  • In this video I show you the process of converting a Trek Session downhill bike from 2022 and onwards to a mullet setup.
Mino Chip positions for different settings:
Mullet & full 27,5" setup: High position
    29er low setup: Low position
29er high setup: High Position - Rises the Bottom Bracket and steepens the head angle

Hello! How does the session feel with the 27.5 rear wheel?

Hi! I did not get too much testing in last fall, as I stole the rear wheel from my girlfriend's downhill bike and was forced to give it back... But based on the short experience that I got, I don't think it makes a huge difference. I actually prefer the feel of 29" rather than the mullet setup, but that could be because of the wheel and tire (she rides carbon wheels and DD Maxxterra in the rear, I like my rear tires stiffer and stickier. The rear end felt somehow twitchy, I think the weight of the wheel had some to do with it as it was so much lighter than the front wheel). I also tend to gravitate more towards stability rather than agility in my bikes, so it could be that the monster truck feel of the 29er is more appealing to me than most people.
So: I would say it is a lot about personal preference. I know riders that swear by the mullet and I also wanted to love it, but I come better in terms with the 29er. If there is a way to test beforehand, like loaning a wheel for a day or two, I would do that before investing in a new wheel.
I hope this rather long answer answered the actual question! 😄
