Scot built my bike in the garage of his family's home in Walnut Creek, CA when he was in his 20's. Still have it and love it.
You gotta love an owner and a company like that!
They are awesome for sure!!!
That’s was the best interview he is a walking MTB history book. So cool and a badass rider . Just think how fast Scott will be when gets older. 😉😉👏👏💪💪
Good interview! After 22 years of delivering stokage, I just retired my 2001 Ibis R.I.P.ley in pond scum green! It was a great bike.........
He look chill, seems like a cool guy.
Love the ad at 4:00! That's a VERY forward design for then. Sloping top and short seat tube, 29.4mm seat post? Wow!
And then the quote from Hank Barlow at the bottom of the ad! So cool. My VERY first mountain bike ride in Moab was with a friend who had the owners of Rim Tours and Hank Barlow take us on their "secret" version of Poison Spider Mesa. (It avoids most of the dreaded sand traps.) Anyway, at one point, we stop to rest in a nice slickrock bowl for some food & drink. When we start to head out, I wonder, "Where the heck are we going? Slickrock "walls" surrounded us with no obvious trail out. Hank just hopped on his bike and rode up one of the "walls." I was aghast in amazement. "Woah!" The Matt followed him up. So then I figured it's my turn and went for it - and cleaned it with pride and joy! I had been racing road, mountain and a little trials, so the technical challenge was right up my alley! THAT was my seminal Moab moment. Love at first sight. So lucky to have had such a special introduction to a magical place.
So awesome!!!!!
Great interview. My first serious mountain bike was a 1998 Alibi, which I still have and just got repainted. Got a A Mojo HD5 and a Hakkalugi now too. Just need a road bike and I’ll have a full Ibis quiver :)
I had an 85 Schwinn MTB when I was 13 yrs old. I was the first kid in my school to have a MTB. Wish I still had it🤘🏻
A real OG! Just love the stories
So proud that I chose to support this company and get one of their bikes this summer :)
Thanks for taking me back down Memory Lane with this interview. Remember meeting Scott at eBike when John Castellano and I attended back in 1994...and later helping John pick up the first Sweet Spot full suspension bikes from the Ibis barn in Sebastopol a few months later. My all-time favorite mtb is the Ibis Ripley; although, I have now moved on to e-mtbs at this point of my life. Hoping there will be an e-Ripley at some point in time...
My first mountain bike was a Bridgestone. In 1987 and it had Biopace😀 Full Suntour. With the new click shift.
Fun story! Love my Ripmo! Didn't really know Ibis before that so it's great to learn the history.
I Love my 2023 ibis oso 😊 thanks for building a bike like this it’s incredible
As a new Ibis owner (Ripmo AF) I love this video. When Chuck himself responded to my email on a suspension question I knew I would buy Ibis! Thanks Mo and Hannah!
Do you mean Scot?
@@gregoryvierra6114 haha! Yeah! I guess that’s the email alias...my bad
You did a great job with this Mo. Really fun and great job!
Nice interview, I never researched the origins of ibis. My brother in-law has the Ripmo AF and nephew has the Mojo HD 4 and the bikes are fun to ride 👍🏽
Very cool!!!
One of the best videos by FAR!!! Thanks Hannah & Mo!
Very nice Scot, your MTB history is amazing, thank you. I was a late bloomer to MTB's (1991-ish). After being on a Ventana Marble Peak, and then Ventana Fuego and then going to the Ibis technology was, well, amazing and actually life changing for me... and that is still true today. Every time Ibis comes out with a new bike I am still overwhelmed with how well they ride. I believe at this point I have bought 3 Ibis bikes sight-unseen, just based on the specs and the knowledge that Ibis does things one way: The right/best way. Ibis has never let me down and have earned my loyalty and trust. Thank you for these fantastic fun machines that keeps us from growing old to quickly! :-)
Thanks guys! Great interview!! Love to learn more on the history and pioneers of the sport!
Thank you Mo & Hannah...........and Scot, this was awesome! Loving my Ripmo V2!!!!
I remember the 80s, when you would run into guys like Scott, Keith Bontrager, Joe Breeze, etc. at most races or festivals. Back when the Moab Fat Tire festival attracted a whopping 300 riders, or when we rode Crested Buttes Pearl Pass with these guys.
Thanks a lot for uploading that. Truly golden.
Thank you!!!
Very new into Ibis family 🙋🏻♀️ I just bought my 1st Ibis bike Ripmo XT😃
Thank you very much for the interview. Will be great if we can get a factory tour of Ibis. Abit like how there are videos of Pivot factory tours.
It's been decades, Scot, but I rode a few rides with you in a group back in the "Snap" & "Major Tom" days around Occidental. I remember a ride when a guy with a Slingshot FS bike rode with us and at one point came sliding into our group when we were stopped for a hydration brake, and he had both front & rear tires locked and slid straight up and straight as an arrow for about 100 feet and stopped perfectly right next to us.
...just one odd memory.
- I loved my Bridgestone MB-1 but to this day I regret never buying a Silk-Ti when they were available 😢
Thanks guys for the video. I enjoyed hearing history I didn't know.
