What Happened If You Used an iPhone to Record Solar Eclipse

- There were spectacular scenes across the nation Monday as America experienced the historic solar eclipse. Crowds gathered on rooftops, city sidewalks, beaches and campsites as an estimated 160 million Americans witnessed the moon pass in front of the sun, turning day into night. NASA covered the eclipse with a livestream on the space agency's website, while many who went outside to witness the event for themselves also tried to capture it on their phones. #InsideEdition

" you have to keep your glasses on"
SAVAGE
@@user-jg4mk3qn8r oh god I remember savage
@@user-jg4mk3qn8rI used to say that all the time lmao
The reason they say “TAKE UR GLASSES OFF” is because it’s during totality, during totality you can take off ur glasses and see the corona (the suns atmosphere) around the moon. And if you keep ur glasses on, you’ll see nothing
@@cheetahgurllomg a person who didn’t comment 6+ years ago!
It was in my area, I had my glasses and brought them to school. GUESS WHAT MY MIDDLE SCHOOL TEACHERS DID. THEY BLOCKED THE WINDOWS AND TURNED ALL THE LIGHTS ON. IM GOING TO BE LIKE 80 WHEN THE NEXT ONE COMES. FML
VanillaSpice That must have sucked! Our school provided us with glasses and we all went outside to watch the eclipse.
VanillaSpice YOU'RE 73? IN SCHOOL? OMG..
Kimberly Munger the one in 2024 is in europe if i'm not mistaking
Tycho Broucke no it's over the us
VanillaSpice

Nope, in different parts of the world, it happens at different times

Enough said.
True. Next time I see the eclipse. I would want some eclipse glasses.
Imagine if they eclipse didnt even happen
But we knew it was going to happen. We can accurately predict solar eclipses.
He said if
It didn't happen In My country
Lorik The Dortmund & Barça fan Albania it only happened in the United States
It was just special effects dumbass
My school said no and made us stay inside till it ended
Artic Chan that a shame
Artic Chan Parents threatened to sue if kids stared at the sun. Our school was doing the same thing so I just left early.
Must be in GOP countryville. They don't believe in science! If you were in totality and they kept you in they should be taken to the woodshed! You needed glasses but really? stupid teachers and administrators!
I would have said "screw you" and go watched it. Oh well. Next one will be in 2024 in Texas and Mexico.
Artic Chan Same here but I was in southern Cali so there wasn't a difference in light at all
Too bad I'm not in the USA 😭
Shiny Crystalz
You can still see it if you're *not* from USA I have some family that lives in different countries and they still saw it
Shiny Crystalz I am
Shiny Crystalz I live in Texas and didn't see it
Bob Bob same
Bob Bob im in maryland and i didnt see it either
1:25 To me it's more INCREDIBLE how astronomers can predict Eclipses and things like that, 38 years from now...like in that case from 1979. 😳
It's simple by just calculating orbital paths of the earth and moon
I didn’t see the eclipse cause I was asleep lmao
jughead jones the 3rd lmao

