Lb for lb is for manlets. Lift the most weight to be considered the strongest, period. I don't mind someone being the strongest in a weight class, but don't claim anything else. John Haack is amazing for his weight classes, but he can't hold a candle to the SHW class. I think lb for lb argument comes from Hollywood tropes of the over-common "underdog" that we see far too often in media. It's actually surprisingly rare, and almost never happens legitimately. I also despise the concept of an underdog. The hypothetical situation for them has to be perfect in order to "beat the buzzer".

Remove weight class and you'll end up with only a few 400lbs fat dudes competing just like strong man before they started including more endurance events. For me, a 240lbs guy that can lift 1050lbs is much stronger than a 440lbs guy lifting 1100lbs. If you're 250lbs and can lift 20lbs more than a 150lbs 14 years old boy, don't brag about it.
