Brayden Point was the real Conn Smythe winner in this one. Yes Hedman was a beast these playoffs but if you really dig into it, you will see Brayden Point was far more impactful. They lost each game he wasn't in the lineup, he lead the team (and league) in playoff ES points and ES goals, he had the highest Points Per Game on the team, and was clutch with GTGs GWGs and OTGs. Not just that but having watched every single Tampa playoff game Brayden Point was clearly the line driver when he was playing and it was clear that Kucherov benefited more from playing with Point in these playoffs than the other way around. When factoring in Brayden Point's consistency from the start of the playoffs to the end, he definitely ends up the more appropriate "proper" pick for Conn Smythe winner. Shame it ended up being a popularity contest like it often is and that he got snubbed like that...
Honestly, I really don’t think Pointer really cares about it that much, to be honest. Could have gone to Vasy, Pointer, or Heddy. Was Pointer clutch? You bet your ass. Was Vasy a wall who had a mind-numbingly high save percentage? Absolutely. Was Hedman scoring goals and playing lights-out defense? That’s undeniable. Any of those guys deserved it.
