I recently came across your “You Tube presentation” on the Dadar Parsi Colony neighborhood in Dadar (East), Mumbai. My compliments to you for a very well researched and insightful professional presentation. It helped me take a stroll down memory lane as I was born, and spent my formative years here. From what I remember, almost every street in Dadar Parsi Colony ended with a park. The streets were full of trees and greenery. The place used to come alive beautifully in different seasons. It may surprise many to know that The Dadar Parsi Colony was featured in “Architectural Digest (India Edition) Magazine, which is internationally considered as the ultimate authority in design.” We lived in Jam-e-Jamshed Road. I (and my brother) studied in The Dadar Parsi Youths Assembly High School. My sister studied in JB Vachha High School for Girls. My family relocated to USA after I completed my school education. I have fond memories of the Dadar Parsi Youth Assembly's Snack Centre located in Perviz Hall, Jam-e-Jamshed Road. The popular snacks sold there were Dhansak, Dar-Ni-Poris (similar to Maharashtrian puran poli), Malido (a fudgy sweet quite like the Bohri Malido), plump egg chutney, and lacy mutton cutlets. Perviz Hall was the social hub for the community members. For History buffs, Perviz Hall was named after the late daughter of Parsee Philanthropist Mr. Jehanbux Tarapore. The J. N. Petit Reading Room and Library situated in Jam-e-Jamshed Road was a meeting point for many residents. I also have very fond memories of Balodyan. Balodyan, the children's center started in the 1950s, founded by Dr. Vipin Gandhi (brother of Actress Dina Pathak, and Uncle of Supriya Pathak Kapoor and Ratna Pathak Shah). Besides thriving science and movie clubs, the center’s library had books, comics and magazines. Balodyan Center took the help of parents and teachers to teach sports, craft and cooking. They organized food and game melas, and encouraged art and theatre. My siblings and I recollect receiving Balodyan’ s monthly program circulars cyclostyled on the blank side of pages from issues of Soviet Land, a paper published in 13 languages. I owe my career in Medicine and Health Sciences in the United States largely due to the interests and influences in healthcare inculcated in me during my childhood days spent at this Center. Barring a few cosmopolitan venues such as the Sohrab Palamkote Hall (beautiful vintage hall where I recollect attending several weddings), the Mancherji Joshi Memorial Hall and the Dadar Parsee Colony Gymkhana, the rest were only for Parsi community use. It’s been almost four decades since my family relocated from Dadar Parsi Colony and India. I am pretty much sure with the passage of time things must have changed.
Thankyou Mr Iyer for your comment, it is evident that you loved the Dadar Parsi Colony, it is such a lovely area, I personally feel it is few of the best places to live in Mumbai. Dadar Parsi Colony should be declared an heritage site like 'Khotachi Wadi' in Girgaon (you can watch our video on Khotachi Wadi) Please do share the video with your friends if you are in touch with them. Take care !
Hello Nitin and Nanditaji, Really nice of u to tape this video. It made me very nostalgic. I went to JB Vachha high school in the 70’s. I was very lucky to be there in my growing days. Many of my friends lived in the colony. So we spent lot of time there. 5 gardens was hit spot during that time for young ones. In fact one of them sent me this video. I did notice that you missed showing our school…. J B Vachha High School. I visit this place when I visit Mumbai. My growing roots!!!!
Truly nostalgic! I grew up in Matunga as well & was looking for JB Vachha School which I graduated from in the mid sixties. Five gardens & Adenwala Road were home to me. As was the Irani hotel & Madras cafe at kings circle! Truly enjoyed watching your videos. Thanks so much! Will forward it to all my friends & specially to my brothers who went to Don Bosco School Thanks again 🙏
Awesome.... very good information given about the place in the running commentary & fantastic trip down memory lane... looking forward to your other video's....
Excellent job Nitin and Nandita, a superb narration with the unique idea of shooting on from a bicycle and walking which captured the details. Yes certainly, it was nostalgic, brought back many childhood memories. Thank you both for your extra ordinary efforts.
I lived in Dadar East Naigaum Cross Road. A paying guest accommodation . Flat owned by Parsi Aunty. Mrs Banu Kanga. A wonderful Landlady . She looked after us like her own Children. My Hubby n I were newly married couple in 1995. The place was just 250 sq feet . But so what. We were in Business n it was the best place to have. Close to Dadar Station. We used to go for walks to Dadar Five Gardens. There is also an Office of the *Shirdi Saibaba Sanstan* in one of the Parsi Buildings close by facing the main Road. I used to visit it every Thursday. I am still in touch with my Landlady n her hubby. Long time 1995 till date.
Great job done Nitin and Nandita. I see you around Wadala block many mornings. This route is my favourite to walk. Will look forward to your video about Wadala village.
An excellent job. Very impressive. A lot of your time and effort has been put into this. The background music was terrific. Adenwalla Road is where I grew up. Brought back tons of memories. Thank you very much Nitin and your.partner for such a memorable ride. Looking forward to more such happy joy rides with both of you. Take care and stay safe.
Thank you Nitin ji and Nandita ji 🙏 I grew up in Parsi colony and completed my schooling from DPYA in 1991 ☺️ My family has been living in Parsi colony since 1930s. We feel blessed to be a part of this wonderful community and stay grateful for a lifetime of greenery 🌿 & goodness 😇

Lovely and superb considering your first attempts.Relived our childhood days, that we were brought up in this locality.Keep it up and God bles you both.
Thank you for a nice trip down memory lane. However, I was most upset to see that you named my school wrong. It is the NJ Wadia infant school and the JB Vachha High School, named after lady Jehangir. It isn't the lady Cama school. Thank you for the effort anyway and good luck with your future videos.
Brought back memories during my Podar days 1992 to 97.. Walk down these lanes and to Five gardens which was a place for us to play cricket after college hours with friends.. Kaha gaye whoh din.. Thanks for refreshing those memorable days N &N 🙂
Well done. Relived the Parsi colony experience after 25 long years !! The landscapes and structures have changed so much cant recollect most of the places!! Ofcourse nandita you and me have found memories of the Hooper's club where we regularly practised as part of the podar college basketball team. Good work keep it up and do Matunga next. All the best.
