand at the Pit of 100 Trials and Bonetail using only Goombella, Koops, Flurrie, Yoshi, Vivian, Bobbery, and Ms Mowz!

Mario took 4 damage instead of 5 because of the P-Down D-Up badge, not the Defend command. That badge blocks piercing damage, and it's the only thing that does.

So that badge isn’t actually defense but giving -1 attack to anything attacking the user? That’s literally the only thing I can think of where this makes sense

Floors 91-99 are notorious for having multiple Amazee Dayzees in a single fight, and yet you avoided not having to fight a single one. Lucky Day badge working magic in the background even not being equipped.

I love how last time it was Mario too scared to do it and now going into the pit, he would probably have more courage so the first strike rule really works
It only just hit me that adding the Luigi Costume badge would have been perfect. Since he goes around bragging about his accomplishments, despite it being obvious that it's his partners that are accomplishing everything

My head cannon for this and the prequal video is that paper Mario, (After the events of 64) was effected badly mentally (Maybe PTSD?) due to his near death at the start and facing Bowser the second time (The guy that nearly killed him after the first fight) Who mind you had the literal power of a god due to having stolen the star rod. After that adventure Mario began to fully develop the symptoms of whatever he had and the personality change along side that. In this adventure you see mario Heavily changed from his pre-64 personality to this new one where he is more scared then luigi who had become braver.
Thousand Year Door except healing is banned. You can only heal by leveling up and the occasional free cutscene heals in the game.
One Challenge i would love to see is mogul mario, basically youd need a mod that makes all your fp moves use coins instead. it would be busted if you go with a 1 to 1 conversion. but if you go with 1 to 2 or even 3 it could be a real challenge.
Does earned(? idk) FP remain as FP or is that converted to coins 🤔
@@ParasocialCatgirl it stays as fp, dropped flowers and items still give you fp. but any non standart ability just costs coins, making fp essentially a decoration on the UI.

I love this game I remember when I was younger. My dad went out of his way to get a game cube and participate in a auction just to get this game for me. Because of that I love this game. Sadly I lost it so I was so sad but when I heard the remake, I was so happy I could play this game again take me back to my childhood. I’m also happy that there are spiritual successors like bug fables out there, but I can’t wait to come back to the thousand of your door and relive my childhood.

Love your content, the editing keeps improving heaps!! Flurrie as your only partner for infinite pit? Or an action commands only run, with multiple unsimplifiers and an all or nothing? Partners are unaffected by that, though. Maybe something like: mario&friends hate badges and items, and refuse to use either.

This could work with the whole game, the pit, or the endless pit: No direct attacks. Only items, super guards, and special moves.

I could see bringle doing a version of this where he could look at the enemy layout he gets for each battle but then has to put on the blindfold before he can play it

I'm pretty sure "unblockable" attacks like Bonetail's bite can still be regular guarded; just not super guarded
12:02 I think the reason why the game lagged so hard was because there's no normal instance where all enemies would have a status effect on them, which could be making the memory file struggle to remember the status of each individual enemy.
Have not watched the video yet but damn, this seems like an extreme challenge
I swear I remember there being some lore about how Yoshi can eat things much bigger than him but the wiki just says... that he can eat things much bigger than him.

Hey dude, I'm an ex CZcamsr here. Your content is seriously up there with the stuff wayyy bigger channels put out. You're seriously underrated ! When the new remake comes out you'll definitely profit from TTYD. Just keep it going, keep making things interesting and get those thumbnails popping out, that's the biggest bit of advice I have!
Competition is hard because of the amount of channels that make this, but if you keep it the algorithm will bless you. I'll be following your progress :')

It's kinda weird for people to say Superguard makes it "skill based, not strategy based", as if timed hits weren't already skill based. That's not to say it's a particularly high skill level, but still...
I imagine their point is that timed hits, while very helpful, aren’t the end of the fight once mastered, and then there’s superguards, where once you master it you just don’t lose like ever

How about a TTYD challenge run where you can only act on even numbered turns? (On odd numbered turns you can only defend)
Even turn is actually a thing already, where you can only attack and guard/superguard on even turns and can only defend or appeal (and can't guard or superguard) on odd turns, it's a great one too!

Is there a mod for this game that disables star points in the pit so that you don't level up? (don't restore health and fp on level up)
That would seem like an interesting challenge as you would be completely dependent on items to restore hp and fp

One challenge idea I had was Super Paper Mario Pacifist run (you can only do damage to required bosses)

Since you're really good at super guards, you should swap keybinds- I mean flip your controller- so that you are playing the game where the left side of the controller is being played with your right hand, and vice versa. No items, controller backwards!

HOE thank you so much for reverting to this format. I really loved your content and channel but I was afraid it was just gonna turn into a let’s play channel with background clicking noises and drawn out reaction faces to bad rng.
