Me and my wife are visiting soon. Itâd be awesome to bump into you. â€ïžNYC
Can you do a video on romantic/date stuff to do in/around NYC? I'd like to see what's beyond a Central Park carriage ride and paddling around in a rowboat.
Hi, just in case, this place (Ascan Ave Forest Hills Gardens in Queens, Astoria Queens) of New York, we found by chance, about 11 years ago, while we were working, which is a small "Holland", with Dutch-style houses, there are also churches, these gardens and so on., it is clearly seen that this place was one of the centers of people from Holland / Netherlands ... The first initial name of the present New York was New Amsterdam in the 17th century, in 1626-1664 years ...
Sincerely, Alex
Speaking as a Brooklyn native.... no one I know even gives a sh*t where Robinson stood
Wow! All 5 boroughs of NYC in one day with Hidden Gems. The last time I did that was 2 years ago with the 5 Borough Bike Tour.
Howâd your legs feel after
Nobody cares đŽ
That sounds like so much fun!
Who offered the 5 borough bike tour? I like to try that the next time I'm in NYC.
@@poonpoonsmith399 itâs a event every year
One of the many reasons why I love NYC so much it's the Hidden Gems throughout the city.
This video was a gem to watch! So interesting to see all the different architecture and styles. Thanks Jon, another winner.
Even in the most famous city in the world there are hidden gems! Really nice tour here and definitely worth checking out đđŻđđ
awesome video my dude!
It's crazy how diverse NYC is and you do an amazing job of capturing and sharing that with us
This tour is fun to watch. NYC is phenomenal.
I'm super stoked. I'm here in NYC for first time for 9 days!! All your videos have been super helpful
I'm from Enterprise, Alabama, and will be in NYC the week before Christmas again. Some of those places surprised me, being in an NYC neighborhood. I found some of the places charming and inviting. They are a good escape from the hustle and bustle. I love NYC!
Oh man, Pomander Walk is definitely a gem. There's actually a second Pomander Walk here in DC (in Georgetown)
Didnât know that
The Verrazano also appeared in a famous movie Saturday Night Fever. We had the great pleasure of sailing under it on the Queen Mary 2. Great bit on hidden gems, made me miss NYC even more.
This was really great, thank you.
Baseball, New York Hamptons, New England Fishing village, Tudor houses & European villages - New York has it all. Great video. đœđœđœđœđœđœđœđœđœđœ
Great video. Kept me entertained. Just added even more, for my deisre to experience NYC. Will i ever get there?????????
This is my FAVORITE type of NY blog videos. And as far as I know, youâre the ONLY one whoâs ever talked about these places on here ⊠love it!
Great Video. Loved the highlights of New York and how beautiful and varied it can be.
Watching at 12:30am - looks interesting watching now.
Today Hill is where Francesco Cali, head of Gambino crime family was killed at Hilltop Terrace.
Also it is the highest natural area of ekevation on the coast between Cape Cod and Florida at 401 feet.
Grew up in Bronx -lots of time spent on City Island. I never hear of Malba - or Edgewater Park -really enjoyed video.
Give thumbs up/hit to all videos
This was awesome. I need to go visit that home plate
When we were growing up in Queens my friend from Whitestone's dream was to be rich enough to buy a house in Malba.
Next time I go to NYC I gotta check all these spots. Especially The Brooklyn Dodgers old home park now apartment building. The the place where they shot Godfather wedding scene. WOW awesome video.
Thatâs what I like about your posts getting off the beaten track thatâs what life is aboutâŠ.â€
@ 1st I was nervous that this would be the last HereBeBarr post. But then I thought, I would totally be this dude to be in your video. Great idea, and one you should use again. Thanks for sharing!
all these hidden gems need more popularity
This is really cool. So many things that I never knew existed in New York City. Thanks for sharing this. Cheers!
Hey I saw my house! Edgewater represent! Home of one of the few Volunteer Fire Depts in NYC!
I wish I could have seen these hidden gems when I was there visiting. These are beautiful. Wow!
Jezzzz!!! Van sounds like itâs about to fall apart lol
Sid Bernstein the man who bought the Beatles to America used to Eat at Patsyâs in Harlem.
Nice recovery after super storm Sandy in Edgewater
I †Big Apple and all the good things associated about it. Thanks for your video Jon.
These hidden gems are my favorite things to see in New York City!
Ebbets field yes at minute 0:59 if you get lost go to the office and get one of the employees to show you where the plate is. Can be tough to get an Uber in and out, so plan to go during the day and give yourself time. Worth it.
Great video Jon, as usual. I love that there is still a memorial that exists that honors Jackie Robinson. Also! I drove over the Verrazano bridge for the first time recently. Not for the faint of heart.
50,000 runners RUN over the Verrazano Narrows bridge in the New York City Marathon every November.
Omg I can only imagine you guys had to start really early in the morning to go to all these spots in one day
filmed 10 AM to 5:30 PM đ
I was just talking about the Hudson View Gardens to a friend yesterday. We used to get kicked out of there as kids. But it always looked fancy, even in the 80s. Great neighborhood.