My cheap ass wore three pair of shades and saw it just fine.
Chocolate Capricorn HAHAHAHA THAT MADE MY DAY
Wait for 12 hours dumbass
Chocolate Capricorn that would cost way more
That Girl 😜😂
Jacob McGrady how?
Anybody else impressed by the accuracy of prediction in 1979? They got it exactly to the day!!
This eclipse was predicted back in 1887 from a work called “Canon der Finsternisse” by Theodor von Oppolzer
How did she take a picture of the eclipse when it wasn't even there? 0:41
I barely saw the Eclipse because there were a lot of clouds where I was, but hey it was still amazing to see a sliver of it.
0:27 it's so beautiful to see that man in the background experience this moment with his box of cheerios.
😎 i was ready
that one kid is back To bad sun glasses won't help you
Y r u on every video I watch?
That one kid who thinks hes cool because he uses emojis
our didn't even do that like it wasn't all the way day bruh I'm was mad
DLD NATION Did you not understand the concept of the path of totality?
DLD NATION
Your stupid. You clearly weren't in the path.
Deseray & Lackpuppet, shut up because she is clearly a child. Deseray your name is clearly stupid, who an the hell would name their child Deseray. Wtf....🤔😂
DLD NATION yeah u have to be in the path of totality
Jessie only imbeciles will offend others based on their names. Being a child shouldn't be an excuse when there's an internet she clearly know how to use the internet she can just go on a website type in her state/ city and it'll show her how the eclipse will look like. She can learn a lot from the internet with just a finger movement not their fault for her not using the internet wisely.
Everyone bought one in school but then the shipment was canceled so we didn't get to see it plus we didn't get a refund 😖
The shipment somehow cancelled everyone's individual purchase? Or did they collect their money and give it to the school to do it
Catrina Tran omg wow sue the school and force them for a refund
jk don’t sue the school lol
Lunar Eclipse > Solar Eclipse
Lunar eclipse is literally a kind of solar eclipse
yes
Will Dorrance *…No it isn't*
A Lunar Eclipse is when the earth blocks the sun and a Solar Eclipse is when the moon blocks the sun
^^^
Who here for this one in 2024
definitely not me being in my backyard smoking kush
@@shoopdireal
I thinks it's amazing how they can tell what day what hour and what second it's going to be truly amazing
Not really...the sun, the moon, and the earth all moves at a constant speed. Once they figured out the pattern it's just a waiting game. That said, my brain power isn't thar great 😂
ill never understand the hype

no camera could ever capture the beauty and glory of TOTALITY !!!
The 40 year wait was worth the 2 minutes of total bliss !!!
So is looking at the eclipse more harmful than looking the sun? I remember challenging myself to stare at the sun when I was 7, so I'm wondering if that left permanent damage.
This is a little late of a reply but yes. The sun gets stronger during a solar eclipse so it damages your eyes alot more.
@@elitecerealthat doesn’t make any sense, the sun isn’t any stronger, it just appears to be less bright so you can handle looking at it for longer, thus increasing the chances of injury.
the real reason why it’s so dangerous is because of it looking not as bright as the normal sun while staying as dangerous to look at.
who else forgot to buy eclipse glasses this year
Here in Wisconsin it was just a cloudy day. Wouldn't have noticed if it was the day or not
My teacher thought this too, I told her how I photographed the sun just fine and how camera lenses aren't like the human iris, she decided that feeling like she was right was better than being right, I filmed it anyway
Amazing that they can predict it that accurately
Its just math
This was awesome. I was camping in Oregon to see it! The darkness was so sketchy! It was not like the regular nighttime darkness. it was like.. it was just so awesome!
I missed this one because I was in second grade and the teacher was cautious with younger kids but I plan to view the next one next year
That event was amazing.
I looked at it slit without my eclipse glasses and I couldn't focus on anything after that but now I'm fine but it's better to look at them with your glasses where I live we got 90% of the eclipse we were hoping to get a full eclipse but at least we got some
DR O you don't see symptoms until 12 hours after...
DR O Lucky we only got 40% here so what happened is the sun just got brighter and that was all 😞😞
We got like 20%
DR O 95% for iowa didnt get to see it my school overprotective
we got 70%
I remember my mom told me a story about how she experienced a eclipse around September of 1981. In the middle of school.
We definitely wore glasses up until totality. Definitely a sight to behold!
Few years ago there was a solar eclipse in Europe and I looked at the sun without having glasses and my vision was purple and I thought I will be blind.I was terrified! But it was for a short time.
2024 CHECKING IN
Now ask yourself, why in 2024, news outlets have told everyone NOT to take a picture?!
I took lots and didnt wear glasses
Wow I'm in the uk I remember the one here but to think that they could predict it to the day is incredible!
I live in Charlotte,NC and it wasn't that dark 🌊
🙄*
You were't in the path of totality, which is very narrow---only about 70 miles or so.
It was so cool everyone was outside but it just looked like the moon
It doesn't look like that in person. The camera can't pick it up right because of the contrast between the light and the dark. It really looks like nothing you've ever seen in person. If you ever get a chance to travel to see totality, do it. 99% doesn't compare. It's really amazing to look at.
@@jessb9514 bro I made that comment 6 years ago tf
it was cloudy af... sad didn't get to see it
It was cloudy and rainy in Minnesota :(
I used the glasses to block the camera when I took a picture and my phone is fine :D
I saw it it was amazing
I live in Hilton Head South Carolina which is about only 2 hours away from Charleston and it was raining and cloudy so it did get dark at all and all we saw was clouds and a sliver of the sun but I still think it was pretty cool but I think if it wasn't raining it would've been way more cool
I miss this day, and I got to see tho can't wait for another one
lol - the fact tht there is one happening on monday. the comments from 6 yrs ago make me laugh
`cant wait for the next one in 60 years cs ill be dead then`

