How is it possible to see a million versions of this piece? I have made it to maybe 15 but most the time I did not see anything rather heart beauty. Why is it that so many people (Britons, Americans??) see Music
Just amazing. It's as if he experiences the composition with his entire mind and body first and then externalizes it for us through striking the keys and giving us this amazing performance. The recording comes out a little too ringing/bright for my tastes but still, just an amazing experience.
By far one of the best performance I have been given the chance to listen to of the Aria on the piano. I felt deeply moved on every note. Thank you for sharing this with the world.
Such a wonderful performance of the aria. Unbelievable beautiful. So contained and yet such depth of feeling. I'm just starting to learn this piece. You are inspirational, Igor Levitt. Thank you. Please come and play in Ireland!
@SuperMagren well... Yeah it is kinda... Of course the interpretation is very important too, but when you're not able to play but are great at interpreting pieces it's worth nothing... And tbh I love his interpretation of this piece... Maybe it just wasn't the time for you to hear his class, but he isn't called one of the best piano players of his time for nothing...
Exceptional performance with one tiny flaw? Dare I say the held resolution on the very last note is a tiny fraction too long? There, I said it. And I feel bad for daring to criticise such a wonderful artist and performer. I guess it goes to prove that all art is subjective. Ps I’m off to walk the Grand Canyon in October. I will stare at the stars and listen to this beautiful music.
Wölfibus Hi and thanks for your comment. I think we are all able to make aesthetic judgements. I love this particular work of Bach, the melody is so very beautiful. Maybe I’ve listen to so many versions I’ve become picky. I do enjoy Glen Gould’s version (1955 recording), if not a tiny bit too slow (there I go again), and recently I’ve been enjoying Jeremy Denk. Art is subjective although we can usually build a consensus on great art, and as such the work of JS Bach is one of the pinnacles of Western Civilisation, the others being Beethoven and Wagner. Just my own opinions, cheers. Stevie J.
He plays it so wonderfully that halfway through listening to it, it’s making me sleepy....the very purpose for which Bach wrote this piece - to cure insomnia.
Yes ! ... Hannibal ... the incredible tv show with Mad Mikkelsen ... a great souvenir ... Since the amazing dinners with " very special " gastronomic food i hope to taste human meat one of these days ... with the Bach aria " at libidum "
In this one aria Glenn Gould finds extraordinary changes of rhythm. It's magical. Levit has a beautiful sound but one gets stuck in a groove. Surely Bach deserves more freedom than this.
Instead of making political speeches at your concerts, learn to play at least one tenth as well as Nikolaeva (which, of course, is "mission impossible" for you). Enough said.
An absolutely gorgeous performance of one of Bach's most sublime pieces. So much intensity, depth and commitment - wonderful to see.
The trill sections are by far the best I have ever heard.
0:10 this trill ends a little early, wouldn‘t you agree ?
This is pure passion
Absolutely sublime......thanks for bringing so much beauty into our lives.
I have seen million version of this song and I can easily say that Igor Levit made the best version. Thanks for everything Igor you are the best!!
What about Gould’s ?

Bach ist der Beste.! Gut gespielt. Hut ab!
Quiet the finest melody ever written by Bach.
"Jesus bleibet meine Freude"

"Bereit, wenn Sie es sind, Sergeant Pembry..." :-)
0:56 “fwhy do I play this note so early””
I love this man's performance- so precise and fluid-butwhile the instrument never detracts from Bach's music, why the piano?
Why not? No more tin Pan alley harpichord for this sublime music.
Genius!!
🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
what is the bwv number of this song? thanks
PERCEPTION is a tool which is pointed towards both ENDS.

Te lo spiegherei perché, ma non capiresti... E canzone non è proprio il termine giusto
... Oh Clarice, what about some fava beans and a nice chianti?
Glenn Gould forever⭐️
I came here because of The English Patient :-)
You want a medal?
Etwas von Glen Guld, aber macht er langsamer. Noch hat ihm nicht überschriten.

Andras Schiff spielt Bach ohne rechtes Pedal... gefällt mir besser. Aber das hier ist auch schön.
He´d better NOT perform it...
