🥁Drummer Yoyoka’s BIOGRAPHY🥁
Born in October 2009, YOYOKA started playing drums at the age of two, played live at four, and formed her family band "Kaneaiyoyoka" at five. When she was six years old, she released her first CD while in kindergarten.
In addition to drums, YOYOKA sings, plays the piano, and is a songwriter. In 2018, at the age of eight, she became the youngest weekly champion in the under-18 category of the international female drummer contest "Hit Like A Girl". Her application video, a cover of Led Zeppelin's "Good Times Bad Times" was featured on NBC, NPR, in Rolling Stone Magazine and in Billboard and then spread all over the world. Her drumming prowess has been praised by music legends such as Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin), Ian Paice( Deep Purple), Roger Taylor(Queen), Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters), Sheryl Crow, Gene Simmons and Eric Singer (KISS), Kim Gordon (Sonic Youth), Hayley Williams (Paramore), Sass Jordan, Tony Royster Jr., Brad Wilk (Rage Against the Machine), Derrick McKenzie (Jamiroquai) and many more.
In 2018, at the age of eight, YOYOKA appeared in Japan's famous rock festival "RISING SUN ROCK FESTIVAL in EZO" as the youngest performer ever. The following year, she made a surprise appearance Fall Out Boy’s stage at Summer Sonic Tokyo 2019 in front of an 20,000 audience. Later that year, she was invited to Cyndi Lauper’s show at Tokyo Orchard Hall as the guest drummer for two songs on the last day of her Japan tour.
YOYOKA is endorsed by world-class brands such as Nike, Moncler, and UNIQLO. In 2018, she shot a Nike campaign in Thailand, followed by a Moncler campaign shoot in New York in 2019. She became the face of Moncler alongside actor Will Smith. Both campaigns were launched worldwide and were very well-received.
Already at the age of eight, YOYOKA became the youngest drummer ever to sign an endorsement contracts with drum makers Pearl and VIC FIRTH. Since then, she has also signed with Zildjian, CYMPAD and DW.
YOYOKA’s attention from the world does not stop. In January and May 2018, YOYOKA was invited to LA twice to make an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, one of the most popular show in the United States, where she was praised by Dave Grohl from the Foo Fighters who made a shoutout to her on the show. She also impressed the audience with a successful show at the legendary live house "Whisky A Go Go".
In April 2019, YOYOKA was selected as Newsweek's "100 Japanese People Respected by the World" and "World's TOP500 drummers” by Drummer World, both the youngest in history.
In 2020, Pearl showcased her talent at the 2020 NAMM show in Anaheim, the world’s largest musical instruments trade show. She was the youngest female and only Japanese drummer ever to appear.
The impact of YOYOKA continues to spread worldwide. Her favorite drummers are John Henry Bonham, Chris Coleman, Nate Smith, Chad Smith and Dave Grohl. Her dream is to travel and play sessions with people all over the world.
This is what we call a super group. I think I prefer this to the original.

Hard for him to sing with high notes
Imagine a clock face. The 12 o'clock position is a perfect hit on the note. the 11 O'clock position is slightly ahead of the note. the 1 O'clock position is slightly behind the note. There are few drummers that nail that 12 O'Clock position consistently be it the snare, kick, or any other component. Kenny Aronoff, Stewart Copeland. Emmanuelle Caplette are 3 I can think of, and now this very impressive young lady Yoyoka. Not only that, she has the groove on everything she plays down perfectly. "The Ocean" cover by Zeppelin she does is so good that even Robert Plant was impressed. I played drums for over 30 years and cannot come close to this girl's skill level.

30数年前、名古屋でヨーロッパのコンサート観ました。まさか今になってこのクオリティの演奏が日本で、しかも当時は生まれていなかったドラマー、ギタリスト（さつまさんじゃなくて女性の方ですw）の名演で甦るなんて。感激ひとしおです😭😭

I wonder if Europe realized when they wrote this, that it would become THE "pump them up" song for every hockey franchise on the planet.
It started life as a short instrumental intended to get fans going before the band hit the stage, so I think Joey had some idea.

当時ヨーロッパのギタリスト、ジョン・ノーラムはもっとギターメインのロックがやりたかったらしくこの曲のヒット後に同バンドを脱退していますが、このカバーを聞くかぎり十分すぎるくらいギターロックしてますね。

That is one of the fascinating occurrences when Yoyoka chooses a song or genre to play from. I find myself liking her interpretations of songs that would have me immediately switching the dial if I chanced to hear them played by the original artist that made them hits. None of that posing or "showmanship" that is already old the first time through. I believe it's been lovingly termed "the Yoyoka effect" by her fans. Whatever it is, it works for me.
Agree 100% about the song and the band Europe. The song is an example of how the eighties were a rough let down from the seventies. But, just like RATM, Yoyoka is always interesting to see make some upgrades. Oh and I absolutely like this singer here, for some reason. He is much more listenable..
Anyways I have a feeling our drum hero here is being the perfect bandmate, and this is not a song that she is over the moon about like certain Led Zeppelin songs let’s say. I have a feeling that this Setlist was a somewhat democratic process, and not a dictatorial one. Hopefully this year she will do the last song on the first Led Zeppelin album, “How Many More Times.”

I am one who never really liked this song. However, I find myself coming listening to this song over and over with this rendition. The duet between Satsuma3042 and Lisa-X stands out and thrills me. As with all of the other songs from your 12th birthday, what great musicians!

Great band, great vibe. Yoyos sticking is bonkers, the height she strikes from, then so much dynamic range I'd love to see her play something like highway to hell. Simple in theory, demanding in practice.

Ever since this cover came out in Oct. I made comments a few times that I wish this is shown on this channel (YOYOKA's) also but it took just about a month that to happen ( I don't know if they read my pleas ). In the mean time, Li-sa got a biggest benefit out of this b-day bash due to the fact that this song is wildly popular around the world AND incredible work by this gangs !!!😁

The regular drummer of this group might find it difficult to blend back into this line-up after the magic that Yoyoka performed with these awesome musicians.
It doesn’t matter how many times I’ve watched this, it still leaves me in awe (as for most of Yoyoka’s vids). I would bet that this whole birthday celebration would be unforgettable (experience) for the other musicians and a highlight in Yoyoka’s career. It’s like her professional debut to the world. Her 8-year old iconic GTBT’s vid was her introduction. What a terrific job all around. 👍🏼🤘🏼🥁🎹🎤🎸
The only ‘criticism’ I would have is that the (whole celebration) video had too many closeups instead of the whole band performing. And didn’t pan to Yoyoka when she was doing the more intricate fills.

When most bands do covers, they only do songs from 1 or 2 bands. This group nails a variety of songs from many different bands. Sometimes the cover can be a hit, while the original was hardly noticed. My favorite cover is Tina Turner singing Proud Mary,, which was already a hit by John Fogerty (CCR). When CCR did it, it was a great song, when Tina did it, it was a great show.
