    5:04 no way the original wooden design sounds this bad and 5:11 acrylic this good. The boxes are made out of wooden material for a reason not just aesthetics. Sure with a long pipe you will get some low frequencies but overall sound will be crap because of the high resonance properties of the acrylic.

    1)Quick physics.. surface of the woofer cone , max over all travel , max volume of air need to come out without disturbing the cone to move freely=>diameter of the bass reflex
    2)quick acoustic physics .. frequences to achive, shape of the woofer cone, volume of the box and shape, for those waves to bounse without canceling each other or make crossrelation to the mounting walls
    3) acoustic canceling frequnces... material of the box, diameter of the bass reflex , length of that tube and also distance from
    a) back wall reflecting the main waves (if back) b) second reflecting waves (if in front) c) sideways in some cases to hard to explain here.
    Conclusion??? Nice project to spend time ... better subwoofer? NOT AT ALL !! WHAT HE ACHIVED ? THE SAME AS YOU PUT YOUR HAND IN FRONT OF A TWEETER AND LISTEN THE LOWEST FREQ POSIBLE

      What he really did here was make a port so excessively long that he changed the group delay of the setup so it sounds tighter. His port diameter is also much smaller. I'd bet he actually raised the tuning vs lowering it. It's performing more like an oversized sealed enclosure than a ported one.

    Another good idea is to swap the stock subwoofer driver with a better more efficient unit and perform a bass reflex port tuning make it longer to an extent and that's all in the original wooden cabinet. It would have been a far better experience.

    I use this same design in my car and I love it. It’s my favorite design for playing anything below 25Hz with just one subwoofer. It’s sort of like a T-line. The difference here is that my subwoofer is in a huge tube and the pvc inside it.
    Tube is king when it comes to rigidity. No bracing needed.
    I wish I could find somebody who can spiral my 4” PVC tube. It’s not easy without making a kink mess.

    So hearing the sound it’s probably worse than what it was in the stock box, way too long of a runner even tho it’s interesting to see, the size of the internal area or the compression area would be a good size without all the pipe in the way and plexiglass that thin flexes fairly easily but putting all this info together it probably hits in the lower end of the base spectrum like in one specific frequency extremely well and then above and below that one small frequency range sounds terrible. like a lack of control everywhere except in one range.

    • @MrWirelesscaller
      @MrWirelesscaller Před 2 lety +2

      Bose's "wave technology" is simply them using a 6th order bandpass sub design, one of the least accurate one note bass type of design (there is a reason why Bose isn't used in THX/DOLBY trademarked theaters, mix studios, or tours because they lack accuracy most pros actually know they are a joke). A long port doesn't guarantee tight and accurate bass either, in fact sealed (2nd order roll off) or transmission line designs (second order roll off) fit this category the best and instead of using a port (4th order roll off) a properly weighted passive radiator (4th order roll off) would sound much better when reaching the unloading of the tuning point. What a port does though is allow the driver's cone to manipulate a mass of air so that at a certain tuning point they can make a choice of output, depth, or a combo of both depending on what the goal is desired (for example you may tune the port to unload at 60hz in a car because you can benefit from cabin gain, while you'll lower the output and tune it to 40-20 hz to get the tactile sensation for home theater use).
      While I think the sub looked kickass I don't expect to have a smooth response and expect it to have a peak at the port tuned frequency and when pushed hard should also have some "chuffing/buzzing" because he didn't flare the port on both ends (if you notice on the original sub the port was flared and rifled, this is so when driver pushes/sucks the air back and forth it reduces turbulence while allowing the air mass to move smoother).

    • @limitlessluis
      @limitlessluis Před 2 lety +1

      @@MrWirelesscaller that’s an excellent explanation! I’ve been studying home theater and car audio since my teens!
      I agree a port might increase output at a certain frequency while producing distortion and turbulence at high volume.
      Sealed boxes produce the cleanest and most accurate sound at the expense of lower efficiency.
      I love bass and personally own a 1500-watt Definitive Technology home theatre subwoofer with two built-in bass radiators (woofers with no magnets) like the ones you mentioned. Bass is deep, thundering, and clean - impressive to say the least considering its compact volume of about 1.2 cubic feet.
      This acrylic sub does look great though, i think we all smile at the finished product.

    Realmente impresionante el sonido que produce el modelo que has creado pero... aguanta el acrílico la vibración?
    Yo diseñé uno con acrílico pero sin los tubos de PVC y sonaba muy bien (también la pegué con pegamento) pero se rompió y después hice una igual de acrílico pero le apliqué sellador en las uniones y aparte le metí tornillos y mira... chulada de trabajo (así decimos aquí en México) que a alguien le gustó el cajón y se lo vendí, después hice uno mejor que es el que trae puesto el coche y suena bien, tal vez no tanto como tu diseño mi estimado, mis más sinceras felicitaciones 🍾
    Un fuerte abrazo 🤗 y saludos a la distancia desde tierras mexicanas ☺️

    Для сабвуфера лучше деревянный корпус, + он должен быть на полу, + это специально задумано чтобы он вниз смотрел, для усиление баса

    • @St.Eg.
      @St.Eg. Před rokem

      В пол необязательно, по порт фазоинвертора нужно рассчитывать, предварительно рассчитав нужный обьем корпуса и определившись на нужныйй частотный диапазон. Необязательно выходить на резонансную частоту динамика, можно и немного ниже взять, можно и чутка повыше, в зависимости от аудиофильского предпочтения (жанра).
      Я бы сделал из фанеры, изнутри немного синтепона можно добавить, что я и сделал в своем бум-боксе с НЧ звеном на паре 5 дюймовых динамиках от сабвуферов с настольной аккустики.

      This really does not make any sense at all.
      The very distorted sound waves (by the tube spagetti) have to enter this tiny tube hole, travel through totally random corners in the tube and come out at the front.
      The resonance should be terrible. The sound will probably worse than without the tubing.

    Ladies, ladies...I just happen to have a degree in unnecessarily long, blue pvc pipe, speaker box porting from the very prestigious online University that rarely attended...I'm actually a doctor in the field now they say, no big deal, but enough about me. This, my small brained friends, is quite possibly the single greatest sounding DIY, unnecessarily long, blue PVC ported, acrylic box speaker ever made!! Of course to the untrained ear I'm sure it sounds worse than the speaker on a.1980s Texas Instruments Speak n Spell but to me and my highly trained "golden ear" if you will, this puts 99% of the high end audiophile mumbo-jumbo to shame! Thank you sir, this makes every penny spent on my higher education worth it!

    *Step four:* Cobble everything together and waste time not using the subwoofer you first bought

      Mas ficou horrível o som, não dianta vc encher de tubos dentro da caixa, vai só bagunçar a frequência que bate lá dentro e distorcer tudo, capaz de queimar o alto falante assim, uma caixa com volume correto pro sub, bem vedada e com duto normal já é a eficiência máxima
