    Brilliant how you've addressed the channel panning assignment with the 4 assignable rotary encoders!

    Hey. GREAT Vid!! This has shed some light for me. I have a Midas M32R so, some things that are different but, I hope to get through them soon. I also use Cubase and I don't see many people that use this combination.

    Hey Mitch, thanks for this video tutorial. This really helped me out, it works great, also in Cubase 11Pro.
    It's a shame that the 16 faders on the left can't be assigned via Mackie, but this is really great, maybe Behringer will come up with an adjustment for this, because I think it should be possible. I am very happy with your contribution.
    Now I'm making a work instruction for myself, I have taken pictures of everything with all settings, so if something happens I can find it again.

    Awesome video. I have question. Is it possible to control third party plugins from izotope and slate digital on insert thought the x32?

    • @MitchMichelleOfficial
      @MitchMichelleOfficial  Před 4 lety

      you can assign the rotary controllers midi values, so as long as your plugin will accept/allow you to change the midi values as well, it seems possible to me. but it would pretty limited control as there's only 2 rotary controllers that are assignable. i don't have an x32 anymore, so unfortunately i'm afraid i can't really offer more than that.

    Can you PLEASE tell me how to set up a digitech vocalist VHM5 in Cubase 7, I am using a Focusrite Scarlet 212 interface, I would be so grateful.

    Hey... thank you for your video. I have a question: my input slides are not working in cubase. Everything else works great

    • @MitchMichelleOfficial
      @MitchMichelleOfficial  Před 5 lety

      input sliders...not too sure about those working at all. I believe you're looking at the functionality of a Mackie interface on the mix side. pretty sure you can't actually change the input slider values from Cubase. I could be wrong, tho.

    I want to use the DAW as a multitrack playback machine, and mix out of the box with all processing and FX in the console, and yet record automation envelopes for the audio tracks. DAW control mode on the X32 appears to turn it into an X-Touch and you still have to use plug-ins for everything. Is that a correct evaluation?

    • @MitchMichelleOfficial
      @MitchMichelleOfficial  Před 5 lety +1

      other than recording the effects through the mixer "live" when you're recording, yes that's correct. you'd have to use plug-ins.

    Its possible to use more than 8 faders! The problem is that the console itself only uses one instance! This is not the fault of the Mackie protocol

  • @JonathanMcCulley

    Thanks for taking the time to do this video. I was exploring the x32 as an interface/control surface combo, but the limitations are too much. I'm going to be getting the x-touch with 2 extenders (24 faders) and an interface. Is there a reason that you didn't go that route?

    • @MitchMichelleOfficial
      @MitchMichelleOfficial  Před 6 lety

      2 reasons really. One is that I couldn't find a way to make Cubase work with more than 8 external faders at a time, so at that point having more mix faders wouldn't really me help in that respect. And secondly, having 32 inputs for Cubase for $1300, along with the 8 mix faders, is a really inexpensive way to record live bands. I know that Reaper and ProTools will work with more external faders; if you've got Cubase working with more than 8 than you've probably done more research than I was willing to put into it. :)

    • @JonathanMcCulley
      @JonathanMcCulley Před 6 lety +1

      Yeah, I totally agree on the cost effectiveness of 32 inputs+8 fader control surface. Currently I am using a Lemur template (Metafader) that offers a 32channel control surface. They way they do more than 8 faders is multiple Mackie Control devices in studio setup (kind of like how Pro Tools does HUI). Then each bank of 8 is mapped to a different MIDI I/O. I assume that the x-touch extenders will do something similar, but I'll certainly check that out before I buy. I'll respond with my setup once I get it done. Cheers!

    • @JonathanMcCulley

      Hey, just wanted to check back and let you know how everything went. In short, it didn't. After doing a lot more digging, it seems that the X-touch buttons do not map correctly in Cubase. There are apparently some other issues involving incorrect controllers being sent to Cubase as well. Per Behringer, there is no way to edit the controllers to get them to map correctly and the only work around is to print labels yourself to rename the buttons. I will be doing a touch screen solution as soon as some of my clients decide to grace me with a payment. Best regards!

      hey jonathan! i suspected that might not work. FWIW i had a fairly big studio in the 00's; we were written up in EQ mag and covered monthly by Pro Sound News. Now, these were the days of Cubase 3, and we even had a fairly large Ensoniq Paris set up. Just saying i'm coming from that background...which admittedly is kind of dated. Still, i have spent some time with a Slate setup. At first it was novel, but after a very short time i got frustrated and went back to what i was familiar with - mouse and keyboard. If you're absolutely sure you want a multi-fader mix setup, i suggest you look into using cubase IC Pro with an ipad 3 or air. I do that now, and in those instances when i'm working with someone other than myself, it did help things go faster. now, you can use that in conjunction with an X-32, X-touch, or whatever. It did speed up my workflow a bit. and that solution is waaaay cheaper than a Slate. Just a suggestion and IMHO. :D

    • @JonathanMcCulley
      @JonathanMcCulley Před 6 lety +1

      Thanks for the advice. I looked at the slate and it's way too expensive for what they offer. I'm actually going another route which will be a standard touch screen paired with either Dtouch or VST controllers from 14-bit MIDI. I don't often have the need for multitouch (although Dtouch supports it) and when I do need to move a set of faders, I usually set up a VCA. I hope Steinberg will eventually support touchscreen more fully. In the interim, Avid's Pro Control app (free) utilizes EUCON protocol plays nicely along with HUI or MC devices in Cubase. It's a really useful little app.
      I think my ideal setup would be an avid dock paired with an S3, but sadly I do not have $5k to spend. I guess overall I want the ability to see and manipulate as many tracks as possible without banking a ton. I suppose this is a bit geeky on my part and only partially a workflow issue. My track counts are usually upwards of 70 with the orchestral stuff I do. At this time I think the only thing that offers me that within my budget is a touchscreen, which may or may not be paired with a tablet. A tablet alone still only gives you 8 or 16. I could use multiple tablets, but then why not just spend a little more and get a touchscreen which I can also use to draw MIDI CC data? Decisions, decisions. Thanks again!

    I was wondering why are you just not using the Mackie Control because it is giving you way more options.

    • @MitchMichelleOfficial
      @MitchMichelleOfficial  Před 5 lety

      Hmm. Not sure I understand your question. I am using the X32 as a Mackie Controller with Cubase, but if you're asking why I'm not using an ACTUAL Mackie controller...because I don't own one? Not sure if that is what you're asking...

    • @28rwags
      @28rwags Před 5 lety +1

      No the reason I am asking is my controls are totally different. I have 8 knobs for panning and I can control all my plugins and the group faders are my 8 faders to bank and all 8 control knobs above the 8 group faders work as pans or effects plugin controls. That is why I was asking. Are you using the latest firmware and are you using Mackie control or Mackie hue? I hope you understand what I mean.

    • @MitchMichelleOfficial
      @MitchMichelleOfficial  Před 5 lety

      I'm pretty sure I do that in the course of the video...as far as panning is concerned anyway. as for the rest, this was made over a year ago now so it is possible there has been a firmware update.

    • @28rwags
      @28rwags Před 5 lety +2

      Check out the new setup you can do like everything now and also there is a Cubase X32 mod you can add as a controller now.
