Absolute gold. Years of chasing the Flea, but instead should just have followed the Josh. This video is only 8 minutes of content, but worth months of lessons. Imagine, by this pattern you could be easily seen as the next best Flea by hundreds of drunk members in the audience đ
The drunker they are, the more awesome you get. :)
Awesome then you'll just need a singer who can scat and sings about California
Reppa deppa reppa deppa California - you as the new Flea AND Tony Flow
@@Woozy.0 All we need now is that Kanye collaboration for some of that real đ„. All the time I'm California don't scoop de whoop say I didn't warn ya
@@derekknight5156 SCOOPA DOOPA CALABASAS!
Flea slaps that bass like it owes him money!
Absolutely đ€Ł
You have the best sounding bass out of all the CZcamsrs. Some are way too quiet, some try to get too fancy with effects for a teaching setting. Yours is just done correctly. Thank you for that.
Thanks Paul, I appreciate that! It's a work in progress, always trying to get my engineering above n00b level. :)
Yes, and I can actually hear it on my wimpy phone speaker!
Noob Josh will always rise above!!
I'm 44 now, and became a "student" of Flea when I was a mere 14. Learned everything Chili Peppers at the time and anything else that tickled fancy. I picked up slap bass so fast. It's not that difficult if you have the passion. It's trick playing. The real trick comes with making music better with your playing, and that requires being discernative.
Weird that the older Flea gets, the more he looks like George W. Bush.
Flea is the decider!
Oooo you funny man! You so funny that you should be comedy man on top of revolving restaurant for claustrophobics
Damn Son.... lmao
Mind= Blown!
You're one of the terrerish
OMG~ Your humor was turned up to 11 on this one. Loved the patterns you went over. Nothing makes me happier and feeling the bass rhythm and groove than percussive playing. Callouses on my callouses indeed. Another great video. And, who knew that Flea actually owned a shirt đ€Łđ€Ż
Thatâs awesome Iâve finally found a famous bass player that uses the bone of his thumb like I do for my quadruple thumb technique
This was an instant save to my learning playlist. I play bass in a metal band so I don't know if I'll ever have the chance to pull out a fast slap fill, but one can dream. Awesome teaching as always Josh!
Depends on the metal!
Off the top of my head, First Fragment, Archspire, and Havok all use slap.
@@Marfman Feildy uses a bit of slap as well
@@Marfman Don't forget Mudvayne!
Love your vids! They helped me learn bass. Are you planning to do a bass pedal/pedal board video?
Oh great idea!! Yes please! Also another beginner bass/amp video and perhaps Bass and amp picks for other than beginners.
Thanks Alexandru! Good idea, that'd be fun, I love pedals. :)
@@BassBuzz yeah its amazing how many bass players need to learn about pedals through guitar videos because......ef us I think?
Ahh the burgers not enough for you. You want the special sauce too! đ±
Hi! Are the request to telegram you (to claim a prize) a scam attempt? Could you please let us know? Thank you
Josh, I watched your videos when I first started bass. I love all your beginner focused content. You made me feel encouraged and prepared to try.
This video is exceptional. It's a perfect chunk of lesson. Thanks for this.
Growing up as a suburban skater kid in the 80s and 90s Flea was my introduction to slap bass and his technique strongly influenced mine although over the years has morphed with countless new influences
A late friend of mine gifted me the DVD that this was clipped from when I first started playing bass many moons ago , that's awesome you found this - it's a classic and was super illuminating for learning slap drills and attack heavy riffs . Cheers and thank you for contributing content !
Iâm just about to start the slap section of the B2B course, so this is perfect timing. Plus I never knew Flea owned a shirt. If itâs used, I wonder if he got it from aâŠflea market? đ€
I like your light hearted comedy videos that often feature content about the bass guitar. Good stuff Josh.
Thank you so so much Josh! For all your videos and especially for the "Beginner to Badass" course. Two years ago it helped me to start :)
You're welcome Pavel, glad you enjoyed the course!
Beginner to badbutt is great! 100% worth it, really dig the fact that I'm finally able to transcribe on my own
Badbutt???!? Bwuahahahhahaha
That video actually inspired me to practice slapping with my own bass instruments. Such a great warmup technique.
I started doing this a long time ago and am still learning.
This is the best slapping video I've ever seen
Guitar player for about 20 years. Iâve only played a bass a couple times but I really want to get one and learn. More instruments the better at my house.
I like you put classic flea bassline each section
The entertainment is perfectly sprinkled throughout the video. And you've held that fine balance for quite some time now which is impressive because it's easy to overdo it once you realise the audience enjoys it! Hats off!!
Thanks to you and Flea, my bass playing just changed forever.
Nailed The Speed Talking Transition Into Clicking And Subscribing - Well Done
Cheers
Oh yeah that was so good!
THANKSMAKESUREYOUSUBSCRIBEPLZZZZZZZ
dope.
Luv how you teach people to make it their own
You are back! Glad to see!
Wow, what a great lesson! I'm quite the amateur, but man this took me to a whole new level fast! Definitely earned a sub from me.
I learned that pattern/exercise (and a few other) from his instructional video back in 1995. Great video.
Love the new editing it really makes the videos pop i noticed the new editing like 3 videos ago its really good
Fun fact: using your pinky to finger 2 frets up isn't just conserving energy, it is actually how you would finger the same thing in an orchestral setting. F# in 1st position is your third finger on an electric but your 4th finger on an upright bass
Funk-E-Tudes by Andy Lalasis and Frank Cook is one of the best funk bass excercise book/tape that I've heard. It's super FUNKY.
The first video that actually helped give me clear direction on how to continue and practice playing slap amazing video
Just got a new suscriber, my friend.
