Spybaits have been on the market for quite some time now but people still dont seem to throw this awesome bait near as much as they should.
I have seen them hit this bait several times when no other bait is working especially in the dead of summer when it can be extremely tough to catch bass.
In this video I will break down the few different ways that I like to fish this bait and the equipment that you need to do so.
BassFishingHQ is dedicated to teaching people how to catch more and bigger bass. I will go over different bass fishing tips & techniques that will put more fish in the boat or on the shore. Whether you are just starting out or a seasoned tournament angler, my goal is to help you catch more bass.

The only way I could get those busting fish to hit a top water was with a shower blows. Popping it making it spit as much water as I could. Then let it sit. Pop it again. Let it sit. No bites bring it in and try again. If they hit it I would try to make the first one miss. The next one would be the bigger one. I even got doubles on it. I also noticed I got more bites on the smallest shower blows.
Tyler: "I will lightly swing into the hook set when a bass bites."
The lie detector determined that was a lie.
😀
Thanks for the diagrams! It is hard for me to visualize what my bait is doing when I can't see it. This helps a lot!
Fantastic video. It is getting to be spybait time of year here in the northeast. It is a technique I haven't really had much success with, but the few fish I have hooked have been so aggressive, it makes me want to figure this technique out so that I can continue to experience that aggressive bite...
great summary on spybait, Tyler! I love using spybait on lanier. As mentioned, I use light braid, and a 6lb floro leader. The longer the better, So mine is 15-18’. Honestly should probably do all floro, but i’m cheap. lol. Plus I will use that 7’ med-light rod for other things like ned too. If i know there are fish on a point, I will do the immediate sloooow retrieve you mentioned. Then i will do the 10-12 sec countdown to try that deeper depth. God bless!
Great information. My friend use this bait this pass weekend and he caught them on it. He had two Baits tie together and they only hit the spy bait. Give it a try in clear water.
My order came in last week, just waiting on my next trip to try em out! Great content, 👍🏻🇺🇸🎣
Am really enjoying your videos and learning a lot at the same time. Thanks for sharing mate 👍🏼
Gosh darn it Ty , now I’ve gotta spend MORE money on MORE baits and learn ANOTHER technique!! Great informative video as always 👍
sup Tyler. I usually only use them earlier in season, tyvm for the tips, the bass are starting to hit, will give it a try🎣👍. ty tc
This was also stated about jackall riser lure. I've used an old fashioned swim/ suspending presentation with a 2 inch bobbers then 2 to 3 inches below the bobber a swivel. Then I put 6 to 8 inch 30 lb test leed line with a baitholder hook size 1 with a ribbon tail worm a plum color an proline nightcrawler attractant an bass destroyed this I catch some nice bass using this old fashioned set up I've used as a kid an let me tell you it catches fish. The beauty of it is you keep rod tip parallel to water to keep line tight. Vary retrieve fast moderate pause 3 to 5 or 7 seconds test out pause in between pause pop rod tip or tap handle of rod an bass crush this. Not many people use this set up. I seen the dad's taking kids out using this. It's easy to set hook. Keep rod tip parallel soon as bobber sinks wait 5 to 6 seconds let rod load up an raise rod tip. It works well
I like to put a bladed treble on the back hook, gives that spybait an extra flash. With a BFS rod, it's does wonders.
Another great video buddy . It was nice meeting at the Columbus Fishing Expo
Wonderful. Always intended fishing this category.
Man I think these Lures have been around for 70 years so they absolutely must work. Great Video my Friend
Great technique for bass but I catch a ton of big trout on them also so much so that I had an issue with DuoRealis hooks coming unscrewed and loosing fish. I agree with 7’6” Rod and long florocarbon 6-8 pound test to 10 pound braid. Also fish slow steady retrieve but every once in a while a jerk jerk twitch when they hit it they crush it!! Good content and explanations as we have come to expect from you
Use their I-class series (says ) on the box. Issue gone with this model (been out for a few years). They increased their action, accuracy, and distance. They have 9 models now as well (originators of the technique) more $ more top 10s more tournament wins on the Realis Spinbait. Continued R&D in their line up.
