@@freddiecongote6927 he slimmed down for sure… i didnt realize it was him at first, but i thought in my head “i know this guy”… we talked for 5-10 min about wrestling, he was very pleasant. It’s so good to see someone from that era still around and healthy 🙏🏽
I just love watching these videos with Warlord! He was scary as Hell when in character (except when Piper made fun of him for looking like Wally Walrus), but as himself he is so laid back, well-spoken, and friendly.
It’s awesome to see Warlord still after all these years! He and Barbarian were a great powerhouse tag team. I’m still a huge fan of both of these guys and Warlord still looks intimidating even today. Wish him well and thanks for making so many kids childhoods special!
Great interview! 10 year old me never would have thought Warlord would be so nice and pleasant haha. He also doesn't get enough mention these days... he had such a great look and the silver mask gimmick.
I remember seeing Warlord on the UK Rampage tour 91-92’ in Glasgow, Scotland. We were near the barricades and close enough to cheer boo. My friends and me cheered and waved shouting for him, he was a heel but he gave us a wee side smile as he walked past. Was cool as FCK 😂😂😂
I'm watching the Wrestling with Paul channel. He's got WWF each month from 1986 to 96. I'm at Nov 91 part 1 and The Warlord and Davey feud is in full swing. Best era of WWF.
Classic WWF was a proper soap opera presentation itself and that's why we loved it. The difference between then and now is that back then the writers knew how to create an angle people actually cared about, whereas now they couldn't write if their life depended on it. Even if they could, today's wrestlers just don't have enough of a handle on ring psychology to deliver it anyway. I'm just glad I grew up when I did and experienced wrestling's golden era.
when it comes to shoot interviews, would i have ever have thought that the warlord would be one of the easiest listening educational and hilarious shoots out there, no chance, great videos!!
it,s very refreshing and enjoyable how honest / intelligent / down to earth warlord is.....most people write this guy off as warrior type bimbo in wrestling....but this interview is very good ....james this maybe a guy you should ask more questions / expand on wrestling in general ...ya got a winner here ?
Loved the John Studd and Andre story at the end, that was hilarious. Hawk taking the biggest bump of his career (by accident) was also super funny. Great stuff.
It's amazing how scary Warlord was for me as a child in the '80s and now I watch this and after this interview I feel like he's a friend. What a great guy he seems to be, and a patriot too from the shirt.
Like so many others have already said, what a hella great interview Warlord has been. You can definitely tell the difference in the guys who drank and drugged (not counting roids 😏) and the ones who didn't from that era. He seems like such a well spoken, clear headed, honest dude.
Not sure if he used the juice back then but his body looked like he could have been on them cuz he was ridiculously ripped no clue if warlord did roids tho just wouldn't be surprised if he did cuz most monster guys back then in WWF were on them probably mostly cuz Vince McMahon was passing it out like Halloween candy
@@andrewkirkpatrick626 I guess you haven't seen the whole interview. He straight up admits to it and even went into detail on what he used and how much. Love his honesty.
Yeah obviously at that point I didn't watch the whole interview and then ya got to the part where he was naming off the kinds of juicy did LOL but guy doesn't hold anything back or throw any stones
The best physique in all of wrestling. Size and bulk. Just a brute. The Barbarian too. Just massive. The Powers of Pain made Lex Luger, Ultimate Warrior, Hawk, and Animal look small.
You often hear that Andre's problem with Big John was that Studd kept stepping over the top rope. Which, was Andres thing. But, if you watch that era, there were many other big men who also did that. Giant Haystacks, Uncle Elmer, Hillbilly Jim.. even while Andre was in the ring. Andre was THE giant but I think he may have felt threatened by John's ability.. rather his mobility, as a big man. By that time Andre was severely limited. That's just a thought, I liked both men and think it's sad they didn't get on.
Man as a kid i was scared shitless, then I saw this and was like no way he looked that normal, so I went back and watched a few promos with slick Rick and a few superstars matches and yup same guy lol, glad to see one of our heroes doing well .
Wild to me, i don't think I've ever seen an interview with the warlord! I always like his look, powers of pain vs. Demolition my first wrestling memories.
I've been following wrestling for a long time and it baffles me to this day why the warlord never got a serious push in the WWF. I thought he would have been a great intercontinental champion
I can remember being an 18 year old kid lifting in the gym in Apple Valley mn. I was doing lat pull downs with the whole stack. Terry came over and asked if I was done and I replied yes. Then Terry started doing tricep push downs with the entire stack. I was like WOW!
Never get tired of stories like that. Theres one that gets told about Mark Henry. Goes into this gym, there’s 3-4 local meatheads doing 415 squats. Henry hasn’t even changed, walks over, says “Mind if I get in?” and bangs out 10 415 military presses. The meatheads just kind of all slunk back to the locker room. 😂
Funny thing, Warlord was scheduled for a title run, what with Hogan on his way down. When Bret Hart beat Piper at Mania 8, plans were nixed. Jake left because he didn't get his job in creative, yes indeed. Terry and Nord would amateur wrestle with Kurt refereeing, and The Undertaker. But then Shango and Warriors feud fizzled out, so Jim was put into the title scene instead.
Awesome guy, got a big pop in the Netherlands in 1992 when he flexed while he was a heel. But one correction: Volkoff was from Croatia, former Yugoslavia. That is absolutely not Russia or Soviet Union.
I was in the audience when Marty hit the Rocker Dropper and paralysed that guy. It was about 45 minutes to an hour before the show resumed. We even heard the medical helicopter land in the parking lot. Lanny Poffo, the Genius, was the guy's partner in that match.
Interesting he names Rick Rude as one of the main ladies men. Lots of stories have him down as a family man and faithful etc unless I'm very much mistaken. Wonder if his widow will see this?
I remember how absolutely solid and ripped his biceps were when I was a kid what stuck out to me was when he flexed his arms and his biceps looked like rocks in his arms shaped rounded like solid boulders lol
Marty did the move that paralyzed the guy and Shawn jumped off the top rope onto him. Shawn got away scot free. But that's not the first time Marty made a man disappear.
I do love this channel (Wrestle Me is still my favourite) but I much prefer the English wrestling channels to the American ones! Wrestling Bios is good too but that guy is Irish
Loved thw warlord! Except that he taught my older brothers the full nelson and they swung me around like a ragdoll. Now I am superfat and too heavy for them to do that. I showed them!
The fact that he wasn't a big drinker seems to have paid off, he looks healthier than most 61 year old wrestlers.
I would agree and I would also say he's probably on some youth juices🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 trt baby!!!!!
Pretty sure he's done other things to his body that I'm more surprised hasn't seen him to the grave already. Juicing anyone?
Yeah I just hope all the steroids dint catch up with him he seems cool
I met Warlord recently. He was super humble and a very nice guy. Thanks for this interview.
@olalesio9260, Is the Warlord really that big as they say ?
Everyone says that. That Warlord was super cool