Amazing content, thank you.
As always great video. đ
Hey man, I'm a pretty recent player but your videos are very informative and have taught me stuff I probably wouldn't have known otherwise. Also I just cracked give it away, it took me a week to really get it but today I was able to play the entire song on time and everything
Great video once again. I really like the root-pentatonic pattern of playing. I guess I'll do a lot of it in the next weeks!
Thanks for 1 of your best videos ever. đ€đ
Yours truly, the guy with 10 thumbs who's older than dirt.
Thank you! :)
Excellent video I've been wanting to develop a good slap and pop technique... very helpful
1:47 still gonna try this with my flat tapewound strings... I just put them on yesterday. we'll see how it goes...
excellent video, thank you!
This is now my favorite channel on CZcams, and I don't even play bass.
Absolutely awesome video!! I will be taking my time to digest this one. Great job!!
Great material I will be able to send money next month I am digesting the stuff with you Ken
I am a simple Guy, i hear or see slapping and i press like
Another perfect example, why Josh is the best bass teacher on the internet! Thanks for that!!!
Thank you man this was very helpful
Breathing is such a pro tip! For some reason when the music gets we harder we forget to breathe! That just makes things more difficult
Haha yup it's an ongoing practice!
I always find your videos very educational but also very entertaining!
Thanks Andy!
Huge fan of your video! Also a huge fan of beginner to badass. We gonna get a new course anytime soon ? Iâm sure youâve got something in the tank. Cheers Josh!
This is so awesome. I think I'll never learn slap lines ever again. I'll just make my own, cuz now I know how.
You're allowed to do both too. :)
Josh, your lessons are incredibly good, I tend to follow more "serious" bass channels, but when you goof around it's tasteful and doesn't diminish the lessons. Thank you for all the work you invest to help all of us.
Great lesson Josh
Another great lesson!
your editing is getting better
Great content dude
Excellent lesson! :-)
daaaaaaaaaamn 30s in and my mind is already blown listening to his blazing slap speed!
Thanks for this.
Loved the video !!!
I've been watching bass buzz for a while now and was wondering if you could make a video on how to solo on bass!
Thanks for the videos!
Awesome vid thanks
That's funny, i have the same Pbass, and mine had a crackle in the volume, turns out it needed a whole new pot. thanks warranty!
Take notes, Squier quality control!
I needed this lmao
Very very very very good!
Thank you very much!
Instructions unclear, my step-sister got stuck in the washing machine
I remember seeing that video years ago, trust me, it worked!!
LMAO I was looking at mechanical watch's and your video popped up. 6bps vs 8bps Japanese vs Swiss. I like Flea and Peter Hook. Great video. Thank you.
Excellent
Really helpful, iâll try to use octaves they sounded really cool
Subscribed. This is the first video of yours I've seen, and I'm sold. Time to start learning bass in my free time (what's that? haha)
Thanks Jesse, have fun learning bass!
Thanks Josh and Flea I tend to make harder than it should be I have 77P bass 93pj 01 stingray still cood not play slap funk good. this helped me so much, by the way you see the time line in each of those gutiars each time I send this is the one.
you know your stuff. Thank our.
The only cool bass trick I can do is a fast TTP slap in the middle of a bassline and double-finger pops which is kinda like popping a power chord. I miss the days when I had the energy and time to play more.
Nice!
Nice data for begginers, i really wish i had this when i first tried to learn to slap, it would have made things far easy :D
Even the choking sound rhythm wasn't bad, sounded more like an anticipatory galloping thing etc.
Eh , whatever you do is amazing
Thanks for giving and breaking down in parts đ
not only that this is really a very informative video on how to slap or how to create a bassline with a flea influence in it
it also showed 2 of my exact basses a sterling ray 4 and squier CV 70s pbass đ
Awesome chop I tried to slap & when I popped it was difficult to build speed because as my thumb bounced up I tried to pop in one motion I can see the value the thump strikes root note and the octave pop implies tonality and then you can get funky with the fifths or the blue note !
PLEASE do a video about the basses that you use! đ
Yes please!
"flea actually owns a shirt" coming out strong aint'cha
It'd be cool if you made a video with your dad showing how you prefer to set up your bass.
Every time i listen to old RHCP i always think to myself âWut happened??â there newer stuff isnât a 1/10th as good as songs like âSikamikanicoâ
Cool!
what a great videoooooo finally l got how it's done!!
totally underrated bass guitarist!
very very very honestly...
I did not expect this video to be so GOOD!!! I thought I had learnt most of fleas lines and understood them. I was wrong. thank you Josh!!!
Thanks Sergio!
loved the vid! can you do a breakdown of Tim Commerford's bass lines in the future?
SO FUN TO PLAY
That video of Flea teached me how to slap. Im still an amateur, but at least I sound cool.
Always wanted to play like Flea.
flea is the best bassis ever.....I really like the way it plays
You have my exact same bass!
This is the easiest way Iâve ever heard anyone explain slap and it makes so much sense
As I watch these awesome videos, one thing became clear, before anything else, I need a bass guitar!
Yeahhhh! đ€
lol love this guy
Love his random bass commentary on his videos
I really can't slap before i click the like button
It's really work guys!
This was so helpful, thank you so much!
Always wanted to learn slap bass but never figured out how to set up the bass for it.
Flea used to be a client of mine many years ago, you have no idea how sick a bassist this guy is
Flea explained it in secondsâŠhe doesnât need likes and subs.
Great take on how to make flea work with your own groves. Noticed you have the Ray 4 which I have; Do you like it better than Yamaha TRBX 304? Thinking about trading in my 5 String Shire V7, it is just to much for me as a beginner. I am taking you your class as well. It's fantastic.