Great video Tyler I'm just expanding on this technique and it's super fun I wish you would have kept it a secret though ha😂😂😂
like the depth graphs for retrieve techniques!
Been waiting for you to put this one out man! Great content my dude🤙🏼
Great information!
I will have to try one of these, maybe I can finally get my first fish. My main issue is I cant see anything in the water at my local lake, its always so muddy, and no obvious cover near the shore. Any tips for that?
Im 70 years old and have been fishing for as long as I can remember. Spy baits will probably shine for 3 to 5 years and then slowly decline as the fish get used to them. Sure they will always catch fish but as so many other baits and techniques gained traction in the past the fish adapt. I discovered this method about 4 years ago and have already noticed a marked decline in bass per hour than the first season. I spend the month of September every year fishing the St Lawrence. The September fishery their is extremely consistent regarding water temps, weather, and fishing patterns. The first September we used spy baits was by far the best smallmouth fishing in both size and quantity we had ever experienced. Each succesive year the results have trended down and the drop shot has become the favored technique again. Ive related this finding to several other anglers and most agree theyve seen the same results.
Man what perfect timing. I got two in the mail arriving tomorrow lol
I have a collection of them but gave up early. It's something I should have used during the dog days.
Well, never seen 5’ visibility in my home lake so i guess i don’t need to get any spy baits … :)
thx, I learned something new!
Hey Tyler would you be able to do a video on the water to demonstrate??????
Seen spybaits on the shelf but never picked one up. Will it work for bank fishing?
Been waiting for this one for a minute
My son and I have lost numerous spybaits fishing this technique. Due to light line and slow retrieve any snag and this $15+ lure is gone! Lake Erie seems idea but the rocks will break your heart! You will need a pretty steady retrieve to keep at 4-7 feet from my experience.
Can it work for 2-3 inches of visibility?
how about the under spin how you fish it
I thought this was a Marling Baits video at first glance
Yeah very similar thumbnail.
Lol yeah!
Thanks. I have never heard of these. I will get some for sure.
Will this bait pull up the lazy ones from 20 to 30 feet below?
I have only been fishing these baits since the 70’s
@BassFishingHQ Question....why does this lure work using a medium slow steady retrieve however a jerk bait which looks identical to me ( minus the props) reeled in the same way doesn't catch fish ??
Gotta be the props and the small side side action to it ( just a shot in the dark on my end )
It’s just people repeating what they hear. They are so similar, they should work very similarly, as you realized.
He do be spying on that bait tho
No likes or acknowledgment for the absolute GOAT lol I see you Tyler!
More fishing vids please ?
It's funny they say that about every lure. 🤣
Hey Ty tough trying to find spinning rods at 7'6 what do you recommend
Personally, the Lew's KVD 7'6 ML spinning rod is a pretty good one.
I'm doing a St Croix Victory, 7'10" moderate, with a Pflueger Supreme 5:1 reel. Works great. Didn't destroy the bank account
Doesn’t HAVE to be JUST clear water surely right?
When all else fails………. Kastmaster is my go to lure. It catches all species.
How much did the manufactures of this lure pay u?
oh, is that when it works?
best casting..🔥🔥🔥🔥🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣
🇮🇩🇮🇩🇮🇩🇮🇩🇮🇩🤝🤝🤝🤝🤝👍👍👍👍🙏🙏
Everyone says this about literally everything…
Especially this channel as good as the technique info is. Almost everything is the best type of bait it seems.
Word to the wise do not use braid to fluorocarbon on this bait at all!!!
Nah...not in florida.
Any Japanese fishing videos or CZcamsrs you can recommend? I'll I have found is NORA. He's fun to watch but not very instructional.
If I saw that bait at the store I would just assume it’s a jerk bait

How old are you
You mean for you? Likely you don't know how to fish.
