- One of my favourite tools is the Colour Shaper. In this video I show you how I use it to build beautiful layers of transparent and opaque layers into your painting surface. It's great for creating sharp edges along with gorgeous 'accidental' marks and depth into an abstract painting. Once you know how, this will become one of your favourite tools too. It's easy... watch and see.

Thanks, Judy, this was really good as I have color shapers but never really know how to use them. 😃 And I loved the newsletter you sent. So true how the art world has changed lately.
Thank you Judy, this is very inspirational to me.
Beautiful. Thanks for the demonstration!
Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much for this wonderful introduction! I just became curious about the use of a color shaper and this was very helpful.
Glad it was helpful!
Great demo- love the looseness of the effect. Loose is good, enabling happy accidents without forcing things.
Keeeeep sharing.
So much to learn from this video. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Inspirational!
My pleasure!

Thank you now I’m going to go play !

Ooh wow. I’ve been getting into the squeegee method & palette knife painting, & I actually just saw a few of these at the store today (I’ve always just known them as silicone brushes, unless there’s some distinction between the two categories I’m not aware of), but didn’t know anything about how to properly use them; sounds like they’re actually exactly the kind of thing I’ve been looking for. Maybe I’ll get the chance to give one a go sometime soon. Very nice work!
Yes, give them a go - I think silicone brushes are probably the same thing.
❤❤❤
Love this demonstration, thanks so much! ❤ Is there a difference in marks between colour shapers and catalyst wedges? 😊
I haven't used a Catalyst Wedge.
Thank you so much :)
You're welcome!
Is it just the artist mood or thought process involved?
Hope my question is understood 😂
Thanks so much Judy for sharing this demonstration. Can you tell us if we have the same effet when we use this technique on a canvas ?
You will see the texture of the canvas, but I always put a few coats of gesso on first and as the paint piles up the texture is less visible. It's nice to have the contrast between that texture and then areas where it is smoother.
Thank you for your help@@judywoodsart I like you very much as a teacher and as a great artist .
How do you keep your color shapers so clean? I find that the paint dries so fast that I can't really get it all off.
I wipe them with a cloth as I go.
can you use the soft gel medium on oil paint?
No, I don't think so. It's for use with acrylics.
Just thinking I have a set of 5 that I bought and they are different shapes/ Do you have any ideas that you have come by. i have mummy and baby shaper so now i know there is a poppy size one i will have to look for him to get him back together
What a lovely reunion that will be!
can you do this with oil paint?
Yes I think you could, but you would have to wait for paint to dry between layers.
Thnx 4 your reply
