- I hope yall enjoyed 5 days of me sitting at my desk having a mid life crisis! prepping for my first year has been so overwhelming but I am SOOOO excited for Monday! I will be vlogging the first week of school so stay tuned for those coming soon!

Bailey, don’t be nervous about support staff being in there! You have to stay consistent with your students! Teach and interact with the students as you would if the support staff wasn’t there! You got this!!

You should get string lights!! And then sometimes during work time you can turn off the main one for a more calm vibe

bailey you should do that! But don’t do it all the time or at least make sure it’s still bright because some kids prefer lots of lights and some kids get headaches from being in that weird dark but bright setting at the same time.
Have a great first week! Just love them up. Everything else will fall into place. This will be my 19th year teaching. Every teacher is a first-year teacher this year. Also, if you use a pin and poke a hole in the bubble, it shouldn't come back. Hope that helps.
I have been teaching for 4 years and trust me it gets easier but there are always time of feeling overwhelmed! You have such a great attitude! My best advice is do what you can. Veteran teachers are always doing a lot, BUT do what you can do. Then add on when you are ready. I learned this half way through my first year and was a lot better.
I actually am support staff (working to become a teacher) and we get just as nervous being in a new teachers room just because we don’t know their classroom operations or procedures yet either. Don’t worry, we’re usually excited to learn and observe all teachers and their different strategies, so teach as you would if we weren’t there! Bailey, here's a trick I learned using my Cricut. When I get air bubbles with my vinyl, I take a needle/pin poke the bubbles then I use a squeegee to smooth the vinyl. Good luck and have fun with your 1st year.
For the attendance magnets I would have each student move their own... Just with COVID, you should try to limit as many students touching other things as you can! Your room is amazing.
I’m a first year teacher too and I completely feel your pain. I think overwhelmed is a understatement for me.

Maybe have a box of fidget toys for kids with anxiety or have trouble focusing.
A tip from my cooperating teacher back in the day, I teach middle school now, but using highlighter to write an ‘m’ on your master documents. The yellow highlighter will not copy through! So cool! I need to film a whole #FirstYearTeacherAdvice video series on my channel with these types of tips lol

I'm a 3rd year teacher, but I'm loving watching your vlogs. We can all still learn so much from each other! I love the "Save for Next Year" binder. My school uses Google Classroom and Drive, but there's SO many things that end up in the Drive, things can get lost. I definitely am going to make a binder to keep track of my most important stuff for next year. Thanks for sharing!

PS. Coming from a 6-year Support Staff Student Assistant - don't be nervous about the assistants coming in, we are mostly worried that we're not living up to your standards. We focus on the kids - we LOVE when the teachers feels like they can be themselves around us! I've become such great friends with the teachers I supported!

Don’t worry about support staff judging you. I was the school librarian, as part of the support staff we are there to help. Besides we were are beginning teachers once upon a time ourselves

My high school has classes and has certain assemblies about capturing kids hearts and i’m in the classes and it’s like a leadership class. And we get to go to different events and help others, and i’m a christian so like i eventually want to go to different conferences around the U.S and share the word & that’s like a life goal of mine honestly

How much $$ would you say I need to save up when talking about decorations and school supplies with being a first year teacher and what are some things you suggest I should start to getting now?? Definitely start collecting books now! You’ll never have enough of those! I can’t really pinpoint an exact number but I would say just get things here and there starting now so it’s not too much at once!

We have instructional aides that will come in and just assist as needed with students! We also have esol teachers that come in help my ELL students!
