If you feel like you've been betrayed by family members don't fall into victim consciousness and instead try to use it as a spiritual practice by simply letting their unconscious behavior's make you more conscious. Forgive them and let the feelings of hurt go. Thanks Eckhart.🙏

Same here. When I was in the spiritual phase of perceiving becoming my higher self, I had to allow the lifelong programming of my parents go. I have gone through this and continue to, but I can see it as a blessing for my spiritual practice and progress. Waking thoughts are no different than meditative thoughts. We may simply observe them and allow them to pass by. When memories/thoughts of betrayal come up, I use them as a reminder to send unconditional LOVE to ALL, including those who have “betrayed me”. I spend time each day sending LOVE to all those who the ego would say do not “deserve it”, as unconditional LOVE has nothing to do with what someone deserves based upon the ego’s perception (and all perceptions that we know what someone deserves IS the ego).
There is an upside down perception in mainstream
western thought that loving those who are behaving atrociously will empower more terrible behavior, but the opposite is true. All parts of the ego must be observed without judgement in order to complete their journey and return home💜🙏😇

Forgiveness/letting go as a perception of choice that takes effort and involves suffering fades as we awaken. Eventually, we realize that letting go is our natural state and it literally takes no effort or thought. We are simply observing a process. It is our natural state of being.

lol so he blinked a lot and said the feeling of betrayal is likely just an interpretation - some might call that gaslighting 🤷‍♀️ I have trouble with how so many gurus tend to invalidate feelings. Like we’re just supposed to know our feelings are lying to us and transcend them, but really what’s happening for most people who would take advice like this- is emotional suppression and shame around the way they really feel deep down. That doesn’t actually lead to spiritual progress. We gotta feel it to heal it.

Richard Schwartz from IFS, which is an amazing shamanistic healing philosophy has said that some people who are really great at meditation & non-attachment struggle to heal & integrate their deepest trauma because they are so used to letting everything just go.
That was so interesting to me, that this level of mastery, which I think is beyond ordinary spitrtual bypassing which is so obviously about their discomfort with difficult truths & feelings, can also be a way of numbing out. Those of us who have been through narcissistic abuse and family scapegoating don’t need yet another person telling us it is just our interpretation!

@@helensid6670 Oh wow, what a good example of how self-states as ‘enlightened’ can create a kind of peace, that gives good outcomes while the trauma remains hidden. It is amazing how hard our protector parts work to keep that exiled deep pain from entering conscious awareness. When I first started working with IFS I played a game called spotting Sneaky Pete’s. Because so many of what I thought were my good parts, being flexible & endlessly forgiving of people who were acting out because I knew they were in pain…ended up being Pete’s a sneaking. They kept me connected to people who worked to keep me small & reactive, yet connected, as I was to my dysfunctional family in childhood.
What would get you out of these ‘enlightened’ states, did this part-created state end up causing its own shift, either through greater understanding or some kind of crash due to the hidden trauma? I keep thinking about that IFS idea that protectors don’t protect. They are designed to fail, to keep you working by creating problems & distractions to avoid the exiles.

The "betrayal" pain comes from our expectations that those close to us need to be/act/think/behave a certain way. Mostly, it comes from pivotal formative experiences in our lives where the affective care we needed was absent and from there stems the feeling of being abandoned, misunderstood or not cared for.
We feel hurt when we believe we haven't been loved the way we "should have been".
We want others to be more like us and to express love the way we do, and when it doesn't happen, we feel "betrayed".
And therefore we tend to want to demonstrate or to project onto others the way we think love "should look like".
The more we do this, the more we become blind to the myriad other forms of love that are always present in our lives.
As we go within and face the pain, it becomes apparent that what we are seeking for is our own way of expressing love. Our unencumbered self-expression.
We are seeking for own permission to express our loving nature in our own way, freely, uninhibited, uncensored.
Others' response to our loving expression or their own DIFFERENT ways of showing or suppressing their own lovingness no longer matters.
Having said this, things aren't always black and white... Sharing, expressing, showing love DOES matter, especially when parenting... It can save a lot of people from having to do the deep, painful inner work of healing from emotional neglect or domestic abuse...

"Argue with reality and you lose, but 100% of the time." B. Katie)
Reality, in the sense of what is really going on here and now, is kinder than our stressful thoughts about the past revolving around the trauma, keeping us in a prison of our own making, where we are miserable, sad, angry and revengeful.

The question is too brief to answer. Maybe the question is detailed but not presented here. My experience may help the questioner. I adored my family but they didn't have the ability to form loving bonds with me in return. Each done me wrong countless times. My error was following Christian advice to be forgiving and long-suffering. At the end, with only one of the narcissists living, I know that I should have left home as soon as I graduated from high school and ended contact entirely. I hadn't done that because I had hope that they would become loving. I advise anyone with indifferent, abusive family members not to give them opportunities to create more bad memories for you.

Well.. Indian philosophy has answer for this. Instead of having fond on family members only have love on them.
Fond- is a personal bond that creates a ego(self mind) which creates emotions and try to give happiness and hurt in cyclic way
Love- is a non personal bond on every living beings which eliminates the ego without hard way.
Have compassion on every living beings equal to ur family members. Its call jeevakarunayam(soul compassion ) in tamil.

Maybe it’s taken out of context, but it sounds toxic and not helpful. Someone hurt you by using you and abusing you… Abuse is not just an “interpretation”, it should be validated, acknowledged, and possibly let go in order to heal. Feeding once ego is another thing but when there is a valid betrayal and abuse, please don’t advise that you doubt yourself first.

This is on your youtube channel, Eckhart, so this is your message! It’s not good enough!
And your family did betray you, and they could not do anything else, because of their mental level. Even if they are evil and have no empathy, you can’t change them. And they move on as if nothing happened. So you have to forgive their behaviour as if they are children, not knowing better! It’s like a video game, and they play a different game, or they are the bad guys in your game with no understanding of doing wrong. They can move on as if nothing happened. You are stuck in trauma. I have just come to the understanding that forgiving them because they do not know what they do!! Lol.. is the only way. They don’t know, that is why they are not sad, they don’t feel bad about what they did, and nothing bad happens to them!!! You are the one stuck in this trauma and they don’t care. So!! Forgive and find your peace and find your people, with love in their hearts, and people that have an understanding of being kind towards others. This is a very tricky game to play!! 🙏❤️❤️❤️

Betrayal is of course hard to work on because there is no real understanding. However in the end you can always choose to create bad feelings because you have been betrayed. In the long run and often that only occurs when people are so fed up of thinking about the betrayal anymore, maybe then or earlier you have the choice to just accept it. You have the choice of dealing with the feeling of beeing betrayed for the rest of your life, or choose to accept it, or rather choose my way: try to form all that negative energy into something positive. Dont accept it but turn it into something good. Release all that negative energy that you build up and try to create something useful out of it, maybe help some people in need, that you would have never thought if if it wasnt befor this betrayal. Just dont try to let all this negative energy hit you, release it, turn it into something good, accept it.

I mean. At some level, there is a definition of family, and a person can behave in a way that is counter to that definition, without any prodding or sort of incident they are reacting to.
When a family member is malicious, do we allow them to exhert control, simply because they have misidentified us as a threat?
I dont think these are the same conditions under which the cross was accepted. At some point, there ARE life giving and life denying actions. We can't simply reframe those truths.
I worry when people hear "is that the full story," that they do not understand the full teaching. They do not understand that they are meant to take on their power to walk away, and instead think that reframing is more of a way of justifying continued self abandonment. We often believe enabling is kind, when we are doing it.