No kidding, it's not that rare!
Look at the top left corner at 0:52
Here in New York we didn’t really get much except for the sky getting darker in blue and the sun moving in the opposite direction if I’m right lol.
I’ll be 20 when I see the next one just so happens lol
It was funny how many times I looked at the sun because I forgot 😂
This one white girl who claimed to take two photography classes said that it'll mess up your phones camera lens
She wrong
catch me at school tomorrow with a white cane
make the phone wear the glasses, somebody should've made a Solar eclipse filter for that day lmao.
Here we go again! 04/08/2024 🌑
and then there's me in australia like :|
Come to America or Mexico in 2024.
RIP 👀 EYES
that one kid is back I see you everywhere in CZcams lol
0:48 You'd think everyone would have their glasses on and watching the eclipse but they're just sitting, She's the only one with the glasses 😂
During the eclipse at school the teachers wouldn't let us go outside to watch it. A possible once in a lifetime that we didn't even get to see.
I missed it because I went to school
Half of all Americans went blind after this.
Normal Guy they already were
I live in Charleston,SC and it went dark all the way around
the next one is tommorow 😂
I looked at the sun by just looking at my phone since the camera was pointed at the sun and that's how I saw the solar eclipse
let's do sub to sub
Watched in awwe??? What, is it cute or something???

Jokes on them, cus I actually managed to get a picture WITHOUT the aid of sunglasses or those cardboard paper thingy ones with my IP6S
I used my iPhone 7 to record the eclipse and I used a pair of eclipse glasses and it made the eclipse more sharper and clear.
So I didn't stare at it completely I looked at it for like 3 sec without glasses am I ok?
Yes I did the same and nothing happened
You guys blind yet?
The one is Kentucky sucked
the phone would be just fine..

Just watched a 95% eclipse a few minutes ago, one of the coolest thing I watched
I saw the eclipse at school
There wasn't school that day

It was on the first day of school for me

2024. April 8, to be exact.
we actually had to stay inside for recess (and pe) because there were some people in the neighborhoods were up near the school so i never got to see it
When the news reporter said 2017 that will be 38 years from now. I just imagined people thinking what it would be like in 2017. Here it is.
My eyes hurt and i didn't use the glasses smh
R-A-H_- You're gonna go blind. Symptoms appear after 12 hours.
Luka The Protogen Fan Yes he could. That's the whole point in wearing the glasses. You could literally go blind when you wake up in the span of 1 week.
Difference between americans and the rest of the world watching the eclipse.... Americans whoop and holler like attention seeking children, while the rest of the world watches in quiet awe...!
lockodonis The rest of the world couldn't watch because it was only over the United States and some part of the Pacific and Atlantic ocean. So yeah, we were cheering because this is the first time since 1908 that the whole U.S was covered. I reserve my right to be excited for something that only happens every so many years.
stop ruining everything
The rest of the world watches quietly so then people like you don't complain
Wow the last solar eclipse was so long ago damn
Wow I missed it well gotta wait another year for a partial eclipse
First
Our eclipse in Alberta was still sunny but a bit darker

Didn't get to see it and we live in central but more northern Alabama. The news said being so close to Nashville, TN. (one of the states it's going through) that we should have similar effects. So disappointed. smh :(
My teacher said dont stare into it so i left class early to see wat happens lmao
*Let me just take a picture with my phone and then quickly say it is fine without checking and testing the camera*