đź
Hudson View Gardens is NOT in Inwood! It's in Washington Heights. These days the Real Estate Propaganda Network is calling that area Hudson Heights but it's definitely not Inwood!
@@johnscanlan9335 I grew up on 180th street. It will ALWAYS be Washington Heights!
Fascinating! Thank you to you and your new friend.
Verazzano used be have the longest span âŠ. but the longest single span bridge is now in Kobe of Japan ( the Akashi Kobe bridge)
I was supposed to go there in 2020 but cancelled due to COVID
PATZI'S PIZZA IS THE MOST UNDERRATED PIZZERIA AND IT MADE IT ONTO THIS VIDEO YESSSSSSSSSS
Iâm a New Yorker and I love and appreciate my city. Your videos are fantastic tease all our wonderful diverse neighborhood. Do you have a piece on Washington Heights? The history there is amazing. Especially the history of our Jewish neighbors who escaped and moved into Washington Heights.
We covered it about 2 years ago, check it out.
Well thank you so much. You actually replied. Stay well all the best to you.
You bring on some of the most authentic local New Yorkers man it's a great format to do your vlogs
The only time anyone can actually step foot on The Verrazano is The NYC marathon. Just thought I'd add that little trivia in there. I will be there this November 7th! Ciao
Malba is a total hidden gem and so quiet, very suburban with big yards and yes lots of parking đ€Ł I have family there, every time I go I have to remind myself I am in Queens. It doesn't feel like it at all.
Here's a fun fact to dwell on for all you NYC history buffs. Levittown, the suburban community built on Long Island for GIs in the post-WWII years, is actually part of a trio of Levittowns! We all know of Levittown, New York. But did you know that the community has a brother and sister. Yup, there's Levittown, New Jersey AND Levittown, Pennsylvania! You could look it up....
Great video!! So many interesting places to visit.
That was so interesting Jon! Thank you both for the tour.
Malba is easily one of my favorite chill spots in the summer lol .. bayside fort totten as well.. good stuff
I'm a native New Yorker..born, raised and worked in Manhattan for the majority and I'll be damned that I've NEVER heard of or seen a couple of these places, in particular waaaay upper Manhattan. I will say that Patsy's pizza on 117th and 2nd ave is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!
When I win the lottery- Forest Hills Gardens for me. I live in the Miami area, and spent 2 months in Forest Hills while my late wife was being treated at Sloan Kettering. I fell in love with the neighborhood. My wife would have loved it as well.
Fantastic. Iâm booked to travel in April 2022.
Great video! And the fact that you posted it means you are still with us,đ€Ł
That is so cool that Jackie Robinson stood on that sidewalk. It's amazing the history that is in New York.
That is really neat that homes from "The Godfather" movies were in Staten Island. I think most people assume those movies are filmed in L.A. either on location somewhere or in a studio.
Those tudor style homes in Forest Hill Gardens look beautiful! It makes me think of countryside England or something.
Well done tour!
Wow! Stuff & Places that Most of Us have Never Seen or Known about,& terrific Tour Guide[`Rusty'] THX for an excellent History Lesson!
Jon I will be sure to visit Forest Hills Gardens in Queens, NY next that I visit NYC, and I might even stop by and get a pizza slice at Patsy's.
Very cool, really enjoyed your videos, Thanks much
Loved watching this video with 5 hidden gems. Thanks for sharing both đ đ„°
Hats off to your tour guide Rusty. Ill bet he knows more about the city than most of its current/previous mayors. đ©đ©
Thanks I'm from LA moved here In 84 doing ambulette since 99 it's how I learned city . This is 3rd time I did this .
Once for family on my 50 bday next a couple I took to Raos from Hawaii. I'll take jon to Raos next it's a year wait to get in mon - fri dinner only cash only 10 tables only people own table go every week mon before Thanksgiving he'll give me a table for next year
This was fantastic! I'm always surprised when you're surprised about NYC! Awesome video!
Great tour! Really appreciated this one for places I havenât been to in all my years of growing up in NYC!
So glad you included Forest Hills Gardens it is a great gem so close to the subway but so often overlooked -- for the benefit of this neighborhood.
What is nice is at the end of the neighborhood is Metropolitan Ave with some great Mom and Pop stores and Forest Park with some great paths.
love the forest part of New York love from New Jersey đŻđȘ
The Netherlands, The Hamptons, The Philippians, The Virgin Islands, The North Pole, The Giza Strip, The United States. Besides The Hague, none officially have "the" in their name on a map (Bronx, Vatican City).
Watching your videos from The Hague! Hoping to visit NYC this year
I love this. I miss New York so much! đ§Ąđ§Ąđ§Ą
Cool video. Nice to niche travel NYC via you whilst here in Australia.
Good to see your grand return to Forest Hills Gardens Jon. Malba is indeed a beautiful place to go, and it's often considered a subsection of nearby Whitestone. You should consider doing a video on Whitestone one day. Just as upscale, but also involves quite some delicious eats in the form of Italian, Chinese and Korean fare. It's directly north of Flushing too, and you can take the Q44 Select Bus Service from Main St. Only about a 10 minute bus ride. Otherwise, it's quite surprising to see you've tried Patsy's for the first time. The area it's around is known as Italian Harlem, and it used to be home to more Italians than Little Italy itself.
