      I had the TYCO version of this set called “The Big Detour” in 1979 with the Jam Car. I was 11 years old and remembered the set came with a scrub pad that you had to use to clean the track contacts. It was a constant job to maintain! 😖😖

    I was born in 77 but 100% remember these! Friends and stuff would have them. Was fascinated with slot car. Got an old 60's book from the library about slot cars and my parents took me to the only local slot car/hobby shop and I got a "real" slot car and raced it when ever they'd take me.

  • @eXtremeFX2010

    Myself, My brother and Dad had this exact set NEW and I'm telling yah it was the most fun and realistic slotless car race on the market. We purchased on clerance for $12 in 1982. You want to use all the straight track to get a good pass because you'll need it before the curves. The key to this. Pass before you get your opponent in the curves because unless side by side if you can pass before the curve or before the Jam Car you got your opponent beat. Lots of fun!

    • @Howlinwolfreviews
      @Howlinwolfreviews  Před 4 lety +2

      Longer straights are better for passing,this is a fun set.

    • @christopherbrown5338
      @christopherbrown5338 Před 11 měsíci +1

      @@Howlinwolfreviews Also, it's easier to pass if you leave a little space between the jam car & your car. When coming off the curve gun it & passing is easier. If you're riding right up against the jam car, you won't have the inertia needed to pass.

    Thank you so much for this video. When I was a kid I always wanted a TCR race track. At the time they were more expensive than the other slot car tracks so my mom would always buy the other ones and I don’t remember the names. But thank you for this video this brings back good memories. By watching this video I think I’m gonna go to eBay and see what they go for.

    I know this video is 4 years old, but it happened to pop up in my feed. My dad bought this set for me and my brother for Christmas when we were kids. We were poor and didn't get a lot of toys other than Christmas and birthdays. We used to play with it for hours. We learned to fix them the best we could to keep it running. Funny thing is, I still have it my attic. Never had kids to pass it to, so I kept it all these years. Good memories.

It had the same basic set-up, but the track had a one lane "Detour" making the regular turn, plus the one right hand, almost offramp looking Detour Lane. The Trucks were the same with different color scheme. The Jam Car, was an Ambulance. As you can imagine, the Jam Car would be in the way, and you could Detour taking the offramp. It was a farther distance, but faster than following the Jam Car. The Commercials were Epic!

    "Jam car" god I remember that. .. i had the formula 1 one with the unique red 1 and the black jam car and blue and yellow car

    This was a great idea and one I wish we still had today. The only problem with it was that the pads got burned through pretty quickly.

    I had no idea this existed in 1978, I thought it was a new tech when I got one of the Tyco TCR sets in the early 90s.

    CRC contact cleaner and a few drops of oil. Also use the contact cleaner on a rag for the track. I keep my trains running perfect this way. Do not use Goo Gone. The CRC contact cleaner will disolve all the oxidation.

    Yeah.. what it steal that was. U and the seller probably knows it. And u got them things running good as new lol.. i can tell after u serviced em and they sped up so much.
    TCR was the ultimate innovation when it came out with the slotless lane changing.
    Just writin this gets me excited on the inside. I always wtd one and ended up getting a new set like this. I had a better track but never got the Trucks like this one u have. That was the real ultimate and u cud always keep upgrading your track.. There was always car and track maintenance to be done but it was well worth it to us kids.
    We even held onto this stuff til it was not working, and started to lose parts. Before this a good slot set up we had was Aurora AFX i think lol
    Such good memories

    My youngest brother had the tcr set with the pinto and mustang. I have the tcr van set and a few additional cars. All the cars were finicky but, after cleaning and lube, the worked like a champ. I have a video of my tcr van set and additional videos with my other cars if interested

    Got TCR in the late 70's for Christmas,played with it so much the transformer would overheat and cut off the supply to the track.
    I can remember the overtaking was rubbish and the outside track was faster than the inside track.
