- Minnale is a 2001 Indian Tamil romantic comedy-drama film by first time director Gautham Vasudev Menon from a story and screenplay written by Gautham Vasudev Menon and Vipul D. Shah. Starring Madhavan, Abbas, Reema Sen, Vivek and Nagesh it tells the story of a love-struck protagonist stealing the identity of his former college foe to pursue his lady love and the eventual repercussions he has to face when the truth is revealed. The film's original soundtrack composed by first time music composer Harris Jayaraj, became a chart buster prior to the movie's release. The cinematography of the film was handled by R. D. Rajasekhar and Ravi Varman and it was edited by Suresh Urs. The movie was marketed as a Valentine's Season release and upon its release Minnale opened to positive reviews from critics and enjoyed stupendous commercial success catapulting Gautham Vasudev Menon, Harris Jayaraj and Madhavan to instant stardom. .

Minnale Audio Cassettes released in the year 2001 around Pongal time, I remember. I was studying 2nd PUC PCMB in Bangalore, preparing for my exams which were around the corner, but when I first heard Minnale songs coming from an Audio Cassette Shop, I was totally mind blown. Lying to my Father that I had buy a Question Bank, I took 50 Rs from him and went straight to the Audio Cassette Shop and purchased Minnale Audio Cassette for 45 Rs, with Madhavan in his Red Shirt and Reema Sen’s picture as Cover Picture, and Harris Jayaraj’s Smiling face on the Corner (Which I first mistook for AR Rahman).
The moment I purchased the Minnale Audio Cassette, I pedalled my Bicycle as fast as I could and reached home, pulled out my Walkman and seal opened the Audio Cassette and started putting it inside my Walkman and began enjoying the Minnale Songs. The songs were so fresh, the music was totally new and the sound effects were indescribable. The more and more I listened to Minnale Songs, the more and more I wanted to listen to them, and I couldn't help myself become a Harris Jayaraj Fan, and it has been 22 years now, and I am still a Harris Jayaraj fan.

Maddy and Abbas what a selection by GVM..2 handsome guys. Even in real life, would have been a difficult choice for a girl in reema’s position but I suppose most girls would go for that killer smile of Maddy. None of today’s heroes even the top ones have that killer smile.