Yeah i'm surprised it took me so long ot get to Patsy's also! Thanks Ian.
Really enjoyed this!
It was great thanks đđđđčđč
Great video, Jon! Come back to Bushwick soon so I can take you to some of my fav dive bars and thrift stores!
đđŒđđŒđđŒđđđđ€đ€
The Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge was the longest single span suspension bridge from 1964 - 1981, but it has since been surpassed by 16 other single span suspension bridges. It still, however is the longest single span suspension bridge in the Americas.
That part of the bronx could be somewhere at the jersey shore!
Yep!
Back in the late 1980s, I lived 2 blocks away from Pomander Walk.
I think your â tours â are really interesting! Love New York have lived all over
Now live in Puebla, Mexico and miss NY like hell..Enjoy !
City Island in the Bronx is a true gem!
While you can't walk the bridge to Staten Island, you can take a bus. The S79-SBS crosses the bridge from 86th Street on the R-train in Bay Ridge.
I was in NYC a couple weeks ago. Being a big baseball fan I didnt even think to go look where ebbets field was. Next time. Jon since you went to where the dodgers used to play, you should go where the giants use to play. Where the polo grounds used to be.
Jamaica Estates in Queens used to be a bucolic Tudor style area bordered by Hillside ave. all the way to Union Turnpike. Now many of the beautiful tudor homes have been knocked down and cookie cutter McMansions have been built. They have no character or charm.
great video sir, original Brooklyn Dodgers neighborhood,.super historical site
I love baseball history
i love the apartments so COOLL!!
I grew up in NYC and I just learned about a couple of new places I never knew about. Great video!
Really interesting! Thanks!
Thank you for a very interesting video.
Hi Jon. The Verrazano Narrows Bridge always gave me the willies when we used to cross it traveling to CT. for summer vacations. My aunt Ida had a Jersey Shore bungalow when I was a kid. We stayed there one vacation period. With the boardwalk by the ocean side.
I love biking through that forest hills neighborhood so much and I always forget I'm in new York. Someone told me it was a German neighborhood and it really does feel out of place in queens but it's such a beautiful neighborhood with its own charm I'm glad u showed it off :)
I've lived in Queens my whole life, and I never knew about most of those places. I gotta get out more.
Wow housing commission ...I love yr videos ...hope to come to visit nee York. My drream
Nice job boys !!
This was wonderful đ Thanks for the peek at these great neighborhoods and apartments!
Been to Pomander Walk, but yes, not open to the public. Access only with a resident.
We need to go to Ebbets Field and stand at home plate to soak up some more NYC sports history.
Cool hidden gems. My dad used to rent an apartment in the 50's at what is now the base of the Verrazano bridge.
I am from Argentina, I visited NY for the past 10 days (third time I visit the city). Internet is full of NYC copy/paste content, but thanks to your channel I got to discover some unbelievable places I did not know about and really enjoyed! IDK, this probably will get lost in a sea of comments but I wanted to thank you.
De nada
New York is beautiful gems. Never visited NY but maybe i will.
Needed more brooklyn!
Yeah this was a quick tour. We need a lot more Brooklyn!
I took him to presidents st and Albany st before Albany all you see is brownstones then for 2 blocks there's big houses almost mansions then back to brownstones . He didn't think it was interesting for video but if you go there it is surreal to see that. I don't know why those blocks are like that . Most people I show are dumbfounded
Yeah I have been told about Malba and some say it is the closest to the upscale neighborhoods of Los Angeles.
Great tour
If I'm not mistaken, the Tudor style buildings were built by Jewish families just like the southern part of Grand Concourse by Yankee Stadium
Great video! Would love more hidden gem videos. Cool to see places that most people wouldn't think about checking out.
Thanks for including Staten Island on the tour. Two corrections. "Top" Hill is probably "Todt" Hill, but the filming location for The Godfather is actually "Emerson Hill." Be aware that Emerson Hill is all tight turns, so don't try to visit with a anything larger than a mini-van. Another great hilltop destination is Lighthouse Hill, where you will find the Staten Island Light, the Tibetan Museum and Crimson Beech (the only Frank Lloyd Wright-designed residence in NYC).
Staten Island is a mystery to me. I was born and raised in Brooklyn. The only reasons, for me, to go to SI was to get to the interstate in New Jersey and to be on the SI ferry. It is hard to believe that SI is part of the City of New York.
Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)
This was right up my street. You should do a separate in-depth video on each of those places. Crown Heights is where I used to live and I didn't know about the stadium.
Wow, yes you know i'm going to do more neighborhood stuff as it comes out.
@@HereBeBarr And by "Apt. buildings", you need to state whether or not they are PJ's, people need to know what they are potentially walking up to or into, You don't wanna be responsible for some unsuspecting tourist from Nebraska being ganked.(
