Not my fav genre but she made it more flavorful adding more vocal style to it. I feel she has the most potential for worldwide domination. She's just getting started and we are gonna hear r&b on the album as she has said.
If I remember correctly it’s because she was one of the girls in particular that expressed she wanted to explore that lane in LM’s music more, that was a big part of why they treasured LM5 so much. Her voice is also beautiful and highlighted the best when focussing on her softer tone and runs imo, her recent covers on her YT channel show this p well! Her belts have absolutely improved but are used best sparingly imo because her tone can become quite shrill up in those higher registers, they’re nice to tack onto a bridge and I think that’s why they had her on a lot of LM choruses too.
I wouldn't go that far, don't misunderstand me, I do like the song and is a bop, but i personally think it didn't catch me that much, maybe if I listen to it more times It can grow on me. I'm so excited for her album, and I want to see her doing a ballad, some songs that show us her amazing vocal range or some song that is lyrically beautiful like this one

I had the same feeling about the song initially but I’m at work now and I CANNOT get the chorus out my head. I’m also assuming pop was chosen intentionally as the first single and as she establishes herself as a soloist we’ll see some more r &b influences

I would say the song’s genre is actually more UK Garage instead of Drum & Bass - but like a fresh take on UK Garage music, similar to something AJ Tracey would do. I like how her voice sounds on this, how she builds the song gradually…

However, the song is about feeling overlooked and wanting love...so it's possible that the video is doing all these things that she didn't really want to, but was forced to and then in the end, she's shedding it all, to become the LA we all know now-the something that's real. I think it was smart to add thz garage elements (her style) to pop (LM), so that there's some familiarity to the fans. I think the next single will be more R&B/reggaeton vibes introducing more of her personal style. This song is her saying goodbye to the overlooked girl in LM and the garage is a hello to the types of music she likes and wants to do more of. A lot of first singles have a pretty simple melody/chord progression so that DJs will want to remix it. The more complex the song, the harder it is to remix. The simpler the song, the more liberties can be taken and more experimentation is possible. Also, a simpler song lends itself to more artists for a possible feature on a remix by another artist. I think a lot of newer artists don't follow this format anymore, but it does make sense to go with it.