Awesome interview I learned so much thanks 👍
Great interview! I grew up riding and racing Mt bikes in the 80's and 90's and feel so fortunate to have raced from full rigid to 8-10 inch downhill bikes in the late 90's. I had no idea Hans works for Ibis, he brought the first Santa Cruz full suspension bike (Tazmon) to the shop I worked at for us to test ride in 1994, super cool guy. I just bought my first Ibis (Mojo HD 5) and love it, also stoked to be on a bike thats built in Santa Cruz where I live...
All my three bikes are Ibis, and I love all of them :)
I can still recall seeing the first carbon Mojo out on our local trail system. Im guessing around 2008. This gray headed elderly dude was out there just ripping on the thing. It looked like an Easter egg met some futuristic trail weapon. Thought my Titus Racer X was good but I was speechless after seeing the Mojo. There is no doubt in my mind that frame changed the industry forever.
Thanks guys, great interview!
Dang Awesomes, you're putting Ken Burns to shame. I like this historical content. More please!
Thank Bill!!!!
😆👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Happy w my Ripley ...we started trail riding with Shwinns orange crates had front and rear shocks....around 1970 10 years old ...jumping and all...Alabama Style😎
Great interview. Awesome story of slow and steady triumph.
Intresting interview. Love the pioneering attitude of those early days of mountain biking. Also love my Ripmo V1, I only miss the classic Ibis hand job ;)
Right on!!
Great video. Really enjoyed watching it. You should do more MTB interviews.
Really cool video thanks for uploading! Still rocking their original carbon mojo frame. It’s such a nice bike and still going strong
...and this is why I just ordered an Ibis :) Thank you for sharing.
Amazing historical interview. Amazing Man.
That was a great interview, very interesting.
Great questions Mo!
I bought a 2018 Breezer storm expert which was a budget hardtail from breezer bikes . Now It appears Joe Breezer is not doing much with mountain bikes and he was the leader in the beginning . As Scot said he worked for Joe Breezer
The Mojo with the fist rear cable guide...so cool....
Im sure one of Scotts Oh no what was I thinking bikes was the Trials Comp . But Ive got one in the frameset graveyard and its time to give her some TLC . Great interview .
I have the original Ibis Mojo - UK tester bike frame, running some slightly more modern running gear and running more modern looking styling. Great bike.
Great interview!
That needs to be archived as mtb documentary
Thank you!!!
Love the TAMBA shirt
Right on!
I enjoy my hakka and the rear brake pads. 😎
Nice interview, chat..
I had an email in to the company regarding some bolt specs a few weeks ago. I got the reply directly from Scot. I had a pix of the hakka, he was curious about the tailfin.cc set up I had on the bike. Would luv to tour the mtb museum in Fairfax as well, regarding mtb history.
I learned of the brand, mainly from Mt. Bike Oregon- where you can ride over three days, bikes costing more than the car you drove in. Mojo 3 beaut of a bike IMO.
Nice vid!
i sure appreciate my '91ish ss. gorgeous bike, wouldnt trade it for the world.
I absolutely love the looks of Ibis, Roxy seems to do a great job designing them. That is if they ride as good as they look? Need rode on. Yet
Love Ibis bikes. Way better than Santa Cruz. Good job guys, keep up good work!
Hi Mo, thanks for the video. Interesting to hear from the founder. BTW, I know you like the DVO Topaz. What are the pro's and con's of the Topaz with Fox Float Factory DPS? And what type of riding/trails would each be best suited? Thanks again.
Great story.
Love my Hd5&DV9, and why is DV9 discontinued!
So cool Hannah and Mo!
Thank you!!!
Awesome interview! Sometimes he answers my questions via email. Great guy!
So awesome!!!
Yeah, I have had Chuck help me several times and he has been great. Awesome getting the founder of the company to help with you with customer service. Top notch company.
@@ckcbmrice Yep! I've considered switching brands just for a change, but Ibis is local for me and their service is supreme!
So awesome! ibis is the best!
We agree with that!
I LOVE MY IBIS”s BRO!
Great story!!! Gotta hand it to the pioneers of mtn biking. Remember well my first hard tail for 300 bucks!!! Hahahha Super interview.
That is awesome!
This interview makes me want to buy a ibis as my next bike.
So awesome!!!
You have to be crazy to buy a bike based on an interview. That being said, I test rode a Ripmo from the factory in Santa Cruz last January, fell in LOVE with it, hesitated to buy it, and they ran out of frames! (V1 that is) I ended up getting a Fezzari La Sal Peak for a 30 day trial and ended up sending it back because I couldn't get the Ripmo out of my mind. I have no doubt there are other bikes out there that would be great bikes (Yeti?) but I am going to get a Ripmo as soon as they are available because life is too short.
What a great story this guy is a legend
Nice
The best bikes!
Awsome
This company is the real deal. What an awesome history. Good job Mo 👏🏼👍🏻
So why do they have a Bin Chicken on the head tube?
He said in the video the Bin Chicken looks good in flight.
Awesome. .
I have a question for Mr. Ibis .
Why MO and Hannah?
Lol! Just joking .
As someone who worked with CAD in the 90's and 00's I have to say that CAD was already sophisticated enough, and the hardware was already there. I think he may be exaggerating the effort or maybe they should have employed some experienced engineers? lol
Electric... that will be before the 15 years. Even Santa Cruz had to jump on board with the Heckler. Yeti and Ibis will have to face that next step. Fasting growing area.