The run of Minnesota guys and their impact on the business is just incredible when you think about it.
Absolutely.
Unreal
I think it starts with the number of wrestlers the state contributed to the AWA.
Warlord has become my favorite interview. Who'da thunk it? Humble, intelligent, well spoken guy with tons of stories.
What a nice guy. It was a pleasure listening to the Warlord. I bet he is a great family man
Great interview! 10 year old me never would have thought Warlord would be so nice and pleasant haha. He also doesn't get enough mention these days... he had such a great look and the silver mask gimmick.
Warlord is a brilliant interview. I've watched loads of shoot interviews and warlord speaks so clearly and with so much interest. Love it
Ive been in the bar at the same time as Curt Henning and John Nord and can concur they know how to party and were funny😎✌
The Hawk "bump" story off the airplane is absolutely classic. Losing control when it had ZERO drug connotations.
Everyone has had that moment lmao "hey guys dont slip" *fucking dies*
Especially because Hawk had just warned everyone to watch their step lol

Barry Darsow and Bill Eddy just seem like genuine guys.
They did/do great interviews together and separately.

I loved him as a wrestler! He’s such a great interview too! So polite
Fun fact: According to Batista's book, Warlord was his favorite wrestler as a kid.
This is what I was coming to post 👍
I wonder why 💪💪💪💪💪💪😂😂😂😂
Thanks Warlord for all the great memories. When Wrestling was more of a Psedo Sport than the Soap Opera it is now.
I'm watching the Wrestling with Paul channel.
He's got WWF each month from 1986 to 96. I'm at Nov 91 part 1 and The Warlord and Davey feud is in full swing.

Actually factually
These warlords vids so good. Hope you bring him back again.
The warlord is someone I'd like to meet in person, he seems very genuine and personable.
He named Bret and Arn as the best workers, and not coincidentally they were both given the task of trying to make Tom Magee look decent....
He's really good at presenting backstage stories...
James is a great interviewer and Warlord is a SUPERB subject.
Met warlord in ellerbe, nc at andre the giant memorial during the summer. He was the most down to earth person and talkative. Awesome day. : )
The Powers of Pain were awesome! I really enjoyed when they would have those bench press competitions with the Road Warriors.
Loved the John Studd and Andre story at the end, that was hilarious.
Hawk taking the biggest bump of his career (by accident) was also super funny.
Great stuff.
What a nice guy he is, it's amazing how nice some of the most imposing guys are!
Those Nord car commercials back in the day in the Twin Cities were pretty freaking good.

Best wrestler you ever wrestled? Answer: "BRET HART" (no surprised)
The best physique in all of wrestling. Size and bulk. Just a brute. The Barbarian too. Just massive. The Powers of Pain made Lex Luger, Ultimate Warrior, Hawk, and Animal look small.
Warlord did, he was a true monster. Barbarian was not bigger or better built than Hawk or Animal.
The story about Hawk is priceless
I would have never believed Demolition was friendly back in their day.
Curt Hennig forever! He was a genius at ribs
Man. Warlord, Duggan and Dutch Martel just seems like the nicest guys. Makes me wish they got pushed more..
If berserker was around a decade later he could have been deemed with a future telling gimmick of nordstradomos
