  • Dan Crampton's '55 Chevy is a rare old survivor that isn't real pretty with its 50 year old paint and typical rust spots but it will even impress the non believers with it's wheels up starting line antics and 10 sec time slips! Powered by what Dan calls a standard fare 406ci with a single 4 barrel carb its best run to date is an 10:83@124mph. Dan bought the original california car from a 90 year old gentleman and along with friend "Mr. Horsepower" Steve Quickel turned into one cool retro California themed '55 Chevy Drag Car! The '55 has all it's original body panels along with the factory bench seat, rubber flooring and uncut, untouched dashboard. The over the top lettering work was done by Steve Connor owner of Conman Painting in Dwight, Illinois
    If your wondering about the name it comes from his friend of 50 years Steve Quickel. Steve had a '55 back in '65/'66 named The Crusher. Dan remembers as a youngster being in awe of the car driving past him while he rode his bicycle. So Dan set out to build the car with Steve in mind and not only that, gives Steve the keys to pilot it down the dragstrip. What a friend!
    When Dan and Steve, who built the engine, put their heads together the sky is the limit. These two long time friends have been assembling street/strip combinations for nearly 50 years in the city of Streator, Illinois with the likes of a Hot Chocolate '68 Chevelle,Crazy Carlo Monte Carlo,DC-Express, and Moondust an altered wheelbase '65 Plymouth Hemi, just to name just a few!
    Dan who changes his automobile scenery often, will entertain offers for the '55, as it would help him pursue a few other projects, including his 10 second '69 Biscayne street car, Billy Reeds Monte Carlo, a '69 396/375 4 speed Nova or his altered wheelbase 65 Chevelle 2 door sedan among others he has on the back burner! If your serious you can reach Dan at Dcwagonmaster@yahoo.com. #original #trifive #vintage

    It's BADASS!! From the original body, paint, interior, the faded lettering, old decals, white headers and gold Moroso valve covers..definitely a time capsule!!

      That could be done with 12.5 to 1 and about 620 lift and a TCI 4500 converter, weighing around 3300lbs with driver.

    Mild 406 my ass! Do the math, the car weighs 3-k,,, the motor must pull at LEAST 550 h.p. to propel the 55' 1320 feet in 10:88 @ 120 m.p.h. I love the car, very sanitary under hood, and wheels up hole shot,,, doesn't get any better,,, O' and no l.s. Bull shit! Ol' school. The way it was intended back in the good Old days!👌👍🇺🇸 apple pie, and Chevrolet!!

      There's contact info for the owner in the description you can take it up with him. His exact words were "there was nothing special in the drive train other than the standard fare stuff 406 with single 4 barrel carb. I took that to mean it was mild maybe my bad. He's a honest great guy don't think he would have a reason to lie.

      Probably 12.5 to 1, good flowing heads, maybe 220 ports, 2.06 intake valves, 620-630 lift, a TCI 4500 converter, 3300lbs including driver, 4.10 gears, yeah about 10.80s or 6.60 1/8th mile.

      @paulacri604 Před rokem

      @@WyoCutlass71 Way back in the late 60's, I was informed by the place that did a review and performance modification of my transmission that the Pontiac Muncie 4 speed trans had a bigger input shaft than the Chevy and was therefore stronger when subject to a harsher treatment. Don't know how true that is. I can tell you that I put that transmission through some pretty harsh treatment at times and never had a trans failure. As far as I know the 4 speed bell housings are the same (Pontiac and Chevy).
