  • Shad are super fun to catch and I'm always looking for new ways to cook them. They are a tremendously boney, but delicious fish.#shad #catchandcook #grilling #grilledfish

    Great job and thank you for promoting these underutilized fisheries. I brine, smoke and pressure can the shad, zero bones and great with rice/crackers.

    I’ve got a pontoon boat, you should take me out salmon fishing show me how it’s done! Looks fun to get towed around. Had a pretty good steelhead season but I never really get out after the salmon.

    How long do you cook it for?
    Will this method dissolve the bones?

    So the way you cut the shad butterfly right you take out all the bones or is there bones leftover?

    • @AgeofAnderson
      @AgeofAnderson  Před 2 lety

      Oh man, those things are still bony as heck. They have very fine bones running all over the place, so even though they taste good, they are a pain to eat. Thanks for the comment!

    Did it soften up the bones enough to eat them? How long did you cook it?

    • @AgeofAnderson
      @AgeofAnderson  Před 3 lety +1

      I only cooked it for around 30 minutes, so we really had to pick through the bones, but man...that was the tastiest shad I ever had!

Thanks!

    • @AgeofAnderson
      @AgeofAnderson  Před rokem

      Last year was difficult here as well. Too much rain forced the fish to run up the river without stopping at the familiar fishing holes. Here are a couple links for good spots to camp during the run. It usually peaks in May and into June.

      They're all the same. Its just how you prepare it. They're a delicacy on the east coast, but a trash fish on the west. The only people who eat them here on the west are all the asians and russians.
      They're great for crab, sturgeon, and halibut bait too. We also like to pickel, can, and bake then. The roe is also extremely delicious if you know how to prepare it. We're just spoiled here by all the amazing fish we have that shad kinda just sucks compared
