No anchor could possibly stop or significantly slow a ship of that size and tunnage. Anchors are designed to hold a stopped ship from drifting. By dropping the anchor it may have even turned the ship in the wrong direction.

This cargo ship was nearly 70 ft longer than the Titanic. Titanic weighed 20,000 tons more, and was traveling at more than double the speed. With that being said, the Titanic simply grazed the iceberg, and it was 37 seconds from spotting the iceberg until collision. That was 1912 technology. With 1912 technology, there were backup steam-powered generators in the event of a power failure. There were red lights that ran on these circuits that even worked even after the Titanic lost power and split in half. When the Costa Concordia lost power in 2012 from grounding and flooding, there was a backup system, and Captain Schettino was able to steer the ship toward land to prevent the ship from sinking over open waters. Having said this, why was there a complete power failure?

the main engine controls propulsion , and hydraulics controls steering. So when the main engine fails steering, propulsion fails then all gets into free fall.

YOU WOULD EXPECT THE BALTIMORE PORT AUTHORITY, STATE GOV, COAST GUARD AND FEDERAL HIGHWAY ADMINISTRATION, NTSB
TO HAVE REQUIRED 3 THINGS TO TO PROTECT THOSE BRIDGES:
1) LARGE BUMPERS PEIRS AROUND THE BRIDGE
(NY HARBOR BRIDGES HAVE LARGE BUMPERS PIERS).
2) A PILOT BOAT TO GUIDE THE SHIP
3) TUGS TO STEER THE SHIPS INTO AND OUT OF THE HARBOR.
IT SEEMS VERY SCARRY THE COAST GUARD CAN LET THESE
VERY LARGE SHIPS BOTH CARGO AND PASSENGER INTER
AND LEAVE A PORT WITH OUT A PILOT BOAT OR TUGS!!!

that bridge are flimsy to begin with, just look at it, like a bunch of tooth pick put together, they need to make bridges safer.
Nothing in this world that humans could build would stand up to the force of direct impact by a giant container ship. Those things are SO heavy. And this one was less than half-loaded.
It did look flimsy to begin with. Considering the bridge was built in 1977, you would think it would be of better design and strength. Hopefully, they build the replacement bridge bigger, stronger, and better. For a span of bridge that long, engineers should take note of the design structure of the bridges around the San Francisco Bay. Just a word of sound advice.
Theybwill just go into a different port it doesn't stop it .... the product s will, still get in ... and they won't send it to just one there are many ports to divide the shipping... thats just fear mongering. It's already a tragedy don't add to it .

In my mind, I imagine that they will find their bodies were pinned down by a portion of the asphalt that had flipped upside down upon their bodies.
