Episode 1 - Jeep Renegade Camping setup 2.0

  • This is the Jeep camping setup that I've been using since 2019 when i did my first video about it. I can safely say that theres not much I would change, except that I always forget to bring a pillow lol. This is much more detailed than my first video about it. It has evolved slowly as I added some permanent gear and upgrades.
    The only piece I really needed to buy was that big waterproof cargo liner cover that is covering the whole trunk area. Found it on amazon for maybe 50$. The windshield cover also found on amazon is really handy to add some privacy.
    I will definitly do a video detailing all the camping gear later on but for now I focused on only showing you the setup I use to sleep in the Jeep.
    I spend a couple nights at that spot by a river. It wasnt the most scenic but it was definitly quiet and peacefull in the middle of nowhere, exactly what I needed.

    This is where it's at bro. Nobody in sight. Not a sound of a freeway or commotion. Really wish I would have bought a new jeep like this. I've pissed away so much money only to come back to this. Which I really wanted most in the first place

    I appreciate this video. As far as the Renegade itself, did you have to deal with the oil consumption testing and/or Module reset remedy? I saw one 2018 Renegade I liked. Had fun test driving and everything but read about new engines due to oil consumption. This one had 37k miles and now when I look for used ones, they are all low miles like that.
    How is your Renegade doing?

    • @DBluetheRenegade
      @DBluetheRenegade  Před rokem +2

      Hi Mr Geek! My Renegade has just passed 150,000 KM (about 93205 miles) and I bought it new in april 2019. So, 3 years and 6 months ago. I've been driving it a lot to visit places but also working as an IT field service technician, so I'ld say my Renegade has seen a lot of highways, city streets and a good amount of offroad/no pavement. I heard about the oil consumption troubles on Renegades shortly after buying it. At first I was worried but, knock on wood, I've never experienced the problem. And its not because I havent put miles (km here in canada) on it. I did the first couples oil changes myself just to be sure. So far, no major problem except expected normal maintenance. I must say that I bought a trailhawk, so it might be because trailhawks arent prone to the oil consumption prob..? But then again about 18 months ago I received a letter about the recall. I started chatting around with other owners and I decided not to let anyone mess with it because I havent experienced the problem. I think they wanted to reprogram something, they were not even replacing any part. I havent search around to see if other people had their problem solved by doing this. Theres this forum (jeeprenegadeforum) where I like to chat with other Renegade owners, you might want to check it out.

      @@DBluetheRenegade High respect to you and your response! I sort of was already starting to look at that forum because I was seeing myself becoming apart of the Renegade family lol. I apologize for bringing this up but I’m like you, I research BUT I also go by self experience meaning I don’t look for things and if it’s something I’ve been working on myself, I wouldn’t take anywhere else either. Saying that, I knock on wood with you. I know every owner didn’t have this problem, it was just refreshing to see a good experienced review. I haven’t given up yet on it lol. Thank you again for your response and transparency! 👍🏾

    Quick question, did you stick anything under the false bottom part of your cargo area to make it stronger to support weight? I am a heavier guy and I do not want to just be held up by the trim piece lip around the cargo area xD

    • @DBluetheRenegade
      @DBluetheRenegade  Před rokem +1

      I have not made any upgrade to the flooring and I never noticed any problem. But its a good question that I never thought about. After reading around about a possible weight limit for the inside of the trunk area I have not found an official info about it from Jeep. I've talk to people that have hauled big load of cement mix and stuff from 400 to 700 lbs without any problem. There must be a limit but Im not sure what it is. From experience I dont think we need to worry about that since most of the weight, aka my butt lol, is situated on the laid down backseat instead of the false floor.

    • @DBluetheRenegade
      @DBluetheRenegade  Před rokem +2

      It was from amazon but TBH, I had to buy 3 different shades, tried them on and only kept the best fitting one, cost me about 40$ (2*20$) because it came in pairs of 2, needed 4. Im not sure which of them I had bought exactly but i suggest searching for keywords like: Car Window Shade, Car Sun Shades, Stretchy Mesh, Stretchable Breathable Mesh

    I’m going car camping in my renegade. What did you use between the front and back seat to rest on besides the sleeping mat? When I was taking a look at how I’m going to set mine up there is a gap between my seats no matter how I position them. Looks like you have another mat underneath everything hooked to your front seats. Was wondering what that is and where to get it

    • @DBluetheRenegade
      @DBluetheRenegade  Před 2 lety +2

      I bought it from amazon. Its a non slip and waterproof cargo liner designed to protect the whole back area while carrying pets like a big dog or something. It has a few velcro spots that will stick it down in place and snaps to the 2 front head rest as show in the video. Its wasnt expensive like 40$ canadian. It doesnt feel cheap or thin, very sturdy. Look for pet cargo liner waterproof on amazon, you sure will find one that will fit. Unfortunately the one I bought isnt sold anymore but I found others. Take measurement of the cargo area to be sure its large enough. I didnt like the idea of a wood plateform and Im glad I went with this. Its cheap and does the job. Plus its waterproof and protect the whole cargo area. I hope you will have as much fun as I do camping with your Renegade :)

    In between getting a renegade, 2017 patriot, or a wrangler (wrangler seems kind of over the top for me, but its also spacious for car camping). Is the renegade spacious? I've seen a lot of them and they're almost a foot smaller than sedans, which concerns me a bit.

    • @DBluetheRenegade
      @DBluetheRenegade  Před 2 lety

      I think the Patriot has a tad bit bigger cargo space but Im not sure how much bigger it is. I really liked the Patriot and almost bought one instead of the Renegade. As seen in the video, the Renny doesnt gives a perfectly flat space to sleep, theres a slight incline because the front passenger seat doesnt go down all the way. At first I thought it wouldnt be comfortable but I kinda like it now while sleeping. Also, I've spent a couple days chilling with the rear door opened because of rain. I would pull up the front passenger seat just a little so I would sit me up and be comfortable. Its like an adjustable bed I can lay or sit in. The Renegade was just right for me but it might not be for everyone. I dont think you can have 2 people sleep in my setup. The front driver seat doesnt get down as far as the front passenger seat. I mean maybe if my girlfriend was no more than 5 feet tall maybe but the leave close to no space for cargo stuff while sleeping. I know it might sound weird to do but, before buying my Jeep 3 years ago, I went a couple time at the dealership and asked if I could just put down the back seats and try it out and measure how much space there really is, even lay in it, :) you're paying so dont be shy
