Depending on the State, the woman doesn't have automatic custodial power. Nevada for example is a equal parenting State and they have consultation for fathers you can speak with for free. Know your Laws and your rights because must men just forfeit the parenting rights to the mother. Depending on the State if you can prove you're more fit as a Parent and Custodial custody under you is better for the child's well being you can win. And even put the mom on child support in some cases . ..
