  • As a pianist, voice coach and longtime accompanist, I have a LOT to say about music preparation. When I show up to play piano for auditions, there is nothing that fills me with dread more than music that is illegible, disorganized and confusing.
My job is to make you sound your best, but it is nearly impossible to do that if you music is a total disaster. In this tutorial I am going to show you step-by-step how to prepare your audition book.

hi brenda. just a question, so if i download a sheet music off of a website, how do i know or what are some indications i should look for to know that it is an original accompaniment and not a piano reduction? i dont really know a lot about reading music. is there a way to find this out myself or is this something i should always consult with a professional pianist? btw thank you so much for this video. learned a lot and exactly what i was looking for since i am just starting to build my very first book. appreciate all your help and notes! :)

Great question! if the melody is written in the piano part, then that's a good indication that it's not the original accompaniment. The melody should be more hidden in the accompaniment rather than written as a single life. Does that make sense?

I would also recommend connecting to a professional especially if you plan to do this professionally or semi professionally!
